I bring this topic 'cause some people seem to be strongly against it in other MMORPGs. Is it ok for a guy to play as a girl in WoW? I would like to know what people think about this. Please State your opinion on the poll and if you would like to comment on it, please say why.
Just a bit of a background on where I stand on this. I've played only 1 MMORPG seriously and right away I found big benefits to being "a hot chick". Other than being hit on once in a while, it really works out well. People would literally go out of their way to help me when they wouldn't do it for any other person. I could sell the same item as other people for more and people would still pick me over everyone else. I guess I see it more as a game tactic. When I was playing SWG, I got about 10 guild offers in a few days between guilds but both my friends (well known throughout the server) got 0.

Well, during the Lineage II open beta I did play as a dwarven girl. Mainly though because the dwarven men were hideous and looked like they were all 50 while all their women looked like they were 20 or something. And quite personally, I figured that I'd much rather look at the girl than the ugly guy for hours at a time.
But I think it'd be fine for a guy to play a girl as long as he told people it was a guy if they were hitting on him. Unless he was using them for money or whatnot. Just don't play along with the hitting on stuff... that's disturbing.
Actually, the hitting-on in computer games is disturbing anyways. But I'm not going to touch that.

Well, the character you see more often than any other in a MMORPG is your own. Given a choice, I'd rather stare a digital female rear-end than a digital male one. Simple as that.

I've never played as a female in a MMO, and yea it'd be fine for guys to play as females if they're up front about it. In SWG I NEVER trusted the female dancers in cantinas because I knew that they were probably men. Although alot of female characters actually are females (swgfaces.com, a surprising number of women, attractive women, are hardcore Galaxies players) there are going to be men who pretend to be females even when confronted about it in every MMORPG. WoW is going to be no exception. Thats ont of the many reasons I'm stearing clear of the Alliance... Yes it's fine if I know that that hot chick is a guy in real life, it's just an avatar. But it's creepy when men play as females and then claim to be a hot chick in real life when asked.(we actually kicked one of the "hot chicks" out of our swg guild when we found out from a friend that he was a man) Idunno maybe it's just me but I think it's creepy unless they admit to it right away.

I think agentcipher hit the nail on the head, some guys "hit" on girls in mmorpg's. I'm not the person to do this mainly b/c I know 50% of the time its a guy person, but girl char. Lets face it, there are girls playing mmorpg's, but dont count on finding alot of them.
ps- Dont hit on girls in games, it weired and its most likly a guy.

Yeah, I think some people aren't very smart about what they are doing...In SWG, I probably got 15-20 proposals for marriage from people i've never even known or talked to. What if I had accepted one as a joke and then told them...
On the other hand, I have known people to get married in real life to their MMORPG sweetheart. I guess as long as you know how to pick them out, you'll be ok...

In all honesty, I'd rather get married to someone I met in real life first. I understand the nobility of falling in love without ever seeing the person and everything, but I'd rather actually know the person. I dunno... maybe I'm just old-fashioned. heh.

I dont see it as a big deal but it would have to be an rp thing because the girls are so ugly in this game. Most chix i no who are guys usually do it for free stuff. But i no im not giving a girl free stuff unless shes HOTT! lol

If you are ever looking for "love" or a girlfriend in a MMO world, this is just for you. You need to log out, exit the game, open your cd-rom drive, take out the cd and break it in half. Then, you need to pick up the sharpest peice and slit your wrists with it.
It worries me how someone can "hook-up" in a virtual world. So, after saying that, I don't care who I am playing with on the other end of the network as long as I can understand their language, and they aren't some bratty kid acting how a typical 9 year olds. I say typical because I have met some pretty intelligent/mature children for their age. Besides that, I never got any respect when I was 9.
Now then, if you are a male and playing a female, I don't think you should be forced to tell anyone. It isn't that big of a deal. If you start getting hit on, you shouldn't tell them then. You should just stop talking to them and avoid them all together. Sorry to be so blunt, but there are a lot of perverts out in the world, so I don't hit on anyone unless it is one of my girl friends playing and even then, its just a joke. And if I do start getting hit on, I just run away. Sometimes even log off and play a different character if they keep following me around.

Dude I played a female dark elf in lineage 2 (Im a guy) and everyone and their mom hitted on me even knowing damn well I was a male IRL. I feel bad for the REAL females who play these games ROFL. As for the hooking up with someone in a game some people dont LOOK for it it just happens. I was "with" females in SWG and L2 who were females IRL but I wasnt looking for a companion at the time. Once I was with them the whole gaming experence changed drasticly. I played with them the entire time we were online together. Just Imagine having someone there to duo with you at all times and actually have FUN with that person! We talked on the phone IRL and what not so yeah its not hard to actually fall for someone you meet in a game.
If you dont wanna "get" with someone from a game dont take it outside of the game PERIOD! Cuz some women in these games DO look for a companion but they are just plain EVIL!!! HAHA
As for guys playing girls... I dont see why they cant its a ROLEPLAYING game! They are roleplaying women and if they get offended by people hitting on them its their own fault =P

I really wouldn't get offended, just horribly creeped out. I'd probably go run away and take a really REALLY long shower with all the lights off, scrubbing away in desperate attempt to get clean.
But I think that some guys probably need that to happen to them so they can finally hear just how rediculous and annoying some of their catch phrases and pick-up lines are. I can't help but laugh at those people who try too hard.
PS. I'm male, but that doesn't stop me from laughing at the losers with their pickup lines. Just in case that confused anyone.
