I need help narrowing down to one mmorpg!

I don't have time for more than one so here's the list I have come up with. Well its not really a list but 4.

First, my personal favorite is Neocron. I like Neocron because of its unique atmosphere. I find myself coming back to this game because of that. It was the atmosphere that drew me to this game back in its beta days. It has vehicles, guns, and a complex ingame communications system. I do like the graphics, it is right for this type of genre.

However, I do not see myself doing much in the game. I am still grinding away in one of the only worthwhile dungeons in the game (Regant's Legacy), and once I cap my WoC level, I don't know what else I would do.  There aren't many that play this game, and thats a turn off for me.

This game will always have a place in my heart, and I find myself always coming back to it only wishing that is has gotten better.

Bottom line, every time I log into this game, I'm either grinding at Regant's or ressing rare parts.

EVE Online, I like this game because it is complex although it bothers me that I don't understand the whole aspect of this game. It is that complex. I like how the server can hold so many people, and it feels like a huge world. The graphics are amazing. I'm still working on becoming an explorer (my own personalized profession). That won't be complete until January.

Bottom line, this game seems empty, nothing much to do, starting as a newb. I have 1.6 million SP so far, and still I find myself either not playing and waiting for the next skill to train or logging on to do a few missions. Its dull right now.

Now there is World of Warcraft, I like this game just because everyone plays it. And I mean EVERYONE, my boss, my professors, my friends. Its a huge social tool, and I've made many real life friends because of this game. The world is just beautiful, and there are so many things to do. Ruins, I love exploring ruins and there are many scattered throughout the landscape.

Right now, I'm a level 39 Blood Elf Rogue and I love it. I love the controls, the style, the sneaking, although fighting in WSG capture the flag can be a drag when its so long to complete a round. Many of the quests are interesting, and the gear looks beautiful.

I am not subscribed to this game right now, but I usually spent time logged either in the BGs trying to grind for new gear or doing quests which are ADDICTING. Or crafting. If there was a game I would play alone, this would be it. The problem is I also like those games above for their atmosphere.

I also like Anarchy Online. Its an old favorite and its free, but still it takes time away from me. I like the environments, although some of the armor is just awkward for a sci-fi game. I really doubt I'll be playing this much.

So it all comes down to: what does it sound like what MMORPG I like?

    Wasteofmytime Online

  • BaywillowBaywillow Member Posts: 70

What? Not sure what you mean...are you wasting your time? Not my fault you're getting old, your body is rotting away, that you feel like you should get a couple minutes of your life back. You choose what you want to do, and so its your own fault on whatever you're claiming to have wasted time on.

My other theory would be that you think I'm wasting my time? Well I'm young and have plenty of free time to do whatever I may please.

EDIT: Just realized I contradicted the first post. Although I do have free time, the rest of my time is spent in academics, work, and social life. In that order.

It all was very well written , and I voted WoW ... I guess that is all there is while we wait for the wow killer.

why did you put urban dead, thats only if you want to just muck around for thirty minutes each day.

  • BaywillowBaywillow Member Posts: 70

Urban Dead, that is the "other" option for those who hold a strong opinion on the 4 games I talked about. I will play Urban Dead no matter the result. It is good for wasting time in the computer labs.

I would pick EVE if you like the game. It is great for poeple with low amount of time. Especialy becouse you increase your skills even when being online and you can be compatitive in PvP fastly after joining (will be hard, but you can :P).

AO is also fun and free. There is no waste just trying that one out for an week or so and see if you like.

I have only played EVE so i can't comment on the others. With EVE it is good if you have some out of game conection with someone else so you break into a social circle. Joining a corp/alliance is the best way for the cold empty space to feel less lonely.

Exploration is getting more and more content and is becoming intiatly tied to the manufacturing/invention side of things. it is also hard for a solo ship to deal with the discoveries. Looking for a like minded group of explorers/industrialists may be worthwhile but i think you will have a hard time getting in until you can run a covertops frig and probe down sites.

    good luck with your choice.

Thanks all. I forgot to add that in AO, it lags for me, and the textures are glitchy. I have played this game off and on since release. Now as for EVE Online, I like it but its just going to take so long to reach my goal of becoming a space explorer. I have even trained advanced learning skills, and that helps a lot. Still my explorer won't be complete until apx. Jan. 13 2008.

As far as my training goes, I had first trained learning skills, and then I trained to use equipment to fit a Rifter for use in tackling. This is complete, and now I'm training to fly Assault Frigates and T2 equipment.

