looking for a crafting game

JaldrenJaldren Member UncommonPosts: 363

looking for a mmorpg (not mmog) thats very craft or political oriented

something like "tale in the desert", but with more players (that game is quite dead)

matters not if its 2d or 3d (obviously better in 3d)

its a must that its not a fighting game, im tired of grinding, the max hunting that ill do is kill a deer or 2 to get pelts or bones, but not like goonzu, that you spend all day in a cave hunting pigs to get seeds (illogical i know)

so... any ideas?

ah, must have a complex crafting system and an economy run by players

Until that last part you had a selection but if you want it complex and run by players AND work and have a point within the game, I suggest you join the que as emensly long and distinguished as my johnson.

    I admit it I'm a cyninc....and modest.

I got a game you may like, its called Ashen Empires. Its a windowed MMORPG and its hardly any MB at all. I haven't completely explored it yet but so far I know you can be a warrior, mage, archer, blacksmith, leatherworker, farmer, miner, and many more. And the awesome thing is you LEVEL from doing any of the jobs in the game. So one day I may feel like farming so i just do that all day and still level, and the next you can be a warrior. I hope you enjoy!

eve is not slow, but frozen

and in what mind enters that you gain skills waiting and not grinding or crafting? its a game with nice gfx, a HUGE universe but its for casuals

i remeber my old times in SWG (obviously before the CU) as the best tailor in the server, making 50 million credits a week and selling them for 300€ (that way i didnt had to work to live), playing even 20 or 30 hours non-stop

in eve, if you login once every or 2 day to see if your skills have leved up, its too stressing for me

    thanks for the try tho

oh and dylannn, i played some years ago AE, but im re-downloading it again to check the new features

    any other suggestion?

Nope, thats all I can think of unless you want to try RuneScape. Oh and they have really updated it since the last time you played so im pretty sure you'll enjoy it

id say you took the wrong aproach on eve.

But well, its currently the only game that features BOTH great politics AND extensive crafting.

4 years playing in drachenfels, loved charming demons while i hit them with my pets

and eve has a quite crappy crafting system (get blueprint, gather some asteroids and mix everything in a factory)

still looking for the best crafting game...

now i remember why i was making my own mmorpg... someone remembers Terra de Caligo? well, its mine

I just wanted to clarify something, gaining skills in EVE is only means to the end. Maybe I am just confused what you are looking for, is it ability to simply max our your crafting skills or make insane amount of money by playing the market.

If you want to simply gain skills, you are right EVE is definnately wrong game. If you want to make money skills are only temporary pain that one have to endure on the path to greatness.

Just one last thing, EVE can be for casuals if player chooses that to be so. However I see people who play nearly 16 hours a day and complain that they need more time. The amount of time you will spend in game are only defined by objectives that you set.

    not one nor the other

    skills arent that important

    mastering the market either

what im looking for is a complex crafting system, somehing like SWG, VG or ryzom, with lots of different resources and qualities

algo whats important is that the game is popular... whats the meaning of being the best in making sword if there are only 5 players in the server?

A game with extensive crafting? Well I'd think Roma Victor is the game with crafting system like that but unfortuneatly at this point there is no one to sell too. That and unless you get multiple people to do help you than it could take a LONG time.

hmmmm maybe you could get more ppl to play a tale in the desert, or whatever its called, we could really need more ppl in it. other than that there arent very many good options. wait now that i think of it Eternal Lands has a pretty good crafting system, and you dont really have to fight if you dont want to.

Only other suggestion I could possibly offer is Horizons.  The game was just bought my a new company like a month or 2 ago, and they have been updating and fixing things and starting to make the game a bit more lively.  Complex crafting is the center of this game.  19 different crafting schools, all can go to 100, some as simple as collect ore and make bars, to something as complex to needing bars, sand bricks, clay, water and sand to make.  It as far as I know still have the 14 day trial, and has a 9.95 option for payment if you don't want to own a house.  If you do want to own a plot, which can have houses, silos, and other cool things, it is 14.95 a month like the rest of the MMO's on the market.  There is also adventuring as well if you want to take a break from crafting one day to go slay something.  26 classes if I remember correctly.   Otherwise, your out of options I think, because sadly most devs think crafting isn't worth making a big deal about as the adventure.  Oh well.  Maybe one day someone will learn.

played some time ago, i returned a week ago but simply couldnt stand the BAD graphics and lags

  • elvenangelelvenangel Member Posts: 2,205

Have you tried LOTR Online?  They have a really extensive crafting system, you could basically never level up and just remain a crafter if I remember correctly.  You'll have to ask someone who actually plays it now.  There wasn't to much crafting going on at the time I was in beta.   But I remember that once you got to a certain level you could spend your time working as a farmer, miner, smithy, etc etc its kinda elaborate you have to train in sub fields to get certain job types n such.

There just aren't to many games with 'pure' crafting classes they always mix in the adventuring part too.  EQ2 lets you be just a crafter with crafters having their OWN levels.  But if you want to gather materials you do have to level up adventuring just so you wont' get killed while out in some areas looking for rare materials.   Most really cool recipes are found out in the world and you can easily buy them off the AH / Broker.   I can't tell you how extensive the system is anymore like whether or not the crafter class trees branch off anymore since they've done a change since I last played.   You DO how ever have spend the first 5 to 10 levels fighting though in order to get the city to trust you before you can happily craft (otherwise you can never leave the 'newbie' parts of the city).

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Well it seems there isn't many options.  SWG has a crafting tree where you don't need to fight, but eh, SWG has never been the same since the NGE crap.  Uh, Jumpgate is got a interesting crafting system, though you really aren't crafting anything.  You are moving materials around so the stations will produce what is needed.  You probably won't like it much though, as there is fighting required, and best played with a joystick.  Umm, Ryzom is dead, so that is a no go, ummm, City of Heroes is got a small type of crafting.  Drops from monsters allow you to create enchantments and such.  That is about all I think.  If none of these fit what you want, then I guess your stuck like most of us are.  I too am really looking for something different, where crafting is a big part of the game.

Edit:  I forgot.  What about FFXI.  It is got a really big crafting system in there.  Now granted, there is chances for failure, and it does take a bit to get going, gil wise, but it is crafting, and it is a stable and well accomplished system.  Just thought if it after I hit post message. :P

    oook, my turn

lotro: im already playing since several months, the problem is that you need a high lvl char to get the resources or waste all your cash in the AH, so no real crafting

eq2: same as lotro (been there a year or so)

swg: completely out of my lists since the CU

jumpgate: crappy gfx and no pure crafting classes

ffxi: one of the worst crafting ive seen, since you need to have a printed list of all the recipes

looking for something like wurm but with more players and quests and such...
