how much better is Vanguard now really?

I stopped playing about 3 months after launch, came back just before server merge and the worst problem was low population...

how is the population now.. and is it worth another try... I still want to love it.

It all depends on what server you play on. Groups are so much easier to find on Seradon right now.  I play on Xeth and theres no lack of people on there either.  Seradon seems to always be busy though. Give it another go if you'd like, it really has improved.

Depends those that still enjoys the game thinks that it has improved, those that don't do not think it has.

But still want to love it? Don't play a game you don't like, you don't have to force yourself to enjoy something you don't.

PS-   I am a group player, being able to get a group for dungeons and hunting areas is the most important thing to me.

I tried it, in beta and at the release, and well i'm waiting for a little more polish, but time is near I think to give it another shot.

I played beta and then for about 4 months after release.  Then I quit and came back around the merge.  Playing happily since then.  I enjoy the game and am usually able to find groups on Xeth.  In a great great guild too and tend to find most groups with them.

As much as I like to encourage people to come back or start it up.  I am unable to give it a full blown recommend yet.  There are still some issues.  The current round of game update (#) is ongoing and doesn't seem likely to be finished until end of the year.  There are massive amounts of things being done within this update though and I am really hoping to see major improvements so I can really give the two thumbs up.

If you have played in the past and liked it, but it was just too buggy, then it may be time to come back.

If you played in the past and hated it, then you probably always will and don't bother.

If you have never played then I suggest waiting until the next game update is complete and give it shot then.  (unless you got nothing else to do then go for it, but don't say I didn't warn you)  Although you may be pleasantly surprised and love it right off.

I know a few actual new to the game players who are really having a great time.  So I guess you never know.

I've played it and cant recommend it.

I was never incredibly bothered by the bugs or poor performance.  Well except for the first month or so where it was a daily death caused by bugs.  That has gotten better though my Bard did die several times when running across chunk lines recently, there are still frustrations.

The biggest strike against Vanguard for me is the lack of content.  It's still weak and lacking.  They had some great ideas they were working on but since SOE has taken over none of them have made it into the game and they've cut back the Dev staff so much that I doubt they will ever make it into the game.

Raiding is more enforced then yesterday, less then tomorrow.

I am sure some players can enjoy it, but to me I rather WORK extra hours for free then play such a game.  End of any debate.  A game has to be a game, and raiding isn't a game at all.

Actually it has improved overall in stability though there is some lag. server merge really helped the game alot with grouping. Ive VG since release, stopped playing in may and started again in late august. between the may and august time frame the game dramatically improved in stability. some of the added content is great. and there are so many possibilities now, far more then were available early on. I believe they are smashing more bugs, we will see after next game updates which direction they plan to head.

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

Debated coming back for a while now myself, since being in beta.

Curious how crafting is, has it changed since release?

DURING beta i enjoyed it, but they changed it right before release and it went to crap.

    Cnuck,

I'm sorry, I don't recall trying the crafting system in the begining but I have been messing with it recently. I must be honest, it is a bit hard to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it by trial and error or just asking someone, ( I seem to find the Vanguard populous an extremely nice one ), the crafting is amazing! Best crafting system of any MMO IMHO. Well thought out and involved. I do find that alot of people do either one or the other. Either a harvester/gatherer or a crafter. But if you do both like I have (takes twice as long) you have an enormous feeling of accomplishment by crafting an entire set of armor all by yourself or whatever tickles your fancy.
