However, I guess that means there is no general free trials set up as of yet for CoH

Well if thats how u feel,I guess ok then.I'll have someone else out with the deal.
If I´m not wrong, I think that people with an CoH/CoV account can send a trial to someone. And if that person decides to start playing and activated that trial key as an active, the one who sent the trial will get a free month to play. So both you and that person would be happy.
So ask people with an CoH/CoV account and they can perhaps send u an trial.
But as I said, if I´m not wrong. But I do got an accaunt on CoH&CoV (Europe), and I got a newsletter about that, so it shud work for everyone.
I would like to help, but becouse I live in europe, I dont know if it would work, might be an europe version then.
