Enchanting getting a complete overhaul

bethel9bethel9 Member Posts: 262

Blizzard announced that enchanting was getting a complete "overhaul". I thought there were not enouph enchantments, so I am very happy to hear this. On the other hand, this "overhaul" will probably not come until the next patch, then again it may not come until the game release.

Anyone really into the whole enchanting thing?(I think the enchantments look cool, but wouldnt take it as a trade skill.) Would you take enchanting as a primary trade skill?

Depends. If they turn enchanting into some kind of substantial temporary buff, then I'll definately get enchanting. Buffers make some serious money in these games. That's why Druids are going to be one of hte richest classes in the game with their Mark of the Wild buff. I can already forsee Druidic enchanters as being the richest class in the game if they sell their buffs correctly. All depends on the demand. Especially NIght Elven druids, since they're going to have direct access to the most populated cities in the game.

I eventually plan on becoming an Enchanter. Not for my main character, though. Wouldn't be very accurate RP wise if I went around as a rogue yelling "Who wants a fire enchantment? Anyone? Anyone?" Now it would be better better if I shouted "Who wants to be pick pocketed? Anyone? Anyone?" That is much better.

Addind this edit to save room but I am replying to the guy below me. Anyway, I plan on creating a Warrior one of these days, and I am pretty sure I will go with blacksmithing/mining to be more efficient for my character. I think my Enchanter will be one of my few caster classes. Once again, for the sake of RPing.

I plan on having 3 tradeskills with my main char (I remember reading you can have 3 full tradeskills dunno if this is true anymore) and if enchanting gets better then It will definatly be one of them cuz I plan to make my first char a Human Warrior with Herbalism/Alchemy/Enchanting. I chose herb/alchemy/enchat over the usual pick of mining/blacksmithing or fishing/cooking for warriors cuz its more versital plus alchemy potions rock =D.

Yes alchemy does rock, but to be an alchemist you need the herbs. And herb hunting can be a touph/and or time consuming task. Then again, what isnt? Lol. I think I will go with alchemy/herblism with mage. Minning/blacksmith, and maybe enchanting for a pally. And from there on its a toss up for the rest of my chars. I would continue, but its getting late and I'm getting more lazy by the second. So what I'm trying to say is enchanting isnt that bad, but the overhaul that it will get will help out this trade skill a bunch.

It probabaly wont be hard getting herbs I plan to have the "Find Herbs" button on at all times while im out hunting/questing and harvest every node I come across. Somedays I may just take off from xping and just hunt herbs nonstop. After that it shouldnt be hard to lvl up in alchemy.

Alchemy should be one of the most useful tradeskills in the game. Your items will be in higher demand than a blacksmith's, becasue your items are consumable, while the blacksmith's items will be used by the character until he finds a better weapon. But that also mean they're not priced as much...

Oh well, more people are going to be Blacksmiths anyways. Simple economics will dictate that with high demand and low supply comes high price, while high supply always lowers price... unless the entire world is coalated together on agreed pricing.

I can definitely see Buffers/enchanters camping out outside dungeons selling buffs for people on their way in. Kinda like SWG with doc buffs.

I think I will try to get some permanent buffs on my weapon/armor so I dont need to keep getting more. I think it would be cool to walk around with a sword on fire all the time too.::::28::

Permanent buffs on weapons can be "over written" right? I don't want to buff a weapon permanently and then find a better buff 3 minutes later and then have to buy a whole new weapon just to use the buff on. That wouldn't be cool. Or healthy on my computer's part. *Sends a shifty eyes look to the computer.*

Well currently there are two types of enchants.... Permanent Enchants and Temporary Enchants called imbues(sp) which usually last 30 min-60 mins. You can do both to one weapon or piece of armor so having the enchanting tradeskill would be nice to be able to rebuff your weapons when the imbues run out =D.

Do you need ingridients and recipes to imbue and enchant? You seem to know so I will ask you. Or you can just point me in the direction of the answer.

Well, they recommend you get herbalism if you're going to be an enchanter, so I suppose yeah... you need some ingredients. I'd expect that it'd be less than what you'd need if you were an alchemist, but you're still probably going to need 'em.

    http://www.thottbot.com/wow/?t=Enchanting

All the current enchanting in the game... but its getting an overhaul so it will most likely change but this is a list of the enchants/imbues and the ingredients needed to do them.

This site is basicly a database taken from the game. People who are using the thottbot plugin for cosmos (UI interface for WoW Beta) have their data collected and posted onto this site... IE char stats... loot drops... quests...talents...etc... Very nice site hope they continue it thru retail.

I really hope enchanting becomes more useful than those things... those are so miniscule that it's nearly useless and not worth the effort to get enchantments. 30 extra health? I'm sure that'd be pointless once you got past level 15.

However, that thottbot does lookj really interesting. hehe. I'm glad people are doing stuff like that for the non-beta community. *sigh* If I got in beta I might try stuff like that, but unfortunately I don't know where I'd host certain videos and such. I'd probably need to make more friends with servers and web domains.

edit: I just looked up the Alchemy things off Thottbot and they do MUCH better buffing than enchantments. It's hardly even comparable.

Dont forget that the enchantments are to your WEAPONS and ARMOR... so you get these buffs to you weapons/armor then they apply to you...but yeah they do kinda suck atm which is why they are getting an overhaul =D

thanks for posting that site though. It's the best in-depth site so far about tradeskills, regular skills, and whatnot! I really enjoyed giving it a go-through. Those rogue poisons are quite intriguing as well... *evil grin*

Apparently if you already have a permanent buff on it and cast a new one on the same item a pop up will let you know that doing so will overwrite the first buff and if you want to continue
