LF a game with challenging PVE end game content

MoonrocketMoonrocket Member Posts: 18

I'm looking for a game with emphasis on end game PVE content to be completed with a group of players or a raid. I have a lower level account in EQ2, but somehow it didn't hit me, and besides that I've already completed all the raids in WOW, so both of the games are out of question. I'll list below the games I've thought of, and hope that you can establish which one to pick from a endgame players point of view. All this because I don't want to have a mindless grind to realize the game afterall has nothing to offer for me.

- Lotro (Heard that it has "some" endgame raiding, but I have no idea to what extent)

- FF online

- DnD Stromreach

- Everquest 2 (If you convince me to pick up on it, I will!)

- Everquest (I've heard this game remains as the mother of killing dragons in a raid etc. BUT, I've also heard it's emphasised on quantity over quality)

- RF online

Please feel free to suggest another game which I haven't mentioned. I intentionally left out Lineage 2 upon hearing that it's a dreadfull grind to reach the level cap, so thats a no go. Other than that, I hope that you will take the time on reasoning why you suggest a specific title, if I wanted you to just blurt out the name I'd make this a poll. Thanks!

    Hey Moon,

I guess download LOTR trial and have a go at it. I played it for a week and enjoyed it enough.  However did not continue as I was looking for an SCI-FI alternative.  However the missions tend to be quite well thought out and reminds me of the old D&D days.  The game that is sucking up my time is Tabula Rasa but if you don't like lots of futuristic weapons and loads of gun fire then it wont be for you.  However the PvE in it is pretty awesome and pretty much dynamic.

If you really did complete 'all' the raids in WOW... I salute you for your perseverance.  Based on that, I'd recommend FFII as a viable choice.  Long slow leveling curve that from what I understand is heavily group based questing and raiding...

Thanks for the replies. What comes to Tabula Rasa, I'll keep it in mind, but remain on the conservative side when it comes to themes in my RPG games (meaning im not into the futuristic technology). On the more positive side, FF online sounds like what I'm looking for. Ohh, and yeah, I have indeed completed WOW's raid content in it's entirity. (Time for some WOW jargon) That's also why I decided to quit, despite BT being an interesting dungeon, it's been a steady decline in quality since Naxxramas was introduced.

I think WoW has the only PvE perspective at the moment. I don't know what eq2 can offer pve wise, since i couldn't get into that game, even though i really wanted to.

Well, it's not an everyday topic on these forums where people ask for a game which can offer good PvE, i've used to topics who relate more or less to PvP.

Also, I've heard that Vanguard will offer some raids eventually, that game has some very nice potential, but that's another story. Anyways, like i stated above, my vote goes for WoW, (that's for the future perspective)  even though you said you've completed all it has to offer for now.

I don't know if i helped you by any way, hope you'll find what you are looking for.

    Hey there,

I wouldn't recommend LOTRO if you're into end-game content. I've been through all the end-game content lotro has to offer and let me tell you, there's not much of it.  Although, they do add updates every few months or so. The last two added to the end-game content, but it's still lacking massively. PvP is meh. Endless killing in one area with little to no reward. Tedious to say the least.

I agree with the previous poster. FFXI is the way to go if you want good end-game content. I had a blast with FFXI. Leveling to reach max level (75) takes quite some time though. It is practically impossible to solo exp in FFXI unless you're a Beastmaster. The downfall - and it's a rough one - is that depending on the job (class) you choose to play, you may be sitting around for hours waiting to get an invite into an exp. party. I'm not sure how easy it is to get exp parties anymore. When I left, which was about 6 months ago, the majority of the games population had already reached max level.

If you choose to try out LOTRO, I would imagine that by the time you reach the level cap (50) there will be more end-game content. Beware though, many of the top kins on my server have dwindling member numbers. Some have disbanded altogether. I was playing with an old friend today and he told me that his guild is leaving the game.  Seems LOTRO is losing many members shortly after they attain max level.

