I hate my razor...

IlliusIllius Member UncommonPosts: 4,142

And since I figure that at least 1 third of the posters here are past their pre-pubescant stage in life and are able to actually grow facial hair I figured I'd post this question here.

I've been thinking about buying an electric razor.  Many people have told me not to and that nothing shaves closer then a blade.  I've also tried one of the electric ones with a foil or whatever you call it and found that it didn't catch some of the "tricky" hairs on my neck.  I was wondering if the rotary ones are any better?  The rotation of the heads I figure would catch most if not all of the hair but don't feel like forking over the money for one.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure of the english terms for some of the different things, but my electric razor has both the normal straight and the foil one. Works great for the difficult areas.

Id most definitely go with a Rotary Head system. Preferably with a progressively finer shave and the ability to be washed in water. I personally use a decent 60 dollar shaver. The advantage to forking more money is they last longer. My first shaver lasted from my first shave at 14 to ironically this year. So 12 years.

I have a rotary head electric one and it does not impress me all that much.  It was given to me by my wife as a gift and I use it mostly because I am lazy.   It works fine for a quick clean up, but for a night out with the wife (or a night in for that matter....bow chicka bow wow) I will shave with the manual.

But then of course the is the lazy manual shave where you just go down your face and neck or the seriously smooth shave where you shave down and then shave upwards.  The crazuest crap ever though is that it is cheaper to buy a new razor each time then it is to buy replacement heads.  I bought one of those new "Titanium" shavers or whatever the hell it was for like 7 bucks and the heads for my old one were like 12 bucks or something.

    Long story short...Manual FTW.

I use a K-bar and a strip of lether to sharpen it...

Actually I use the Mach 3 and it works fine, but I whave while I'm in the shower (makes it easier to shave my head). I have never found an electric that did not miss some spots or yank the hairs out.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

    I use a mach 5, no shaving cream/gel.

Beard trimmer, and a Mach 5 doodad with Gillette gel, even though the blades cost more than the GNP of some smaller countries. Nice, smooth shave, and doesn't eat up my face like cheap ass Bic razors do.

I use one of those self-cleaning Braun electric shavers.  Was expensive as fuck but has lasted for years now.  Im not sure why people say electric doesnt get a close cut.  As long as I shave in all directions with it, I get a shave as smooth as any manual razor I have used.  Plus I have shitty skin when it comes to shaving and manual blades cut my face like crazy.

I use a manual...I don't like those fusion razors either, they pull on my face...mach 3 turbo does just fine.  I don't really care for electric razors, they're expensive and take just as much time as a manual.

I used an electric a few times, I wasn't really satisfied with the result. I just use normal ones.

I just got this Phillips shaver, has its own built in skin conditioning dispenser.  The three heads all independantly pivot also.

    Best shaver ive ever had.

i use two razors.. one of those 5 bladed monsters to cut through the bulk, and a sensor excel for under my nostrils, corners of my mouth.. the detail work. i only shave only in the shower about once or twice a week, and find this combo does a great job.

I was thinking of giving this thing a try.

I just gotta go and see how much it is and stuff... Anybody got one of these?

Edit:  I just looked at that norelco posted above and I'm thinking about it.  The review says that having the option of either wet or dry puts the norelco ahead of the ARCitech.

From my own personal experience, electric razors tear my face up, especially on the neck. I've tried the tri-head and regular electric, mainly because I'm a lazy piece of shit and I'd prefer to take the easy way out, but DAMN electric hurts. It feels like each hair is being plucked out, and the shave is laughably ineffective. Ive found that using a hair trimmer like they use at the barber shop works almost as well, and doesn't irritate half as bad. Just don't put a guard on it and it'll get you a decent shave.

That being said, my mach-whatever three blade manual works a lot better and hurts a lot less.

Having facial hair is not as great as you might think.  When I was between 14 and 15 years old  and my mustache started to slowly show I was all excited about having to shave.   Now  10 years later I'm tired of it.  I hate shaving, it pisses me off.  If it wasn't for the annoying remarks of family and some of the women I know I'd just let it grow.  Also when it gets to a certain length it starts to annoy me so I get rid of it... but it comes back again and again.

I'm starting to think I'll just have my face lazered and get rid of it all for good but that sounds like a last ditch effort.

Thats basically the same as what i posted except this one is self cleaning, not worth the extra bucks considering you can just run it under a tap.  But as i mentioned, best shaver ive used.
