I like this game

RumourRumour Member Posts: 114

am i totally alone or do some people still just like to play fun video games. I can't believe how seriously these games are being taken. I have fun on TR. I really don't understand why people are flying off the handle about garriott and how hes ruining the world. come on guys isn't this a site for fans of video games? what happened here? Who let all the long worded geeks in and told them to write these long winded moral and ethical debates? Its not a moral issue. Its a game thing. Fact is, no one will ever creat the perfect game eutopia. and that was never the point. Make your own life your eutopia, and stop waiting for someone to do it for you.

It's pretty good, but I'm hoping they keep adding to it, not just in content, but in gameplay. I sure would like to see an escalation of the war at some point, then it would be really fun. ;)

"long worded geeks" lmao. I can't remember the last ime a game launched without bitches about this or that . So far, it's fun, I'll worry about later when it gets here.

I am really having fun with this game.

I was sick of fantasy games already and this game is really good. It has bugs and some problems, it could use a forum and perhaps more replies from the dev and community crew but the fact is i log in to the game and have a lot of fun blowing trax around.

The quests are very good and "in game".

I am currently on the first month "free one" but i am really thinking on paying up and killing on.

    See you guys in game.

tbh the only thing amusing me atm is the unnaturally positive posts by the fanbois

glad to see you are enjoying the game, in its current state I don't find it worthy of the asking price.

It simply isn't worth the money right now. It might be, in the future, but no way am I supporting a blatantly beta product.

they should've taken a page from the AoC playbook and pushed going live back 6 months in order to deal with the shortcomings and the shallowness instead of relying on the gullibility of their audience, and the audience should've taken the edevs to task for rolling out such an unfinished product

and people, please spare me the 'it's an MMO they all aunch like this' arguement. Would you buy a half-finished car that came with promises of a future compeltion date? How about an uncooked meak at a restaurant (salads don't count), or half an mp3? (if you say yes to the last, I have a number of half-finished songs recorded that i would happily sell you at full price).

face it, it's time the audience told the developers that they are no longer willing to buy into half a product that is accompanied by smoke and mirrors.

You are right Rumour, unfortunately the world is filled with idiots, and every game out there has tons of people that hate it because it doesn't fit their own personal ideals of what a 'good' game should be. While not perfect, TR is fun to play. If someone doesnt like it and wants to be vocal about it, so what, who cares? It doesnt keep me from having a good time everytime I log in.

MMOs I have PURCHASED and played:

    Anarchy Online

    City of Heroes

    City of Villains

    Lord of the Rings Online

    Everquest 2

    Matrix Online

    Vanguard:  Saga of Heroes

    Horizons

    EVE Online

    Shadowbane

    Tabula Rasa

    Planetside

    Star Wars Galaxies

Games that I did not purchase but played on launch:

    DAoC

    Ryzom

    Auto Assault

    Dark and Light

Out of the above 16 other MMOs, which have been in better launch state (content amount, completion, stability and bugs) than Tabula Rasa:

    1.  LoTRO

    2. EQ2

That's it.  2 out of 16.  And EQ2 is actually about the same state as TR.  When I defend TR as delivering on it's promised and lauching well, this is what I use as my comparison point.  If you think that it is "half-finished" or "in beta" as you put it, then you may very well be right.  Just depends on what you are comparing it to.  What ARE you comparing it to?

"I’d rather work on something with great potential than on fulfilling a promise of mediocrity."

    Tried: AO,EQ,EQ2,DAoC,SWG,AA,SB,HZ,CoX,PS,GA,TR,IV,GnH,EVE, PP,DnL,WAR,MxO,SWG,FE,VG,AoC,DDO,LoTRO,Rift,TOR,Aion,Tera,TSW,GW2,DCUO,CO,STO
    Favourites: AO,SWG,EVE,TR,LoTRO,TSW,EQ2, Firefall

Interesting analogies, but I think that they're flawed.  Tabula Rasa is fully functional and can be played - half a car however, cannot be driven; completely undercooked meat cannot be consumed (unless you're okay with getting sick), and half an mp3, well, that might pass but is still questionable.  I think it is uncertain what exactly the standard is for an MMO release.  Clearly there should be no show-stopping bugs or flaws in the core mechanics of the game.  Further,  there should be enough content to entertain players for the base price they payed.  Considering these two criteria, I think that TR is passable in the first.  Yes there are bugs and some broken mechanics, but, I wouldn't go as far to say that they are fatal.  The second criteria, amount of content, is an ambiguous factor.  Exactly how much is enough? There will always be players who speed through these games and trivialize the current content; but does that mean that the game is severely lacking? I'd probably venture a claim to say "no".  It's unfair to judge the content of a game's worth by how quickly a small minority of players can go through it.  It's a sad thing for these players, yes, but probably a non-issue for most of the player base.  If it just so happens that a large majority of the players are finding themselves unsatisfied with the current amount of content, then there is a problem.

The take-home point here is that different players have different play styles and amount of content isn't necessarily something that can be measured in a completely objective manner.  For players who just like to get to maximum level and do the high-end stuff while skipping the story points, CPs, etc etc, well then, TR is probably severely lacking.  For most players though, who are taking their time and pacing themselves, the content level is just fine.  Neither playstyle is necessarily wrong or right, but it is important to realize this when you're trying to represent the game to another potentially interested player.

Also as far as analogies go, let me have a try at one.  Would you pay full price for a completed house that's just missing certain promised amenities - e.g. a swimming pool, study room, etc.? I probably wouldn't mind too much; there's still a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and so it's properly functioning in terms of what a home should have. And yes,  I would be upset that it didn't have the outdoor pool it was promised with, but if it were winter, would a pool make a difference? Probably not.  However, if the house were missing a roof, or had a poor foundation, you're right - I'd never buy it.

As it stands now, I think TR is like a fully completed house as far as basic houses go.  Yes, there are a few cracks in the walls, a missing outdoor pool and study or whatever.  But it's not some broken down heap of bricks and wood like some people are claiming it to be.

Thank you for that. Its nice to see a few true gamers posting and a few less geeks. Lets keep it about fun guys. Thats why I picked up my first NES controller and why I will be an old man playing whatever games come out and some of my old favs. I dont know if anyone remembers a lil MPS game called master of magic. That was and still is a true gem. Loved asherons call and UO. Fact is i love video games. and every one of them is different and someone elses vision. Lets always remember why we played that first game and a smile crept across our faces. Keep gaming fun. To all the light hearted true gamers out there.

Why are you here? Go hang out on the forums of a game you enjoy. One that you think is worth the asking price. Obviously you know nothing about MMORPGs because if you did then you would know not one has ever launch with no issues and none has went without needing content down the road. Please tell me one MMORPG that was perfect in every way when it launched.

I personally thought what i played of the game was pretty good, just way to easy for my tastes. i like games that i need to formulate some sort of insane strategy to survive, and from what ive been hearing for alot of the higher levels, there isn't any of that. I play games to have fun and get a mental challenge, the fun portion of this game is limited because there is no challenge to the game. while i dont want an insane item grind like WoW has, but WoW's instances were great, you need to formulate a strategy for 90% of the bosses in that game (ragefire chasm bosses sucked though lol). the only thing i didnt like about htat game was the item grind though, once you beat those bosses 1000 times it does get boring. im not trying to say this game completely sucks, i'm jsut saying that once they add some challenging elements, i will be more than happy to pay the $15 a month for this game, combat system is awsome, they just need to find a way to make it challenging, its a newer type of system so it may take a little while for them to figure out how to add more of a strategy element to the game.
