This game came out of no where on the MMORPG list, and is highly ranked.
I am just wondering what about it is so great? And would you suggest this game for a MMO vet? If so why.

Ive been playing mmos since before EQ1 and have to say that tabula rasa was a huge dissappointment. I was expecting something new and groundbreaking, but its just the same WoW style of questing with a hell of a lot more clicking (to fire your gun, which you will be automatically locking onto your target, no skill involved). Some of the skills are pretty cool but its all just so repetitive and boring. There is no character development or RP. Its just a lot of running around and clicking. Theres deeper combat in NexusTK, which is pretty sad.
honestly it sounds a lot like the NGE SWG, at least from what you just said
There is nothing innovative or groundbreaking here, its a wannabe manual aim style mmo, its just the fanbois who just started playing the game who are rating it so highly, when they get a little farther into the game and realize what a crapfest it is the rating will certainly drop.
No, it's nothing like NGE.
I'd look at some of the other threads in this forum, and see what people are saying. Anyone who claims there's no skill involved probably didn't make it past level 5.
And if the sticky targeting bothers you....you can turn it off.
Well, I wouldn't say it's like the NGE, but everyone has their own opinion. Here's my take on why some people seem to be enjoying themselves in TR:
1. It's the newest sci-fi game to come out. Many people who like the genre but haven't had anything fun since pre-CU SWG or AO are drawn to this game.
2. Is has FPS elements that make it different from other current MMOs. Sure, there is Planetside, but that's a different sort of monster all together. It doesn't exactly auto-lock all your targets, but it's not shot-accurate either.
3. It has a pretty good story line, the missions are pretty fun, the instances are rather interesting (though some have a few bugs and some are a bit confusing), and overall it's just something different.
Some people are obviously not going to like it because it's a sci-fi game. If you're not into that sort of thing, then I would not recommend playing TR. Ultimately it will depend on whether they continue to push significant updates/fixes and add enough additional future content to keep players happy...
Me and many others who criticize this game made it atleast to the level 30 mark in beta or are currently still playing it, I know people are anxious and over zealous to find a new entertaining MMO, but the high ratings are certainly inflated by premature judgement. To honestly claim there is skill in this MMO is pretty foolish, yes u can turn the sticky targeting off, but why would someone put themselves at a disadvantage in comparison to other people, it shouldnt even be there if it is a true manual aim style MMO. I would go into further detail but there have been numerous posts accurately criticizing the many shortcomings of this game.
Thanks for the input guys, Ill avoid this one for now and continue waiting for another MMO or the SWG pre CU SWGEM.
yeah i made it to level 15 before i quit. turning off sticky targeting would be stupid, because where you shoot a mob doesnt effect how much damage you do- like someone else in this thread said you would just be putting yourself at a disadvantage... its just not a good game..... on the US east server like last week or the week before one of the GMS was doing random sci-fi movie trivia over general chat claiming it was an 'event'. thats just sad, man.
i dont think this game has anything to do with an fps, nor does it remind me of halo in any way shape or form (no offense). its a third person shooter, if anything. and even then i dont think it can be called a 'shooter' persay because its like a dice roll everytime you shoot the gun. sure terrain and things factor in but provided you're in the correct place, you will do a certain amount of damage based on a variety of variables and a "dice roll" like countless other RPGs.
It's fun. and if for no other reason, nc soft removed time sinks from the game instead of finding ways of adding new and improved ones as so many mmo's these days do. This streamlining of game play, getting right into the action instead of waiting 60 lvs, brings back fun. They did a great job of making you feel as if you're a soldier right out of basic deploying out to the bush. The fog of war is there, it is thick, and it will carry you along with it. No it's not a deep game and only time will tell if i can play this for any period of time ( no success with other nc titles). But if you think about it, a soldiers life isn't deep, they don't sit around crafting , they train , they fight. So if nc can keep this pace up after players max the lvs it's gonna stay, if not... well.
I didn't beta this game, had no thoughs of buying it , it looked rather boring. but i though "what the heck, i havne't bought anything since lotr". so i put my money down and took it home, expecting another wasted 50 bucks. Well, next month i may be through with it, but from the jump it's a ball. only time will tell.
As for being deep like the rest of the mmos. nope , it's not and this may just be a good thing. This game is based around everyone being a soldier, and getting to the fight at an early lv. Not about how much bling you have and standing around showing it off.
You wanna fight , wanna get into the thick of it and not worry about down time and buffs, running for 30 mins to carry some lazy ass hobbits carrot to his bud 3 villages over. This may be for you. You want to get online and chat , craft pies, show off your latest + 99 piece of armor, you probably won't like it. And if i only play it for the free month, that still makes it a good buy, cause thats about two weeks longer than lotr lasted for me. ...... course i still have my AC account open, it's not that good ..... yet.
not to mention the fact that most single-player games cost around $50 for far less entertainment and potential for longevity. I bought Jericho, played through it in about 10 hours.
If I can get even one month out of a game, I feel I got a deal these days :P
The Trenches, and the cp defense/assaults. They are easily the funnest things in any mmo I've played.
My favourite MMOs are Anarchy Online, pre-NGE SWG, EVE and EQ2. The former 3 for their complexity, the latter for it's polish and fun raids that require skill rather than high playtime.
TR does not improve on those things that made AO, SWG and EVE good. These things were depth and breadth of the skill and itemization systems and huge immersive worlds. TR is not as complex on the skill system, but still better than most MMOs - allowing for unique specs and personality. TR's itemization is very interesting with everyone needing multiple weapons and weapon upgrading providing a endless source of tweaking. TR's world is huge and probably the most immersive i've seen without massive chunks of emptiness. There is plenty of space to make exploring fun and the NPC battles throughout the world make it more alive than any game. But like I said, TR doesn't really improve on anything except the NPC immersion bit.
What it DOES improve on is where these aforementioned games reallly lacked (except EVE maybe) - the combat. The combat is fast, exhilirating and thought-provoking. Or rather, if you want to mow down easy mobs, you can do it without much thought, but if you want to take something tougher, you very much need to make strategic decisions. These become more and more important as you get deeper into the game and more options open up to you.
Anyhow. I think the game is excellent. It's not the second coming of SWG, but nothing will be.
