I am returning to my original EQ2 character from launch. He has been sitting in limbo for about 3 years.
A Ranger.
Problem is, I can't seem to fight anything with this guy. Bow shots work once until they are on top of me and my melee abilities are pitiful. In short, I cannot for the life of me remember how to fight with this guy. Are there any good guides or sites that you all know of that can help me get him set up so I am not losing so frequently?
At this point I am really wishing I could respec to wizard

After that lengh of time wawy the simple thing would be to roll a new toon the games all but changed from your time and doing a toon will give you chance to learn the game over.
Yeah I'm fearing it may come to that, however this guy has all my vet rewards (pre-orders from original EQ2, etc). I wish we could move those to other characters.

1-time vet rewards you already used would be missed
when I came back 3 months ago,
I deleted my 1st char that had pre-order rewards and i wasnt happy about doing it, but it was easier to make a new character and get the instant benefits of earning AA at level 10+
on bright side, your account being 3 years old should have some perks.

BaronJuJu you have discovered that Rangers aren't really melee'ers but they do have some good points (which they generally share with other Scouts).
First, Rangers are about the best sneakers (invising), they track (which can save you a lot of time) and they move fast even without mounts. If you like roleplaying they have a lot of role models such as several Tolkein characters, Robin Hood, etc..
Here is my 2 cents guide for playing a Ranger and surviving (more or less). (Some of this is probably obvious but I will repeat it anyway.)
A Ranger survives by killing it's prey as fast as possible and minimizing melee. It just can't sustain extended melee combat.
These are the main things you should be looking at to improve your hunting. Ranger is a fairly complicated class to play but I think they are a lot of fun and have good graphics. Some of the challenges make them more interesting and enjoyable to me. They perhaps aren't the greatest in groups although they are good at initiating attacks and the tracking ability can help the group a lot. Also they can disarm traps.
Thanks for the help and suggestions. I tweaked a few things (AA's, skills) and he seems to be doing a little better. Its going to take some time getting used to him again.
Now its just waiting for that RoK to finish downloading and I will be set.
