Well, all past experiences aside, I have to say I am pretty impressed with the latest expansion.
The last expansion, EOF, was already pretty good, it was the one that made me actually stick to EQ2, although it then become after a while, well, dull somehow.
ROK though, is very nicely done. Haven't done the high level areas, but all my guildies say it is pretty impressive and fun. Certainly the newbie are is fun, almost too short imho. Small, long awaited changes are things that furthemore enhance the gameplay, as e.g. the zoomable map.
This doesn't erase though certain other "problemetic things" with the game, but all in all it is more fun than ever to play for me.
Customer service, well, that hasn't changed much. It has its, well, ups and downs.
Just my five cents worth.

Worth coming back to play a 30 necro and 53 shadowknight?(pvp server)
Playing: Everthing
Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
Not if you're playing on a PvP server. I would rather play backgammon, backgammon involving punching oneself in the face every tenth minute.

wow, i sense much anger in this one
Like to add my 2 cents to your 5 there. Never played EQ2 prior to a couple weeks ago. Started out with the 14 day trial and purchased the everything in a box deal for $39.99. (Fantastic deal I might add, base game and 7-8 expansions including the new one.)
I'm willing to bet that getting in after 3 years of polish and expansions is why this game seems such a true gem in the genera. I cannot find a single thing I don't like about this game so far. I've rolled numerous races/classes so as to start in various areas and ROK is by far my favorite.
Sony......go figure.....

Hairysun, not to discredit your opinion, but the facts are there is: Everquest2 then (3) Adventure Packs which are: Bloodline Chronicles, Splitpaw Saga, & Fallen dynasty but are not expansions. The expansions are: Desert of Flames, Kingdom of Sky, Echoes of Faydwer & now Rise of Kunark.
The Adventure Packs for EQ2 had to be purchased via download or they came free with the SOE Station Total Access Package till Rise of Kunark. Good value i guess for the beginner EQ2ers buying RoK but diminishing value for the Station Total Access Package in some cases.
Desert of Flames & Kingdom of Sky were the first two expansions but were not compilations. Echoes of Faydwer was a compilation having all EQ2 content except the Adventure packs. Now, Rise of Kunark is the first EQ2 "true" compilation.
Good luck to those enjoying EQ2.
I've started playing again with ROK after i quit 1 month after release and i am finding the game very good. I am currently playing a Sarnak Necromancer and i find the class just as good as in other games. I love the necromancer class in EQ1 (level 59) and in Vanguard (level 50) so i thought i may as well try again in EQ2, its perfect.
The starter gear in the Sarnak start area simply owns too which always helps when your a new player and can't afford mastercrafted gear like the veterans alts.
The layout of the start area is so well done i made a Sarnak SK just to do it again - lol.
However, i have not experianced the higher end content but i believe the mobs are slightly overpowered but that will most probably be fixed by the time i get there.
I agree, SOE have done very well here.

WAR is coming, are you prepared?

This game gets better and better and i agree the RoK expansion offers great value having all content thrown into it for the money you cant buy better!!
i also played at release and had to quit because my poor old comp just cried every time i loaded the game i have trialed a few times scince and had a sub about 8 months ago which i had to stop because of money woes, im back now and it seems i will e staying in norrath for a good long time, i find the game great, better then any other mmo out there, and ive tried most of them. along with its glorious graphics and fluid combat system, the game has gone from a rather bloated sub par mmo (at launch) to a really impressive piece of software, im an ex SWG jedi (pre 9) and i thought i would never play another sony title but they have dragged me in again, i just hope they dont do a NGE on eq2 :P
Ohh and welcome back
At Thread Poster:
If you know by past experiences.
Then you'd also know SOE have a habit of doing things right on the odd occasion and then just as quickly, do things very wrong. They will offer you sweet pie before they will snatch it away and shatter your dreams until you cry yourself to sleep.

Ohh and welcome back
thanks for the welcomeive forgotten about the NGE already i left way before that monstrosity was even thought of lol just before the 1st CU was released i dont think that sony will destroy this game though because after 3 years im surprised they havnt done something to scare people away already but with the swelling subs on EQ2 (when was the last time every US server and both EU servers were red?) promise a great few years to come for sony and i wish them the best of luck with it, so all the sony bashers out there take heed..... << ex sony basher myself (with good reason) try EQ2 and be gobsmacked because it truely is a masterfull piece of software and well worth just trialing it, and u wont loose nowt even if u hate it with a passion (which i cant see anyone saying tbh) /end sony ad :P
I have just restarted Everquest 2, played it 2 years back for 2 months and when it first hit store shelves for around 3. but got busy with other stuff and quit. This is just fantastic, the game engine has been enhanced, actually everything has been enhanced. The crafting system is now much better I think, the quests have a better feel to them and I have not had this much fun with an MMORPG in a very long time.
ROK did it great, now the new skeleton system is coming and gonna make armor variety, SOE has made this the best MMORPG on the market. Coming from someone who is unbiased, you can believe what I say.
Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!
eq2 is a pretty good game,
but i would advise to stay to the pve servers
as the game has lots and tons of content
even for sinlgeplay which you would do while waiting for a group.
On a pvp server running around alone and trying soloquests will end in frustration most times.
