Linear Armor sets do not sound good.
Seems Mythic is listening to the casual playerbase that can't invest some time or patience into some gear.
The problems I see with this from a Power Gamer perspective is:
1. Everyone will have the same gear (lvl/class/wise etc.)
2. No mix and match ability to suit ones playstyle
Bad move on Mythics part. Thanks for dumbing down the loot end of the game you tards.
I will not be playing. I will have more fun playing CSS.

A power gamer would get the gear first and get his renowned level to cap to purchase renowned gear which would be far better than the regular gear.
Power gamers shouldn't worry about having equal gear if they are more skilled than other players because they would still be better.
At least you admit you haven't even tried it and because of the way something SOUNDS, you will not be buying the game.
Ive noticed this as well. with what ive seen and heard your going to start out with a set of armor and advance with that armor as you go through the teirs and the armor will look different in each teir. IF this is true everyone will look pretty much the same and it will get boring haveing the same armor the whole time. I like to have a choice and there will be little here.
Seems they still need it easymodier to suit thier playstyle?
Casual players will not reach the top end renown levels. Also, it isn't about how much time you are logged in for, it goes by how much you contribute to your war effort during that time, especially if we are talking about Public Quests. If Player A is logged in for four hours in a public quest area but does minimal damage, and goes afk, but Player B logs in for fourty minutes and goes balls to the wall during his time, he will be rewarded more for his effort than the leecher.
Welcome to the minority.
Armor sets are not the only gear.
Only the WoW borred and gear whiners will play WAR for any respectable amount of time with this armor set thing in play.
The traditionlists and power gamers will not play if they look like 120,000 other toons.
The hardcore vs casual agruement makes me sick, it's a stupid fight, but that's the last I'll comment on it.
by having present armour sets is will make the pvp scene less about who has the uber gear and more about the skill of the players. This will provide a more fair (and hopefully enjoyable) pvp experience.
As for "looking like everyone else" the armorsets are perticular to you race and class so you will look like the others of you race and class. Given that you character is suppose to be in an army this makes some sort of sense.
Did you never read any of the info about the trophy system or armor dyes? You can dye your gear to different colors and add trophies to your armor in different places to add to your uniqueness. Final Fantasy XI had almost no customization and was a widely successful game.
oooo I forgot about the trouphys
I guess I will have 2 subscriptions then. 1 for WAR for PvP and 1 for WoW PvE
If WoW gets on the ball and adds more PvP content then I will drop WAR
ROFL! How do you spend so many posts sounding like some disgruntled UO junky, and then post THAT! I can't believe you talk that smack and play WOW. LOL. Don't talk about skill or hard core gaming or any of that crap anymore.
D.
I have a feeling that based on population Casual gamers far outnumber the power gamers. Also, I wager a lot of power gamers would not mind being casual.
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I am a powergamer and will be playing/giving this a shot.
This is not about casual and hardcore gamers. This is about dumbing down aspects of the game that even casual players find unnecessary.
tbh id rather have 4 suits per class that look awsome with upto 6 custom trophy slot and painting abilty
then the vast amount of armor that wow or any raid style game offers cause its all ugly

Most would agree? Prove it. Keep to giving your personal opinions and not try to make claims for other people (ie most).

Oh yes sorry, his playing wow he cannot be hardcore, please get a clue.
thank you.
Actally looking at how WAR works it's about 50/50 with the Armor vs skill selection, sure the amour may end up the same in the end (which could be 2/3 years down the line btw), BUT if you look at the skill system it's totally impossible to have access to all the class skills from just one character of that class..
As far as known is that there is no 'repecing' when it comes to buying skill once you have it thats it..THATS what is going to make the diffrence in the game not what 'buffs' your amour may have, but what skills your character will have in the end..
Oh and if the 'they will all look the same' issue comes into comment here with armour, check out the trophies that your character can wear... not everyone would want to wear a Stumpie's head off their belt
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
Next up are the Items Team. After last week’s revelations about the trophy system, this week they have some news about another customisation aspect – armour dyes!
We’ve started applying tints to armors throughout the whole game. Some tint colors are “reserved” – they’ll only be used on specific cool bits of armor. Also, some colors will have specific in-game meaning. All the other colors will be distributed among everything else.
We’ve also been finishing up the details of our dyeing system.
Will players be able to dye their armor? Yes.
Will players be able to “bleach” or revert dyed armor back to its original color? Yes.
We’ll keep you all updated as this system progresses.
As an aside we’ve also been playing around with some itemization systems to make random drops “feel” better to the player. These systems will make it much more likely that a player will be able to use an item that drops.
This is from the lastest public update on the game (release notes on WAR Europe site). The last sentence refers to items that drop. If there are items that drop, then it sounds like there will be more than a few sets of armor available, and with the trophy and dye system, alot more customization.
Edit: The last question in the FAQ on the GOA site asks: Q: Will I be able to customise the appearance of my character and his equipment? A: Yes, the game will allow for a wide range of options to make your character and his or her gear look unique.
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
Man, how many times can you be such a complete dick and someone comeback and be nice to you.
Dont play the game. Please do not play the game. You would be doing us all a favor.
Counterstrike...lawlz
Aw I knew you played WoW.
Do you post there? Cause man that sounded alot like the elite asshats that post on WoW forums.

Actually I want him to play, and please go Destruction! I want to drop you like a bad habit.
Last I looked they are looking at around 8-15 slots for trophies. Then you got dyes. Daoc didn't have that many sets if I remember correctly, and I liked it more than running around looking like a mismatched multi-colored pile of crap.
Always change your signature.
The entire basis of this forum is coming from the GEAR = PWN point of view. I won't deny it, I've played WoW for a long time. I did alot of raiding and I'm covered in epic gear, but it was never really about the gear! It was about killing bosses, HARD BOSSES. The gear was simply a means to an end cause without the gear you couldn't get to the bosses. The simple fact that gear isn't the main focus here is why I'm really excited about this game, it focuses on skill and tactic.
So if by "Power Gamer" you meen "Ganker" or "Twinkazoid" than I'm glad you won't be coming to the WAR community. But then perhaps you enjoy being twice as powerfull as your enimies so there is no chance you can lose? If thats the case why not play a single player game where you can type /GodMode.
nice! very wise decision by the devs.!!
So even newbs wont have to grind years for
equipment to compete and getting a chance to
battle vet and maybe win.
Dont underestimate this, it will help to keep
the game alive and new players coming, 2nd the pvp will do if it is meaningfull.
-Just the idea of timeconsuming raids for
best gear in game isnt in to keep players aboard....hmm.which system will last.
At least they cant make your long grinded gear absolute with a new xpansion ^^
what happened to me just recently in eq2
