Buy yourself a nice new dildo and ream yourself good with it, it will feel about the same as buying swg from SOE, same pain for cheaper.

Whatever you decide use the free trial first. And if you  do buy dont be shocked if SOE nerfs everything you have acomplished in game 6 months down the road.

Asking that question in this forum is like asking the guy who was just dumped by his girlfriend if she was someone to get with. Remember that if the devs in this game added incredible new systems and gameplay that surpassed anyones wildest thoughts of what a game could be most of the people in this forum would trash it just out of spite.

Asking that question in the other forum is like asking the guy who goes out with the fat ugly chic with two teeth if his girlfriend is hot. Remember that if the devs completely rip off systems from successful games (and do it half assed) or recycle old content taken out of the game and try to pass it off as new, it's still a piece of garbage underneath, but the rabid fanbois will tell you how great the game is.

I find this so funny.  No real opinions just Flamming.

Try the game it's not as bad as 90% of the people here claim.

I played since Beta. Is it 1/2 as good as the rest of know that it was?  NO. That being said. New people dont konw how good it use to be so they might enjoy it alot. You know the new gen MMO Kids. I want it now and i want to Be Leet for 0 work.  We know how MMO's are nowdays.

Since the coming of WOW every MMO has cloned. Not that it matters but WOW cloned the really good MMOs. FFXI, AC, EQ...name the older MMOs and u have it. (BTW 9Mil Subsciptions includes my 10 year old brother who put his trial on for 4 days. Drop the fake numbers)

The pic of kids crying in the city is nothing new either....ever hear of AC2?

SOE messed up but im still there since the Theme is a great one. Gameplay is ok (have to get use the new whiners version at first) but its not that bad.  The theme will keep it alive, look at D&D and Matrix everyone said they wouldnt last.

    Try it!

To be honest with you the game isnt bad but the direction it is going equals nothing but grind. The last chapter really let me down. Grinding mobs 30+ levels under you for hours and hours on end is not fun. Hell grinding mobs your own level isnt fun. CH7 was nothing but a lame attempt at adding some time sinks disguised as content. If this is the future of the game it is a huge step backwards.

Finding a group really depends on the server you are on. On my server its pretty much impossible. I cant say for sure how it is everywhere else.

I have had some really good experiences with SWG Customer Service. Other people havent. That seems to be hit or miss these days.

The community in SWG is a fairly mixed one. There are a lot of  Elitist Jerks in the game. Poeple who stayed with SWG the whole time and feel that because of that they are better than returning or new players. Every MMO has them maybe it seemed more prevalent in SWG because my server population was so low.  There are also some pretty helpful cool people in the game. Although I have found that the new grind seems to have brought out the worst in a lot of people. Concepts like sharing mobs and cooperation have gone right down the crapper. I would say right now with CH7 being everyones main and only priority the community is about the same as WoW's.

The game itself seems more stable than it has been in a long time. In the last 3 or 4 months that I have been playing it hasnt crashed on me once. There are some weird sound glitches that I have heard people complain about but I never play with my sound on so I can not say if they are true. I will warn you though this game is far from polished. There are bugs in the game that have been here for years and they show no signs of being fixed.

I wouldnt say the graphics are out dated. The game looks good and when compared to other games Id say it holds its own although a lot of the animations could be better. There is server side lag and at times this can create problems. After playing for awhile you find ways around it.

I hated the leveling process in SWG. Just going from 80 to 90 was boring and awful. Its not so bad now with the extra xp for doing missions but you only get that extra xp for 10 missions a day.  I know a few people that have quit before they ever got close to 90. It really all depends on the kind of person you are and your tolerance for the grind.

To sum it up for you I would give it a try. Just dont go in to SWG with huge expectations.

Like some others said before, try a free trial first before buying the whole package. I played for about 9 month before the Combat Upgrade kicked in and lost interest in it very quickly. The current game (NGE) is a very dumbed down version of the original. Still, do the trial and make your own decision. You may like it or you may not. You won't know for sure until you try it.

You should have stopped there, because that was the point at which you ceased to be correct.  The game is NOT as bad as 90% of people here claim (because unlike them, I played up to 3 months ago, so I have direct experience).

    It's WORSE.

