I am going to buy a new computer after the holiday season is over. I hear people talk about problems with Windows Vista, but... what are the issues? Are they just driver problems? Should I stick with 2000?
Any insite on this would be helpful.

Runs fine for me on Vista, I had trouble with WoW on vista, though, it had weird hitching problems once I got my new computer with Vista, but not with EQ2 : )
Runs fine for me too under Vista.
I am running it on vista x64 with no problems
I wonder why people are saying this then? At least i know that these issues are not the majority of Vista users. I would guess it is mainly update issues if it is not the majority of people. Thanks for the responses everyone.

I had problems running the updater on Vista. I solved this by running the updater on XP and then copying the diff of the EQ2 Folder to the Vista machine. Since this is about 4 month ago it might have been fixed yet.
I built a computer with Vista 64 shortly after it came out and yes there were some issues with stable graphics drivers. This sometimes caused problems with graphics intensive games like EQ2. However I believe the graphics drivers have pretty much caught-up with Vista (and directX 10) and I don't think there will be many problems if you are using current divers. I have absolutely no problems running EQ2 on a Vista 64 machine.
Did any of you notice that vista consumes alot of your RAM while playing eq2 or doing anything else for that matter? I only have a gig and can run it with mostly all settings on high but i was considering buying 2 more gigs.
eq2 needs a lot ram if you run it on higher visual settings. even under xp 2gb ram are nice to have with eq2.
vista needs more resources with nearly everything so especially if you are running 64bit vista i would recommend more than 2gb. for 32 bit vista i think the same meory limitation applies like for xp so you can only use 3gb with it.
Only problem I have is the up-dater. Starts fine then cancels by it's self. Am running it under xp comatability and as admin but still have that problem. Other than that, running game at max with no lag or anything
GO FOR IT
How much RAM do you have lucky?
4g of ram here
Vista does utilize Ram although that's partly because it will load a lot of the OS and appications into RAM to speed-up things. I forgot to mention one important thing..... I don't run the gadget thing that comes with vista. I find it to be somewhat of a useless toy and I think it might have conflicted with EQ2 sometimes when it was downloading new data. To me I don't have a computer to stare at the opening main screen... I have it to run applications so I don't really need the gadgets. It is easy to disable.
please tell me how disable the gadgets lol if it stops the up-date cancelling I'll try anything

Control Panel>>Appearence and Personalization>>Windows Sidebar properties>>>
Un check "Start Sidebar when Windows starts">>>> "Apply" or "OK"
That's what I have, too. I haven't really had any problems running under Vista on the very high setting. There's a few framerate issues here and there, but nothing too bad.
Just another thought.... for a while I thought the automatic update of my virus definitions was conflicting with EQ2. I switched it to update at boot-up only but have since switched-it back and haven't had any conflicts. I use NOD-32 (for the 64 also) because I think it is fairly unobtrusive compared to other anti-virus products. I'm just mentioning this because it is possible that another program (besides the gadget bar) might be conflicting as it downloads data. Eventually, and I think by now, Vista and the 3rd party utilities should have these issues sorted-out, particulary for the 32 bit Vista, but it is worth consideration.
During my downloading of the patch yesterday (Tuesday) I had a couple disconnects from the patch server but all I did was click on a button in my screen and the downloading continued. I think this was mainly because of the busy server and not my system. I had no trouble downloading Kunark. In fact I wasn't going to download Kunark yesterday but when I realized everything seemed to be going smooth I went ahead and did it.