After this I will be training to become an explorer, and this will consist of the following skills taken from this thread on creating an explorer: http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=475156

    Covert Ops 4+

    - Racial Frigate 5

    - Electronic Upgrades 5

    - Spaceship Command 3

    - Electronics 2

    - Engineering 2

    Hacking 3+

    - Science 5

    Archeology 3+

    - Survey 5

    Salvaging 3+

    - Mechanic 3

    Astrometrics 4

    Astrometric Pinpointing 3+

    Astrometric Triangulation 3+

    Signal Acquisition 3+

As I have said, I can envision the fun to begin once all this training is complete in a little more than 2 months. Until then, it will only seem as if I will be pitching money in to watch a loading bar progress towards the eventual end of exploring space.

    Wait on Warhammer imo.

Although I cannot speak for the others, I would recommend NOT continuing with WoW. This is not because its a bad game (its actually good in my opinion) However, WoW is really focused on the GUild and group aspects. Reading your post, I do not get the feeling you are looking for a guild oriented pastime...you seem more like a ronin type. Try Eve Online, I hear its fun and good for solo play.

    Good LUck

Czzarre, i think you are mislead with Eve. Its a game that HURTS players who want to play solo and do that for more than some months. They will just get bored and quit. This game takes place in an unfriendly, harsh and cruel universe and without a nice group its just suicide.
But, at the same point, you dont need to group to level or similar. You just go online, and in most alliances you ask whats going on and where you can be useful to hurt the enemies and are in a gang (party) within minutes. Its a bit different here.

But definitly not a sologame. You can do it, but noone plays solo for more than just some months..

20 votes so far and WoW and EVE are tied....

  • Cypt1Cypt1 Member UncommonPosts: 283

As someone who just recently quit WoW after playing since launch, I can speak from experience. You don't HAVE to get into a large guild, but if you have absolutely no contacts whatsoever, it may be wise to go ahead and get in a guild.

In my case, I was in a large guild for a long time, but due to political drama (yay), we disbanded and most of the members regrouped as separate guilds. I opted to avoid the new guilds and formed a very small guild with about five people I trusted. Yeah, we didn't raid, but we each enjoyed PvP and did some rep grinding, which provided us with some decent gear in the end. If you don't want to mainly PvP though, as stated before, find a good guild; however, if you enjoy soloing, don't let the thought of raiding deter you from playing WoW; it's a really simplistic, yet fun game even if you want to solo or play in small groups. If you aren't too interested in the end game, you can always make alts as well, which is something I did quite a bit since I personally loathe raiding.

You mentioned that you like the atmosphere of the other games, and I know exactly where you're coming from. I've really been wanting a good sci-fi MMO since SWG was wrecked, but Tabula Rasa is lacking from my perspective. I was in the beta and played for a while, and honestly, it's a bit shallow as it currently stands, granted it is a brand new game and in the future it may turn out to be really good. But until it hits that point, I'm avoiding it.

I'm still at a buckle on what game to choose. Lets give it until the 20th of this month. Thats when my EVE subscription ends. With 25 votes counted in, WoW is winning.

  • oobeoobe Member UncommonPosts: 60

I've played Eve since may 2004, switched to WoW when it went live and a year later I found myself switching between those 2 mmo's every 4-5 months or so... when I got a little bored with one I switched to the other one.. it worked out pretty well because for the training in Eve, I could use this longer time of absense to train those nasty long skills :)

At this moment tho I'm about done with both, I don't play any mmo. It has been an immense fun time with both Eve and WoW but it's time for me to look/wait for something new.

    edit: fixed date

Alright, the more I play EVE the more I'm starting to enjoy myself with it. Right now I'm working on majorly becoming a good salvager, later on I will move onto become an explorer where I will join a corp and use my covert ops skills to be intel.

The poll needs to be updated....

Screw all of those games. The Matrix Online is where it's at. It's an amazing game. By far the best game I have EVER played. It has roleplaying, for those of you that like that, and on the other hand it has PvP, missions, Collectors, Hideouts, etc, etc. It's truly an amazing game. It's owned by SOE these days, and those bastards just choose to not advertise it. I've been on it for three years, and still loving every minute of it. At least check it out.

  • BaywillowBaywillow Member Posts: 70

Are these votes based on what game it sounds like I like the most or what other people like?

  • axe_heroaxe_hero Member Posts: 70

Come on now how could you possibly stop at lvl 39 in WoW?!? You gotta push on and get to 70 and while you are raid grinding have an epiphany that you just wasted a good 4 months of your life! Thats how the rest of us did it at least....

    god dammit

I have come to the decision of playing both EVE and WoW. 30 bucks a month isn't much anyway.
