If this game is no good, what is better?

natevploegnatevploeg Member Posts: 35

For those of you in Tabula Rasa forums who dont like the game, id like to know what games you think are better if this is so bad. (not sure why your on this forum to begin with if you dont like it but oh well)

I dont even care if you dont compare what the 2 games are like at launch or not, just want to know what is so great and dominates this game so much.

    OH THE HUMSPAMITY!

(this thread is destined to crash and burn in flames like the Hindenburg)

That aside, I think the TR model is where a lot of MMO's are going to go in the future: lacking content that can be easily plugged in later with patches but the content that is there actually WORKS... [and it does work, so no Vantard comparisons plz].

This gets the game out faster to cut production costs, and gets the income flowing... now they better start getting that content flowing FREE patches... cause if they try to play some shit by making people pay for a patch that just fills in content that should have been there from the start you'll see me on here hating along with the rest of them (until I get banned again anyway)

right, but i just wanted to know what you think is a better game

There doesn't have to be a game I'm playing to think this game is of very low quality.  The truth is there haven't been any recently released games that can really be said to top this, and I believe that is why it's so popular.  People have been looking for a game to play, this provides one, I and many others included that downplay this game aren't currently playing anything however that doesn't discredit our opinions and in most cases facts about the downfall and disappointment of this game.

If you want a list of MMO's in general to top this and the reason that they do so I can provide those as well.  I believe your question pertains more to asking what currently is better than this, I may be wrong...

Honestly, they've delivered on everything that have promised (or are working on it with vehicles, AH system etc.)

Anything else people feel this game may be "missing" is purely your own pipe dreams and misguided wishful thinking.

Tabula Rasa never promised to be an "end-all" super MMORPG, it promised to be different then hack n' slash orcs and elves, be a ton of fun and accessible, have a good and compelling story, and to be an immersive world.

They've delivered on all of those and more.

With time will come better crafting, better economy systems (AH), vehicles, additional content, more races, etc. etc.

Who ever said that they "took what they promised and delivered it and delivered it well, with the intent to add the rest as they go with the additional cash flow/time" was 100% correct.

They didn't promise to be the "best uber OMGBBQ ROFLCOPTOR MMORPG" ever released ever, the promised a good, fun game with a interesting story and engaging world. So far, 10/10 on all of those points.

Anyone who was expecting more/something different was simply expecting too much. Enjoy it for what it is, I am.

So that boils down to "there is nothing better but TR still sucks"? Wow, what a malcontent

I mainly ask for people to think about it because i feel that peoples expectations for any game (or anything for that matter that is coming out) are way too high.  Everyone expects this perfect game.

So this game comes out and it does so many things well and makes an mmorpg exciting to fight and will probabaly influence a lot of future mmorpg's in the future.  Then people come on and disregard that and just bash things that havent been built to perfection before release.

I used to play WoW and i quit about 6 months ago. At the time i quit, thinking back to the way the game was on release, i dont think i could even play it anymore in that state.  WoW is arguably one of the greatest mmo's (not the best, but its up there) and so much has changed.  There were tons of haters then too, but how can blizzard in this case know what everyone wants before release.  Beta only helps so much and lasts so long.  If people want completely polished and finished games, dont buy them in the first few months after release.  This is how most online games work.

That and i just hate trolls/haters trying to ruin it for others without any real reason except their expectations arent met.

Well OP, you can blame this community for going down the toilet for that

I expected people to complain about the game since its a forum and where theres a forum to spit out peoples rants, thers going to be a lot of negativity.  I actually was surprised though how little there was, i just wanted to hear from those bashing the game what they thinking beside "this game is no good" type things.

If you can stand a MMO where the combat consists of pressing different flashing icons (Whac-A_Mole anyone?)then this is not a game for you. Some of us can't stand that type of simplified unimaginative dumbed down combat .

Then again some of us like dressing up as women in our spare time

How popular is it? Are there any numbers out as to how many subscibers?

I've been watching Amazon and it is doing poorly, considering that it's a brand new offering. Hellgate, OTOH, has been #1 in the RPG category for weeks.

well TR has gotten very good reviews as opposed to lackluster ones for HGL, so its the marketing that will sell more HGL right now, but in the long run its the quality of the game which will be the deciding factor of success.

