As far as I see it and have been told, the general consensus on CPs is that they're fun, immersive and just plain cool. So, why not take it a step further? I think it would be nice additional feature if every once and a while the Bane would plan a large-scale strike (call it an LSS for simplicity's sake) against a specific or a multitude of CPs. Before an LSS would occur, the Bane would drop down scout units to gather intelligence on the CP(s). Players, if perceptive enough can spot these scouts (who would, assumably, be difficult to catch) and capture/kill them. The scouts would drop their gathered intelligence reports (which may be opened and read) and be able to infer that an LSS is about to occur. The player(s) may then choose to try to gather as many other players as possible to avert the attack (which would be a difficult task). Successfully warding off an LSS yields greater rewards and recognition than normal. Thoughts?

I always enjoy posts about Innovation, and fun new ideas. Not enough of em on these forums that for sure.
It would also be nice if you could avert the whole deal, by having players turn in a certain number of these scout reports, like lets say 50. They should be hard to find thats for sure, but let say you do find all 50, then you could set in place a mothership which enters orbit and is immediatly destroyed. That way the people that helped in destroying it could say, wow, I helped do that!
IF they dont get all intelligence reports then you will have to go on your own and fight for your life.

Jive,
That's a nice idea as well; it would be fun to see people work together in order to change the course of a large event. If I may anticipate future comments on your idea though: while 50 reports sounds like a lot (and thus like a grind), the purpose would not be to frustrate a single player. Instead, it could invoke a sense of necessity in teamwork. Getting 50 reports alone may be next to impossible. But it would be much less daunting with fellow players also on their guard for scouts.
My original thoughts were that these large-scale attacks would give a greater impression that the Bane are an intelligent and deadly force that will employ carefully constructed tactics to win. From the media coverage of the game, it seems like the primary theme is "Us vs. Them". So, in order to encourage player coordination on a massive scale, the developers should try to show that the Bane are coordinated on the same scale. Anyway, these are just entertaining to muse over, but maybe they'll strike a fancy with some of the devs when they're trying to modify content.
How about having special missions where you become an informant for the Bane? You trade battle plans with another Bane agent so you know where these LSS will be or you know where Bane weak spots are and get perks from AFS for handing in info?
Maybe this relationship can only last a short time ingame until either you or the Bane agent or both are rumbled and get your balls busted by superiors? Maybe if you get busted and not the Bane then you either get thrown out of the AFS and into a merc faction on a different planet (future content). Or are given the option to stay with the AFS aslong as you feed the Bane false info that the AFS gives you?

this sounds great for singleplayer but its think its too much of a fuzz in an online game. almost everybody (as is the nature of mmos) would be a double agent thus taking the thrill away.

That's why you can only be a double agent for a week or so before being caught and having to make a choice. Maybe you feed the bane false info for a week until the Bane discover you, your bane contact is discovered by the bane so the relationship ends. You get discovered and leave the AFS to a merc organisation. But I suppose the double agent thing would be more of a dynamic quest I suppose so that everyone isn't a double agent at the sametime.

Wow, fantastic and well thought out idea. I like the sound of that.
