Freeze at start-up

in EVE Online
image  It is getting disturbing that since downloading the trial, the computer freezes up when trying to enter the game.  Can I get some suggestions please? image

    Make sure you sound and video drivers are updated to the latest versions. Having too old of version will actually make Eve freeze at the splash screen. I had the same problem until I got the latest video drivers.

    I desparately want to play EVE, but I am having the same problem.  Add to that the frustration of knowing that I have the absolutely latest drivers.  I use an ATI Radeon 9200.  And I know I have the correct drivers.  When I try to start I get the proverbial VPU reset message and the screen just keeps re-setting and re-setting.  I have to do a cold boot each time.  I would be so grateful if anyone knows how to fix this.  Also, I tried downloading the game and re-installing from another site.  No good!  Please help me... :(

    I am having the exact same problem, Badshah. Though, I think it may be related to early ATI cards, for I have heard on 9600s and up, it works fine. I'm currently running an Radeon 9000, which played Eve-Online's beta just fine.... but not Eve, currently.

    Wow... that's bad news.  I wonder why their website plainly mentions Windows XP and ATI Radeon video cards as compatible.  It seems like they must know their is a way to make these work or they would not be mentioned.  Do you know of a game like this one that is an mmorpg?  It reminds me of the old Elite game, which is why I am so anxious to give it a try.  BTW, I have a support call pending.  If I find out anything I will post it here.  :)

    I, sadly, do not know of another MMORPG like EVE, I guess that's partly why EVE is my favorite one. I'll ask around the station (Eve-radio to be exact :P) to see what they can come up with.

    There is a way to fix this. Go to www.ati.com and download the 4.7 drivers, the 4.6, 4.5, 4.4, and 4.3 versions do not work........ silly ati.

    I have the latest driver, which is the Catalyst 4.7.  I uninstalled the previous version, as directed, and installed the new one on startup.  Still no good...  Thanks for the try.

    Have you tried playing with the settings for you drivers. Maybe Eve does not like the default settings. Which would be kinda of odd but it is worth a try. The other possibilty could be that maybe the settings might be messed up from the upgrade and need to be set back to default. I hope this helps out as I do not have an ATI video card to base any better answer on.