The game is more broken with more bugs than ever.  The combat system is a complete and utter mess.  Skill attachments have to be changed EVERY publish because they continually change things.  Targeting is a nightmare even with lock.  Get more than 15 people in one area (hard to do, I know on most servers) and the game grinds to a slideshow halt.

Yet the Devs continue to pile more layers of lipstick onto this pig.

I suggest you upgrade your video card and buy some more ram if you get that much lag, and also I suggest buying a new mouse if targeting is really that hard for you.

oh man, I bout died LOL'n reading this, seriously, spot on

And to the OP, being a long time vet of SWG, sad as it is to say, I would not recommend buying this game, its glory days are long over, and its already got 1 foot in the grave.

It has a tiny dev team that can barely get a publish out every 6 months or so, anything cool they do manage to add is usually a re-hashed and half-assed version of something they previously removed, or its (as always with SOE) "too little, too late".

Not to mention the devs/publisher have stated numerous times that "we have no plans for a retail expansion" (and the last one was over 2yrs ago), and games that are doing good and making money get regular expansions, plain and simple.   So if the very people running the game have no confidence in it, how can anybody else really feel good about it, let alone a possible new customer.

If you really feel like trying the game (without throwing $20 down the crapper), just try the free trial, but do not buy the game before your 14 days are up.   Do not judge the game based on your 1st day on the noob tutorial station, as the devs polished that place for a reason, to fool new people into thinking the entire game was similar, but theres a steaming turd waiting for you under that polish.  So if you try the free trial, be sure to completely finish the tutorial station, make it down planet side, and do something beyond just the "legacy quest", as again thats just a hand-holding quest meant to keep noobs occupied long enough to fork over their cash, and does not truly represent the entire game.

I read the SWG forums often but I don't post there. I've noticed now that even new players (registered 2005 or later) are now starting to feel what the vets has been feeling, and they're speaking out in many posts that they don't want anymore changes, they're getting really tired of the devs revamping something over and over again.

I don't recommend it to anybody anymore, it's just a very crummy mess of a game now.

    This just makes me chuckle.

Should you buy the game?  Nope.

I suggest you do some research.  Read up on the games ratings, and player reviews.   There are other sites besides this one that do them.   Look at them objectively to see if the game may be to your likeing.   If after doing your research you still feel like you would want to try it, go download the trial.   If after playing the trial you still feel like you would like the game, then by all means go ahead and buy it.

My personal opinion:   Stay as far away from SWG as possible.   But thats just me.   Feel free to make up your own mind.

SWG, Like i stated before has turned into a clone, yes. But to say how its so bad compared to other games is wrong. Look at all the other new MMOS out there now.  They are all just as lame and cheesy, almost 0 options. Istances up the butt which basically takes them out of the MMO line. Everyone can pretty much solo and do everything.

Almost every game has changed stuff and for the worst (most the time). The only game that i know of that didnt actually skrew up changes and has stayed true to its gameplay is FFXI. Almost all other MMOs have done the same thing to the player base. Typically because people cry about how they are cheated, another class is to leet or something to hard within the game. Thats why SWG, AC2, COH & LOTRO (happening right now) all have made major changes and the players are/were all pissed.

Point is, you can hardly escape the changes. Everyone nowdays will face them. Kids didnt like the complex SWG so they changed it. Kids dont like it that they cant PWN the freeps so they change the creeps and then they might change the freeps(which was not ever suppose to happen according Turbine). GW wasnt PVP driven when it was BETA but look at it now. It will be this way for most games. Grow up and get over it. Try a new game. This new player base has changed things. IMO for the worse & im betting other older MMOr's would agree.

Anyway, now that we are all on the same page and playing the same games with different themes.  Take your pick and get use to it. Dont like Star Wars move to EQ2 or VG or wherever.

I wouldn't even compare COH to what happened to SWG, in COH they didn't really change anything other than add the Rikti War Zone and auction house with matching enhancement sets which is addicting. I remember back in issue 2 or 3 they went through huge changes on each class because that's when they introduced arena and pvp for the first time and the changes were neccesary otherwise fighting a regen scrapper would have been pointless, but they didn't change the GUI or combat interaction or add dungeons or such that SOE has to SWG.
