Has this game had a closed beta yet?
Yes, closed beta has been running for a good while. Not sure exactly how long. Game is scheduled for a release end of january, so not much longer though.

Closed beta's been running for a good 2+ years now (started sometime in 2005). The game's gone through some major changes since it started, from what I've heard.
OMG! I'm so in....I'm going to camp that page. I really hope they open it up for non subscribers some time as well.

They did open it up to none-subscribers last time, after few days.
I wonder if Rick or Misha would let us know if previous stress test keys will still work or new ones are needed for this test.
It really burns me up that the owners and Developers would even consider giving commercial gain to any company when it comes to the testing of this game, usually not only is the game being tested by the players for bugs, problems, or load problems... But the game is being evaluated by the players for playability. A lot of the times I play betas for games yes, I am checking for problems with the game world, but also i am observing the game to see if I want to actually purchase the retail copy and invest monthly installments.
I have never purchased a game that I was never able to play for free, and I refuse to pay for a file service like fileplanet to be able to access such beta rights. And I am more than certain that i am not by any means the only gamer that has the same sentiments .
Its easy, hosting a file as big as a PC game costs alot of money, give Fileplanet some beta keys and they'll host your file for free, they get subscribers and you get testers...win-win
You're telling me that the mere hosting of a game couldn't turn up tons of ad revenue from the website hosting it? You're telling me that it wouldn't be possible for them to get it hosted with filefront or some other free file host? You're saying that my point was completely invalid and made no sense?
Maybe the banwidth and space cost for hosting something like PotBS would be great, but the monetary gains for hosting it for free I believe could be greater due to the fact that it would reach a larger playerbase and generate more website hits which would translate into more ad money.
But I will give the people in-charge of this move some credit, they probably have gone over the same possibilities as I have, and done more research on the benifits and possible outcomes for each scenario, but I am still fervent in my believe that giving the people who want to try the game before investing money into any thing would be the best way to go.
This might be a good time to subscribe to fileplanet, with AOC, WAR, and TCOS coming out soon, their will be lots of betas to play
Fileplanet lives on the fact that it is easier/faster to download files for subscribers. Would they stop the acces to nonsubscribers I think fileplanet would not have any subscribers at all in the end. It is some kind of selfpromoting.
And if they would not have any files to download then there would not be anything to subscribe for. This campaign is in favour for fileplanet so could actually think that they pay FLS to be able to do this. But I can be badly mistaken here.
Oh, I have just recently this last half year been used to fileplanet before I have constantly avoided files put there for download. But as time goes one see that less and less things are made avaible to download from the maker (so to speak) of the file as I can believe that hosting at fileplanet is cheaper than do it themself. So I have been forced to be used to use fileplanet.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Some game companies offer patches and other client downloads through torrents, AH-HA!!! P2P resources like this could be a cost effective alternative to the bandwidth problems.
Despite how much I'd love to play, paying 5 bucks for two days of lag isn't worth it.
I could spend it on other luxuries...................like cake.
-------------------------
Its currently still closed to non-subscribers as of this Wednesday morning but... if I recall the first stress test, it played out something like this:
1) Stress test announced on Monday morning and requiring fileplanet subscription
2) Stress test opened to non-subscribers wednesday night
3) Servers opened Thursday
4) Servers stayed open until Sunday
Numbers 1,3 and 4 appear to be the same this time around so.... maybe we will see a change of things tonight or early tomorrow in regards to signups. If they are consistant.

If you played in the previous stress test, do you still need to redownload the client if you still have it installed on your computer? Which means it'll just download and update for this stress test, if its a different beta build of course, which i hope!
So there is definately a new client for this stress test. The old client should autopatch to the new version (about a 1.5Gig download) or you can pull down the new client from FilePlanet (about 4.5G) . The difference is that you can get the FP client *now* and can't patch until the keys go live. I'd get the new client before going to bed from FP, since a *lot* of people will be hitting the Sony servers and the download speed from there will probably not be as fast.

Erhm...I'm downloading from FP now, and it has around 20 hours remaining Are you sure the Sony servers will be even worse?

Depends on wether Smed feeds the Hamsters this weekend or not, I heard he might be renting them out to Richard Gere.

I don't think it hurts to say how long it has been in closed beta. It started for me in early 2006. ^_^ I gave up my closed beta spot to an online friend in early 2007. He was just dyingt to get in on beta. So I let him have my beta account.
Was just wondering how anyone in Oceania or Asia download the client before the weekend is over? Oh yes I forgot, we don't!

Has anyone been able to get in-game yet? The 2nd stress test started 2 hours ago, but I still can't register my Beta-Key.

Don't think it has started. 3pm PST / 6pm EST. Still have a few hours before it starts.
Oh ok. I'm in GMT+1 and suck at math.
What time is it in PST/EST right now?
[b}Wow! Much gold. So amaze!
It is just after 9am EST / 6am PST.
A small, very limited, closed beta started in December 2005. It's expanded into a large closed beta over the past two years.
