FFXI type game
Hi everyone
After having to take a break from mmo's for a while due to
financial/college reasons, I want to get into another but i'm not sure
which I should try playing and was wondering if anyone had some
suggestions. I played FFXI for about 2 years back in the past and that
was by far my favorite mmo and I am looking for something similar to
it. The main thing i want the mmo i'm going to try is to have group
based leveling like in FFXI where there is not much soloability. It
would also be cool if the economy (auction house) was similar.
I played WoW for about a year, i've tried lotro, matrix online, EQII,
scions of fate, EVE online, but none of them were what I was looking
for. Really i'm just wanting to know if there is another mmo out there that is kinda similar to FFXI since that type of mmo held my attention for a long time.

actually im looking for the same thing, played FFXI for 2yrs+ stopped playing due to work and beggining collage. ive been playing and researching games out the anus, but not much to show for it. The closest thing i can see to it for the PC has been Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, but sadly i cant run it on my comp.
that game is more group orientate, a huge world, has alot of ways to travel, the only thing it lacks is much endgame content (FFXI had tons of it, probly the best IMO, but it was the reason to play the game really) this one actually just got endgame content relased recently, so im sure by time anyone reached cap starting now there will be plenty more. my only concerns for this game (wich i truely want ti to turn around) is the huge world w/ lack of players, the possiblity of SOE giving up on it soon in the future if it doesnt pick up (mainly becuase of the slew of great looking future MMOs). id say if u have a good comp give that a try and lemme know hwat an FFXI vet thinks, its hard as hell to find anything close to the style of FFXI.
lord of the ring or lineage 2 ? i'm not sure though havent played them
why not go back to ffxi , the new expansion is coming out soon, 2 new jobs, scholar and dancer
lotro defnitly dont try, its like wow were its very solo and very lacking in class verity, feels like the same 5-6 cookie cutter classes. linage thought i was actually recently checking it out, its a bit older and i here its swarmed to hell w/ bots and spammers wich would kill it really fast for me, though i might try it if there is a trial.
yeah lotro is a WoW duplicate for the most part at least I thought. I was thinking about giving Vanguard a try but I need to get a hold of a buddy key (i hate dropping $50 just to test a mmo and find out i dont like it). I heard lineage is similar to ffxi but no where near as good. i heard there were a lot of problems with it but who knows. as far as vanguard goes, i heard they semi-recently condensed down the servers in order to increase the population on each and they added a bunch of new content, so if I can get a hold of a buddy key and try it out i'll for sure be sure to let you know how it is.
as far as going back to ffxi, i havent played it in like 2 years, and in the near past I tried to recover my character but SE tried and couldnt recover it. i have a bunch of friends that i still talk to from the game that will give me a new account, but that is my last resort. it's hard to start a game over from scratch again so that is why it's my very last resort.
hopefully someone else will reply with vanguard experience or know of another mmo like ffxi
well a few of my buddys i know in RL play still and they are trying to get me back in, but i refuse to start over, i applyed for the return home thing and its been over a week, with nothing in site, so i doubt il play it ever again. on a good note vanguard did drop to 20$ wich is a good thing for me sience im not rich and i hafta blow 100$ on a new graphics card somtime soon(looking for a decent 512deticated card) well if i do end up getting it sooner then later, il drop u a key, but im not sure when it will happen. getting a key is very hard to find sience the games not emencly popular, i actually got one from the vanguard main forums, but still, they are hard to come by.
L2 looks like its still ravaged w/ bots and it is much much older wich turns me off from it a bit, id rather be on a fresher game (was always playing a game within the first yr or so) makes it more intresting IMO. Well if u do get it and enjoy the game lemme know, i tryed it but it lagged to hell on my crappy onboard card to the point were it was unplayble. mabey ul hae better luck. GL on ur hunt for a new game, and if u find somthing like FFXI that u enjoy, lemme know, ive been serching for a while now, im basicly down to waiting to play Warrhammer online for a PvP style game w/ a couple friends...but that will be while.
