What are some games with character customization?

There's not a lot of games out there that would let you customize your person, but I know theres a few out there (like Second Life). But can someone names some of the other games that would like you do it?

so by character custimization do you mean solely by the looks?

EvE is always a tempting send off if you don't care about looks but want everyone to play relativly different.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    City of Heroes/Villains is unmatched.

Even I enjoy customising a character in this game, I spent hours doing it.  Which is silly and I could be done in 5 minutes, but heck, it is developped just that nicely.

Going purely on appearance, Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes/Villains are the two best by far. The "City of" games definitely win when it comes to outfit customization, and Star Wars Galaxies wins hands down when it comes to facial customization (you can actually recognize people just by their faces, assuming your monitor's big enough to make out faces from a distance). These days, City of Heroes/Villains is the better choice for gameplay between the two; it's not an especially deep game, but it's great for grouping and the storylines are fun to read.

The "City Of" games is completely where it's at for character customisation. The EVE facial generator is cool too, but not much cop when all you're doing is creating a passport photo.

If by looks, City of Heroes / Villians was pretty good.  Of course the more important character customization option to me is skills / equipment and I think it is hard to look beyond Anarchy Online (a lot going on in that game).

Perfect World has a great customization system, although it's only for the character's face / hair.  Not clothes, armor, or body, so while fun to mess around with, you don't notice differences between players that much, as they run past each other.  It's also just about the only thing it has going for it.

For me, customization has become a make-or-break feature of an MMO.  I hate being surrounded by clones, that kills what "massively multiplayer" is all about, for me.  If an MMO doesn't have it, I probably won't even give it a shot.

What I really prefer is skill trees and stats and that sort of customization, to differentiate myself, but both kinds  of character individualisation strike me as pretty important.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Dungeons and Dragons Online has far best character customization than anything else. It wasn't mentioned here, because people don't understand it or didn't even play it properly. The system is built on D&D 3rd edition PnP RPG so you can imagine how complex it is. The multiclassing literally offers milions of bilions of different combination of classes.

I think Perfect World is the only game with character customization like Second Lifes, where you can import custom textures.  However, Second Life is the only game on the market that allows you to create your own meshes and scripts right now.

Well for pure cosmetic customisation ill have to go for City of HeresVillains.

For the more pratical side of customisation [things you can do thats different to others] id ahve to go for EvE with its 500+ ships and severall thousand fitting options. Then there are the implants and the jurry rigging system.

Dont mean to nit-pick or anything but to achiev that many combinations you would need A LOT of base classes for that to be true.

Perhaps you could explain in more detail concerning charecter customisation?

No its milions of bilions at level 14. Bear in mind it's a different to be level 1 cleric and level 13 fighter than level 2 cleric and level 12 fighter. Just try to count how much is that with 9 classes and 14 levels when there is a limit of 3 different class levels per character.

In addition the abilities you pick at the beginning makes the biggest impact on the whole character. Plus the non-combat skills, plus feats.. dear god. I rather not think about it or my head explodes.

9 for single-class, 468 for dual-class, and 2184 for triple-class. That's assuming, like you said, a 1/13 is noticeably different from a 2/12 of the same class combination.  2661 possibilities is a lot, but it's a far cry from "millions of billions."

is it just me or is there a group of fanboys trying desperately to advertise perfect world as much as they can on these forums?

either way, CoH/V is the best