PC Gamer gave Hellgate a pretty good review. Have they reviewed TR yet? And as for marketing--Hellgate producers didn't put their female warriors naked in Playboy. Now, that was a stroke of marketing genius!

The PC Gamer review was a bad joke. They reviewed a beta build a full 3 months before HGL even went gold (magazines usually have a three to four month lead time on articles). So anything they looked at was speculative at best. PC Gamer just wanted to sell magazines and stay competative with online media - can't really blame them for that. However, I can blame them for reviewing a beta build of a game that was more than 3 months from being gold.

As for TR, it's pretty much the only modern (read: recently released) sci-fi game out there that has any fun factor. True, it's lacking content at the upper levels, but it's a fast, fun game for the casual mmo player, imo. It's easy to get into and you get to shoot lots of stuff with big guns. Wait for a free trial (which will happen soon, I'm sure) and give it a try then. They'll probably have the auction house and stuff by then, I'd think.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

I've also seen Hellgate several times on the XFire "ten most played" list. Are there a lot of Xfire TR players?

according to that logic McDonalds is the best food on the planet

HG had posters all over the place (in -game) of PC Gamer in Beta... wonder if that had anything to do with it's review...

HG also uses xfire as it's built in voice chat, that might have something to do with the xfire usage... not sure.

Either way, HG had me wrapped around it;s finger... then it released and has gone straight downhill since. I was a HUGE fan of the game until it launched.

I bought the HG CE and I will certainly be logging in once in a while to see if it improves (it took a serious turn for the worse after launch imo), but for now TR is leaps and bounds ahead of it in my opinion.

MacDonald's food is arguably the most popular, and I was asking about popularity/sales/actvity rather than subjective questions of quality.

    What a craptasm trend.

I'll take your word for it, thanks--guess it's a trend. But, just as a throwaway thought here. How'd you like to be the writer who did the backstory for Sarah Morrison, develop and create a character who was supposed to be a heroic leader, only to have the puerile management execs turn your creation into Sarah Whorison?

Wouldn't like it at all, if I didn't design sex into my character I would prefer to keep my "property" (which gets signed away, sigh, in exchange for some cash) within the context it was created in.

Didn't mean for my last post to sound demeaning, was more irritated by the fact that they did that, and others are doing it too. So for that I apologize. Sure its boobs, yay for them, who cares, thats not what the game is about running around trying to find lyra naked (I actually don't even know WHAT the game is about, and I'm on act IV)

    **start real post below**

Anyway, I was in beta for TR, and it was good stuff for a while. It went through some rough times, but its good for a lot of details and neat action scenes. It has a dark storyline with a lot of humor if you look for it. Grab some friends on vent or use the in game chat and enjoy yourself, its a good one and should get better.

    I agree it's a bad trend.

Conan did it with at least 1 and maybe 2 of it's female characters in Playboy. Jericho has one of it's characters in Playboy. Witcher has it's female in Playboy.

I find the whole concept strange...

Do the SKorean gamers generally go for porn associated with their online games? My impression is that they were more straight-laced.

I could name plenty of better games. I must admit I enjoyed Tabula Rasa from the beginning, because of the atmosphere and the great background music by Vrenna, the fact the game is catastrophically bugged (I tend to exaggarete a little) after level 30 + made me leave. I even pre-ordered Collector's edition to get all the lore from the intergalactic manual (as they call it) which is great. But the game is simply unplayable for me after level 30 on the european server. The lag on the only european server is just horrific. I might return to TR after a couple of months, but the transition from polished state (1-25 level) to totally bugged state (level 30 + ) is so tremendous, I couldn't continue.

    REALITY CHECK

Dont know how it is now on the Euro servers but since yesterday patch, my ping took a drastic drop it overs like at around 10-30 ms all the time on the East Coast server ( we only got one also and it pretty crowded on peak hours also ) Also the patch FIXED alot of quest yesterday, we were able to do all the ones we couldnt do because of bugs and they worked fine.  Right now the game really enjoyable with the patch from yesterday.  Its an all new feeling lol.