EQ2 is loaded with PVE grouping and raiding.. It would take a Looooooong time to complete all it's raid worthy content..

Not being a jerk or anything just informing the guy above, EQ2 kills WOW PVE wise. it's not really in the same league.. However I enjoy PVP more so I play wow =)..

If you enjoy raiding...EQ is the source, the spawn of it all.

WoW may have adapt it, to make it more...pleasant.  But the challenge will be higher, the quantity will be higher, the requirements will be heavier.

I left EQ because of raiding.  I didn't play WoW or EQ2 because of the raid components.  WoW raids where designed by some EQ raiders.  They improve some aspect of it, they make sure it was not broken on release (cause they are cry-babies who cry about broken content), but challenge-wise, some EQ encounters (not all) will definitely outdo anything else raid-wise.

Why someone would want to raid is beyond my understanding, but that is not your request and I shouldn't rant against raiding.  EQ2 will be softer.  WoW was more casual.  EQ is the spawn of it all...and if you want "challenging" raids, then it is definitely the place to go.  To make the experience better for you however, if you don't want to miss all the old content, you may want to make sure you respect the level limits and the AAs limits and don't hunt in some newer zones until you are done with the part of the old content you actually crave for...if you just want to get to the finish line, or if you can't find enough peoples to join you from the start, then just join any uberguild, they will ignore all the old content.  (You can limit yourself to the old continents and level 50, exclude new zones such as Caziz-Thule until you raid successfully Vox and Nagafen and whichever plane that wasn't updated (if any remains), then when you do that, you limit yourself to 60 and to Kunark until you clear VP...then you limit yourself to Luclin until you clear North Wing and West Wing in the temple (basically WoW designers broke here)...and then it would be the moon with the first 3 class of AAs only...I can't tell you the raid target to clear before you enter PoP, cause I lose all my interest by then, but after that you could level up to 65 and PoP and the 5 first areas of AAs until you clear Quarm...that should take you YEARS assuming you find the peoples to go with you...and you will need to figure a way to accept new peoples who didn't follow your rules, yet would accept to adapt to it from that point on without breaking the balance and the challenge).

As to me, I will go back to some grouping end-game content, but that is me.  I doubt we will meet each other in any MMO, but I wish you tons of fun.

PS: You are free to think what you want of it...but wouldn't be a raid-hater the best source to tell you where raiding is optimal?  If you can find 1 person who remotedly hate raiding as I do, I will give you a candy!

Thanks again for the replies, they've all been very helpfull. To answer why I'm into raiding, it's an administrational challenge (I like to lead raids, come up with and perfect strategies) for me. The generic button pressing is very boring, and in that case I agree with you, I don't understand raiding for the sake of raiding.

Anyways, Everquest might afterall prove to be a too large of a grind for me to handle, as for this crusade I'm setting alone with no company, and I can't stand long static hours of clicking monsters, clicking spells, looting monsters and so on. I've now narrowed my search into two titles, FF online and DDO Stormreach, of which the latter one presumably has a very mature community. For now, I'd be happy if someone could tell me the basics of what comes to DDO's end game (I don't want to bother the DDO peeps with my questions just yet!), or any further knowledge on FF online.

That stated I'm going to sleep and to digest all this. I wish you good night, and thank you for the help.

im an FFXI vet and i played DDO for a little while. FFXI has probly the most intense and intresting engame ive ver seen, but the early stages of the game is mostly just grinding day in day out, but if u can hild out to higher lvls, the endgame is really the beggining of the game. DDO is less of an MMO persay and more of just a group instance game, like phantasy star online. yes u have hundreds of ppl plaing but u basicly get a group and get warped into zones in wich u complete a certain task. there very diffrent types of games, so go w/ wich you would rather grindy/more true to MMO or instancey less MMOish game. but IMO if u really are willing to stick it out to near cap, FFXI will surely not dissapoint for endgame content, they really put more focus on this then anything else.
