I will make this thread on both VG and EQ2 sections to help me make my decision but basically... My main mmo experience comes from Runescape, SWG and WoW. I'm getting bored of WoW and looking for some which reminds me of my rs/swg days.. where I wasn't forced into combat and could happily spend my time crafting and creating my own shop to make money out of... nothing beats having a bot setup in corolag and spamming the wp to my shop.. it was awesome!
Anyway, which one would you recommend with the following priorities in mind:
First: Intricate and enjoyable crafting system where I can focus almost purely on this for enjoyment. Being able to make my own shop and start my own ingame business would be a benefit.
Second: Has fairly healthy European server/s ... basically, i don't want the european server to dead and be fairly popular and active.
Third: A rich vibrant world which takes you breath away.. basically I loved this about WoW.. the world was so well created and I still remember the first time i went into stormwind and saw the big statues.. FANTASTIC!
Any advice would be appreciated.

On all three counts Vanguard if your computer can handle it. Just don't choose PvP server and you're fine with server population.
i have played both games a lot friend and it really depends on what pace you are looking for.
EQ2 is the more polished game as VG is still being updated and having things added. VG is a huge world and there is lots to do. the crafting in VG is the best i have experienced to date. the popluation is getting better all the time in VG where EQ2 already has a solid user base. VG needs a decent rig to run though and you may have problems running on an older rig.
Both games are excelent games in there own right and i would suggest getting a station pass and trying both if you could get hold of the disks cheap enough
Hope you find one to your liking
I like WoW’s level design a lot too.
Vanguard's world is much more rich and vibrant than EQ2 IMO. The lay of the land is more realistic while EQ2 always made me feel that the zones were thrown together by a programmer and not an artist. I was stumbling around a new zone in Vanguard in awe this morning. The resolution and polygons and realism blows anything else I have ever seen away. You do need a top of the line computer to enjoy the highest graphical settings though.
I second Zodan. Vanguard all the way.
I wouldn't have said this a few months ago...but I'll have to second the vanguard option I think.
Their crafting is better, it looks better overall. Dunno about european population though, have to ask someone who plays it for that.
D.
1) Vanguard is in my opinion a winner. Everquest 2 crafting is more like a casting bar that you sit and watch, whereas in VG you basically have to click things in order to do something.
The shops are represented by the brokers all over the world. They don't work like a regular auction houses. When you put an item on broker it stays forever there until someone buys it or you take it off. There is no bidding, no time limits.
2) Halgar is the only european server and it's pretty populated. A bit less than the rest, but it's not a problem to find a group.
3) The basic difference between EQ2 and VG is in the world I believe. Whereas in EQ2 I felt like a bit in a prison, limited by the surrounding unpassable hills where each zone has a few exits that lead to another zone, VG is basically limitless. It's an open world. Yes on the other hand, it is not as rich as EQ2, because it's huge so you won't see NPC's at every corner giving you a quest.
REALITY CHECK
Although I am not playing either at the moment, I'd give VG a slight edge. EQ2 crafting is a royal pain IMO, while VG is "okay". Gathering mats and crafting in EQ2 is just plain annoying after the ten thousandth time. VG carries a little better on the gameplay. EQ2 pretty much forces your crafting character to level adventure levels right along, or even ahead, of your crafting level to be able to easily gather the mats. VG is slightly more forgiving, but you still need levels. Either way, if you are a player who is big into crafting, you also know how to get through the pains of lower level crafting, which you will find in VG. The thing about EQ2 is that the population is almost solely in the high levels and there is generally tons of competition for crafted goods. VG is a bit more spotty although more and more crafters are entering the game new and as alts.
Anyhow, VG gets the nod IMO if your computer can handle it. I know absolutely nothing about the Euro server though.
Crafting is far better in Vanguard.
The servers may not be as full as EQ2 yet, but i am sure that they will be soon, once a trail is released.
The world of Vanguard is far better than EQ2, and imo better than WoW.
VG all the way. Still has it's little quirks, but the over all grandeur of the sweeping vistas with lots to see and do - you can't go wrong.
In the Vanguard forum, you're obviously going to get bias toward Vanguard, same in the EQ2 forum toward EQ2. Personally, I will say this. Vanguard looks incredible. It absolutely demolishes any other MMO out right now when it comes to graphics/world size. You can wander around for hours and never see the same thing twice.
EQ2... I bought it, I tried it, I made it to level 5, and I wanted to strangle myself out of sheer unadulterated boredom. I was on what people said was the most populated server, Antonia Bayle, and I saw TWO... TWO other people during my entire time in game. The game may very well pick up at later levels, but damned if it wasn't the most boring and unappealing beginning to a game I've ever played. Coming from a WoW player, if you think the WoW graphics and world are impressive, you are going to be awed by Vanguard. EQ2 doesn't come close.
Crafting is fun and useful. If you level your adventuring and crafting spheres at the same rate, you can actually make solid gear for your level, this is the first game I've seen where that's the case. Yes, it's still a grind, but at least it's a grind that's more geared toward the crafting process itself than camping Unique Mob #732 for that last material required for the Uber Doomblade. You can level crafting without ever having to harvest your own resources, which is a big plus for me.
The game has bugs and performance issues, yes, but really... they aren't all THAT bad. Some things are annoying, like getting stuck. If you have an older computer, you're going to be out of luck with this game, and should probably pick up EQ2. If you have anything like a decent computer, in my opinion, Vanguard wins hands down.

For your criteria, I say VG, even though I enjoy EQ2 much more
I've play both and personally much prefer Vanguard. And if you want a game that has done crafting well, it's definitely Vanguard. No personalized shops yet though, you'll need to put your wares on the continent brokers.
