The ultimate in Gate Camping

if thers one, or in the case of Earth two (always thought that was pretty dumb considering there is only one in Atlantis), gate on each world won' t this just turn into EvE style gate camping x100?

Nice try, but I don't think theres any information on PVP in SGW or if its even going to have any.

Considering that all the important gates should be guarded anyway, I don't think camping will be a problem there. For the smaller gates all across the galaxies, it would fit the story of Stargate of they occationaly would be guarded. It surely could be annoying, but if you play the game for the story, it would in my opinion just make the game more interesting, to never know what to find on the other side :)

I'm not sure about PvP.. but i know the developers discussed briefly about the concerns of over-crowding around the gates. They didn't want to have a player have to dial out of the gate every time because if each player had to do so in a very populated area, it would take the last guy in line a week to get to his destination.

Now i know thats no help to the PvP question, but odds are.. if its all-out anywhere PvP like WoW has in some places.. then the odds say the developers will do something to combat this. maybe make gate zones neutral territory, or invulnerability for the first thirty seconds/minute you're through the gate. Or maybe just putting gates in the heart of allied territory, unless of course you go on a distant mission to a new quest-based play area.. then those could be instanced. Who knows, we'll just have to wait.

in wow when u walk through the dark portal ur not eligable to pvp there so theres not camping

  • bluebalzzbluebalzz Member Posts: 24

Sorry if people camp the gates and u come in to a gate by ur self well ur bound to be got but if factions learn to hold a gate and certian alliences have thier npc guards at the MAIN gates like in  the show that si nto a concern that is more reality of the story line

Now wonder how many possible gates there are gonna be?

and think about SG-1 they dont come to a camped gate every single time they step through but some times they come across agressive negitioations

    But they had MALPS... :)

I have to agree that will make the story line just that much better... IF they have PVP...

Unless everyone decides to join hands and sing songs of peace there better be PvP. If we can't kill enemy factions then the story won't feel the same.

Except in the show it was

Game campers = minimal forces equipped with fairly outdated technology

Gate arrivals = Spiritual-beings equipped with uber fire-power and massive ships on the galactic cutting edge.

Actually chances are if you think of it there  might not be a chance for gate camping in this game  perhaps the devs might put instances in the game where the area around the gate is safe *unless if its scripted* .. or perhaps make it so that you have like a minute of safty when you exit the gate. unless of course if its scripted then well the NPC's would be doing the camping

Then of course you can always think what happens if there are certain servers where PVP will not be allowed *such as PvE then perhaps Gate camping will not occur ..

not really,  what I just said was that there could be instances that would stop gate camping with instances

My guess is you will have the option to send malps through and possibly the recon drone (aircraft) as well.

Remember:  SG1 never went through a gate without knowing what was on the other side of it.  They ALWAYS sent a malp first :)

Oh:  And Earth never really had TWO gates... it only ever had 1.  The gate found in antarctica was the ancient's gate from long before the gua'ould (sp?) took over the planet.  the one found in Egypt was flown to Earth by the Gua'ould (sp again?)...  Both gates couldn't be active at the same time.  One was the master the other was just sorta 'there'.  It could dial out but any dial in's always wound up at Cheyenne Mtn at the 'master' gate.

Instances would rid the problem of gate camping for some of the planets .. cause otherwise who wants to get ganged when only trying to do a level 5 quest.. not many I would say..

Yeh, gate camping would be solved by the use of MALPs. Being able to see what's on the other side before stepping in. It would make sense that you are imediately attacked if you step through to the other side though and not have a 'you can't shoot me' timer.

I'm sure we'll get some sort of MALP. Heck, even McKay made a MALP on a stick.

dude we barely know anything about the game >< but i doubt there will be gate camping

Taking the Matrix Online (MxO) as an example, its possible to avoid the gate camping problem quite easily. In MxO, travelling via the hardline network (they look like phone booths) resets your PvP flag. You arrive and unless you flag yourself, you're safe.

On the "Vector-Hostile" server, every player level 16 and higher is PvP flagged by default, so the newer folks (lvl 1-15) dont automatically get slaughtered the moment they emerge from a hardline.

There's no eliminating the Zerg though. Sometimes griefers roam in packs and wait at hardlines. People have learned though: jack into the Matrix in remote locations if you're a mid-level player.

So, my guess is that SGW will adopt a set of fairly basic rules to keep the PvP / camping to a minimum. They mentioned battlegrounds as one. Of course, if you choose to play on the PvP FFA server, all bets are off!!

I think there should be no non-pvp in this MMO. ANYWHERE. If you step through a gate and get shot up from an ambush, it's your own stupid fault. If your MALP gets shot up when you send it through or you don't send one at all. You deserve the ambush.

What I expect from this MMO though is when I open the wormhole and there is an enemy on the otherside is when I shoot into the portal on my end, the projectiles will come out and hit the enemy on the other side.

We dont even know the mechanics of the game yet, so lets keep speculation on gate camping too a minimum.
