The FX is the better card. The MX isn't a whole lot more than an overpriced GeForce2.

The MX is way worst than Ti, trust me, everything is worst. Geforce4 Ti4600 is about the same as the GeforceFX 5700 and the ATI Radeon 9700pro. Only thing that's bad is that it isn't a GFX card from the DirectX9 generation.

MX is a low end card, FX is high end. I had a Geforce 4 440MX. It was ok but it is not very high quality. You can get by playing almost all games on market with it (I use it for SWG, Battlefield Vietnam, and many more) and I get good results. No sluggish framerate or anything. But as I said, it is very low end. If you dont mind graphics that are a little under par then get it, they are only $35.00, however, I just upgraded to an ATI 9200 Pro and it was only $65.00 and it is like 10 times better than the Geforce 4 440 MX, much much prettier. Many say go with the 5800 FX or 9800 pro, but if you want very good quality for low price go for the ATI 9200 Pro. Be sure though if you get it to download the newest catalyst drivers (i think 6.0 or something).
Now for the response to ATI fanboys and Geforce fanboys! Absolutely no problems or crashes when I had my Geforce, it was a great card. As for the ATI, I had a few crashes at first because I did not have the latest drivers. I do however crash a lot when playing Knights of the Old Republic. It seems to only crash sometimes when I am loading into a new area, not very often, but enough to make me want to save before I go to a new area. Now in ATI's defense I think it is a prolem with KotOR as they have said there are certain crash issues with ATI cards that they will be issuing a fix for. So my opinion? I think both ATI and Geforce are great cards, I just think that Nvidia really likes to overprice their cards, especially the new 6800, it being $700-800 where the x800 is only $500-600.
All in all, my recommendation is to get the ATI 9200 pro, best buy and great quality for such a low price.

The FX basically refers to geforce cards after geforce4.
They dropped the use of the MX after geforce4 series because it got such a bad reputation.
However, they still made poor quality cards in the tradition of the MX series in cards such as the FX5200 and to a lesser extent 5600.
Some would say the FX5600 is a mid range card but I beg to differ as i think its in between the low end and mid range rather then mid range even when it just came out.
Anyhow you be better off with a Ti4200 then a FX5200.All depends on how much you want to spent.
If you are looking for a top range card with best bargain then you should look at the ATI radeon 9800pro .
The MX cards is really only office hardware, intended for workstations that never will use a game or any kind of 3D tool.

I used a 440MX to for a long time, it worked, more or less. But fact is they were never intended for gaming. Nvidia made the cards to put in office machines. As TnL is software they just added it in, didnt cost them anything and prolly sold a few cards. None the less its the most ultra budget you can get really as graphic cards go. Hell my card didnt even have a fan.

The big problem with MX as opposed to Ti cards is the vertex and pixel shading algorithms that were brought in with DX9 do not work on MX cards. Hence, you try to run stuff like Deus Ex 2 and it no workee! With some games it just frells up the lighting entirely and with others (recent) it just won't let them play at all. Any Ti will do you well for most games but thanks to stuff like Doom 3 I'm probably going to have to upgrade sooner rather than later. Damn Carmack and his programming genius!!!
I had a Ti 4600 and my friend has a Radeon 9700 pro, he had close to the same spexs and his card allways overpowered mine. Firsthand experience is allways a good tool... try it
First hand experience says that having a faster clock speed means fuck all if the card shits itself every 2 hours.
Buh bye 9800 pro, hello geforce 5900. Lookie there, nary a problem since installing it.

Upcoming: EverQuest II
It's Ti or MX... isn't it?
GeforceFX is another series, not from Geforece4.

Tom's Hardware
Check it out. Geforce4 Ti4600's core clock and memory clock is about the same as the Radeon 9700pro.
