Random Reboots?

TeknodredTeknodred Member Posts: 17

Hey guys,

I got a problem, My PC is quite high end, got an 8800 GTX, 2gb, duo core etc,

Now i have tried to play TB, love the game but sometime i get reboot can be very random times, but lets say can be every 20mins or so,

I have unchecked reboot on crash, it gives me no BSOD and when i boot the PC back up it just boots up as if nothing happened, I also cant seem to find any record of it in event viewer,

Any suggestions?

I seem to run other games fine, anyone else got this problem?

Thanks!

I get BSODs sometimes. After the map is loaded mostly.

    Especially after alt-tabbing a lot.

    Hi there,

    Thanks, But as i said,

I get no BSOD, there is no recollection of the reboot anywhere on the system,

    Is this normal?

While I don't get reboots or BSODs, usually a random reboot after a period of time of the system being used and with no record of it in the event log, this sounds like you might be overheating.

I just had a server doing the same thing on me. It would run as an application server just fine, but as soon as a backup would get 30 minutes to an hour in it'd restart. No log of why it would do this.

Opened up the server and found the blower fan to be running at about half the speed it should be. Replaced it and the problem was fixed.

I do get a BSOD when it crashes. It used to be because of my Video Card overclock, then I lowered it and it was fine. But now I have a different card, and it isn't OCed at all, and I am getting BSOD's again, but they aren't from the video card, they are from my processor apparently.

I know my stuff isn't over heating, but there are people that aren't getting this problem at all, is there any rhyme or reason to this? Thanks.

Yesterday, while playing TR, my PC just turned itself off twice throughout the day...I have a GF 8800GTX, and the power supply unit overheated and must have shut off. Next time your PC just switches itself off while playing TR, check your power supply unit, see if it's hotter than usuall, chances are, your PSU cannot provide enough power for your whole system, as the GF 8800 GTX is an absolute power hog, will need a 600W PSU at least if you're using a dual/+ core CPU too.

I suggest you look into your cooling set up. Your symptims sound like an overheating problem to me. Every 20 minutes really sounds like a heat problem.

How long do you play before this begins?

Didn't notice this post before I replied. Good point, you may need a better power supply.

Definetly a cooling and/or PS issue.

I'm running a single core intel p4 system, with 2.3 gigs of ram, a 7600gs 512 and a very mediocre mainboard - I have never had a random reboot or BSOD when playing Tabula Rasa.

I have issues with lack of good cooling in my system, however not on my card itself, so I'm leaning towards your 8800 not getting enough cooling, seeing as my own systems overheating issues are directly related to other components in my system and do not effect my TR gameplay one bit.
