I should preface this post by saying this. I have in no way shape or form been following the development of this game. I hang out on this site at work (Like a lot of other people here) and unless you are blind you can't be oblivious to this game. I had never been interested in it. A few days ago I was REALLY bored at work towards the end of the day so I decided to look at the games main page.
The number one thing that makes me decide if I am going to play a game or not is the classes. At this point I still had no intention of playing the game but I decided to take a look at the classes to see what they had come up with. This is when I started to get interested. The first class a looked at was the witch hunter. I had one of those "breath of fresh air moments" It was great to see something that was the standard bread and butter MMO classes. After the witch hunter I looked at the swordmaster. While some will say "This is just a standard warrior" for me I just got a different feeling when reading the class bio and looking at the pictures. I liken the class a bit more to a samurai from FFXI.
After checking out some of the other classes I started reading a bit more on the game, espically PvP. I also need to preface this next part by saying something else. Up until the point I started playing WoW (really WoW BG's at lvl 60) I thought PvP was the devil. My perception of PvP up until that point was that PvP was nothing but high lvl's ganking low lvl's and groups of high lvl's ganking low lvls. Then I discovered lvl 60 WoW BG's.
The funny part about this is that "real" PvPers consider this "carebear" PvP. To me, WoW BG's took some of the major gripes the average play has about PvP and removed them. No longer was PvP about high lvl's ganking low lvl's. Everyone was in the sae lvl range and everyone had close to equal numbers. It came down to skill and group tactics. How does this apply to WAR? I am hoping for the same type of battles with the seige warfare. Group on group. Sure, there will still be some ganking but for the most part I think players will gravitate to group type PvP.
Another thing about BG's that got me interested in PvP was rewards. I am not the type of person that can hate and want to kill another faction just because a games lore says I can. I don't see the world that black and white. So for me, what better reason to put foot to @ss then to earn cool stuff? The BG rewards gave me a reason to ge in there and play. I see WAR being the same way. Theres a REASON to PvP. Sure, the lore might say you are meant to hate the other faction, but they also give you another reason to kill them.
All in all I have to say this game looks like it is going to be pretty bloody good. A week ago I had no intention of caring at all but now I am planning to leave EQ2 when It comes out. I am looking forward to getting back to some quality group PvP. I want a battlefield, not ganking newbies 40 lvls lower while they are trying to quest. It looks like WAR may very well be that game.
-Currently looking forward to FFXIV
-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

In this thread, we have learned the power of *reading*
It is amusing to read your perception of pvp though (as it is shared by many) kind of sad you never played daoc, as it got a better pvp system than wow.
And yes, you will learn to hate enemy races not because of lore, but because of how the game is set up As it is one of the major factors of daoc's rvr, and mythic fully realizes it and will try to make sure realm pride is a part of War.
To me the most important aspect of WAR will be its RvR and by that i mean OPEN warfare. I want to be running around questing with a group and getting ambushed by some destruction mofo's that what PvP really is for me. Not 5,4,3,2,1, Ready? ok FIGHT. And that is why i took so much promise from the last developer chat where they explained that one of the reasons for delaying the game was to make sure their OPEN RvR was up to scratch, made me so happy
WAR is indeed the game I am looking forward to playing the most. RVR imo is the only endgame I'm interested in. RVR that shapes the game world I am playing in.
Although WoW is a great game it's a pve game, and I hate instanced pvp.
With DAOC under their belt I have high hopes for WAR.
So yes, you will learn to hate the other side.... until you take a break and play it one day like I did.
Truthfully, I left MLF pretty quick though..and moved over to the FFA PVP server where every guild besides my own was my enemy....

I beilive that WAR will cater to both kinds of players that like instanced PvP battles and open field battles. I personally like both, I just hope instanced PvP doesnt dominate to much so that there is no open PvP battles.
PvP afficionados come in many flavors from FPS Deathmatch to Hardcore Permadeath and many Middle-of-the-Roaders.
WAR offers something different and satisfying to a broad spectrum of PvP-lovers and to those fence-sitters who are distrustful of Gank-a-mania PvP and want something more strategic and tactical.
Even mild-mannered PvE/RPers who are exposed to Realm vs. Realm combat begin to relish the chance to flex their PvP muscles in battle .
However, in WAR also exists an interesting amount of standard RPG/PvE elements to give the game more depth and breadth.
All of this will be packaged with the Warhammer lore and traditions with familiar and well-liked races and classes.
Beta reopens in December and we look forward to release of more information!

I've always kept this perception of PvP as well. Though I always have and will play pvp servers because they tend to be the most populated and that is why I play mmo's to start with.
When I played WoW before the BGs no one that I saw pk'd at thier own level. The people who love non-instanced pvp love to gank, period. They say otherwise, but they're all griefers, its some kind of mental thing.
Anyway, with more of a guided pvp like the BGs, DAOC and WAR, things get better.
