Hey guys,
I have just returned to LOTRO after a big big break and decided to role on a different server,
I re-rolled on Evernight,
The starter area instance in Archet was fine had onver 12 people p[laying,
Now im in the shire, I have yet to see more than 2 people, When im running around questing i see no one, And not even anyone speaking on the OOC channel??
Now have i picked the wron server or has this game died down? As i have been debating on either playing this or EQ 2,Or does anyone know of a higher pop server??

I have heard that Brandywine is a very busy server although I never have played there. I enjoy the laid-back and mature population of Gladden even though at times, more so lately, it can be hard to finish quests or deeds in certain areas during peek times.
I would check out the official LOTRO forum and try to get a feel for the right server to play.
I can tell you this, just by the posts in Advise I have been seeing of late, there is a good bit of new players coming in every day. I have also seen that many older players that have left are returning to check out the new content, many are making a fresh start as you are. I take all of that as some pretty good signs.
I believe that LOTRO is increasing its subscribers at a steady trickle, rather than a large single wave. In todays market with so many choices, I think that will likely be the norm from here on out

seriously dude, you people like you really annoy me, i am part of the evernight community and there are absolutely loads of people whereever you go, you must have a really crap system or something and it lags whereever you go + europe servers are apparently more popular than the US ones and Evernight is apparently the most popular, so get your facts right and stop trying to make posts that have no meaning lol

My theory is with the fall TV season, a lot of people have cut back their play time. I used to play every night for about 3 hours, but now I probably play every other night for maybe only an hour or two since I'm watching the new TV shows. Of course that might change soon with the Writer's Guild strike once the networks start airing repeats.
Also, the Shire will probably feel like the least populated starter area since it's the largest and has a huge amount of quests for that level range.
Yesterday saw a new EQ and EQ2 expansion. Alot of people who may play more then one MMO will be spending some time with the new expansions.

Youll find the shire is a lot more empty than the other starter areas,especially the man and elf,as most people play as those 2 races.
The shire is always empty i find unless the festivals are on,which is sad as its by far the best of the 4 starter zones.The elf one is tiny and is pretty much stuffed on the bottom of the dwarven area.
The only place that you can usually find lots of people shire-wise is michel delving,as it has an auction house,swift travel and a superior oven.
Try levelling in ered luin or around the bree fields area, even if you want to play as a hobbit,as youll be hard pressed to find groups down in the shire.
Brandywine is a tad sluggish but by no means empty. Albeit I prefer Landroval. Its overflow capactiy most of the time
Oh it gets really bad towards endgame...you'll see like 4-5 people in a high level zone at one time

To the OP:
If you want a truer test of the status of a servers population for the time periods that you will be playing, then visit Bree. If Bree is a ghost-town; then yeah, perhaps that server is light on the population side. Probably best to check out a couple other servers if you are looking for a bustling population.
To OP: I play on an American server that's not supposed to be all that popular, and I play strange hours. Most of the zones that I hang out in have plenty of players to get together a PuG whether I'm farting around on an alt in a mid level zone or in a high level zone on my main. As others have said, it's usually "just right." The only time things get crowded is on the weekends.
That said, the starter areas split the low level player base between 4 areas. This is compounded by the fact that you zoom through those areas pretty quickly. At higher levels you usually get funneled through one or two areas so you see more players.
The shire is also the least popular starting zone becasue hobbits aren't all that popular. Which is sad, becuase it's the best starter zone in the game imo. Really charming if you are any kind of fan of the books. Re-read the first few chapters of the Lord of the RIngs (the ones that deal with the shire) and it will really pop.
Once you get to the Breelands you'll see more players. If you start a different race you'll also probably see more players (men especially).
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
I play both lotro and wow european servers and i must say that to my surprise i see loads of newbies in both games. Conclusion: good games will continue to gain interest, bad ones will die.
