What game content?

DirossDiross Member Posts: 179

Ok, other than running around different planets surfaces and killing Bane (offense and defense), doing limited crafting (currently), and constantly watching your back for enemies, what ELSE is there to do in this game?

I'm talking about the long haul (12-36 months) down the road type of game play vision...what will we do differently then compared to what is being done today. I mean, c'mon...how fun will it be to kill your 100,000,000 th Bane?

There should be a place where people can just hang out, relax, and socialize away from the battlefield to rest from the constant incomming Bane attacks.

Even after the next patch is implemented, what will there be to do differently than what a lvl 20 character is doing now?

Just random thoughts about the current game content.

Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa.

    Good question

Truly there is not enough content in the game to last more than 6 months (perhaps overstatement even)

But give it a break. The game just came out !

Suppose they do like TURBINE does and keep evolving the game ?

There is so much POTENTIAL to TR it is insane!

    1. More planets (comming)

    2. Space ships ?

    3. Mechs and wehicles (coming)

    4. PVP PLANET !!!!! (comming)

    5. Housing, guild halls (comming)

    6. Repaired crafting

    7. Playable alien races (comming)

    8. Playable BANE enemy races

    9. Factions

    10. More content !

    All in all.

I see no problem. There is a lot of shoulder space for growth (which can not be said for some other games)

Let just hope Garriot comes back from space so he can continue work

dont know what there is to do 12 months from now ... not too sure that all of us will still even be here

and really , why does it matter ?

Having fun today? then play till its not fun anymore.

If its not fun now, go away and try again later when it looks fun to you.  Too many people worry about what am i going to be playing in a year .. really does it matter right now if you are having fun right now?

Its a game not a engagement.

Its not some big deep guilty pleasure to have fun now and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

15 $ a month for fun until it stops being fun .... thats not even 2 movie tickets, nothing to worry about if you only have a great time for 9 months then move on or even only 4 months.

The funny thing about this is that, I was hanging out in a Tavern (Concordian Divide) and just getting situated. There was Hawaiian Music being played in the background and I can hear the sirens go off in the distant.

Then we had some renegade thrax come into the Tavern (I kid you not). Unfortunately there were only 3 of us to witness this, but it was funny as hell. Needless to say, they were no threat.

Now I dont know if they just spawned outside the tavern or if they found there way into the base, but if was crazy even if it wasnt suppose to happen.

I understand your concerns, but hey as others have said are you having fun now? If so, play till it's not fun anymore and come back when you see something you like. As Lobotomist said they are already working on new content and I'm sure there will be different mobs implemented on some of these new planets. As for your staement about killing your 100,000,000th Bane, aren't all game like that? At least to me after a point any and all games have this sort of point unless the game evolves to keep you interested with content updates and expantions. These are just my thoughts.

What kind of content, let see.

    1. Colony (crafting)

The idea of in the story is that humans escaped from erth, because the human race was exterminated by these aliens. So, we are in new planet, but it's not that friendly. Same aliens are here too, but the locals are heping us. So we are in war again. How ever we seem to miss ability build stuff, like colony would do. Like houses, military bases, defence structures and so on. I don't mean everywhere, but in define areas where the colony is living.

We need ability build defence walls, military bases, energy sources, mechs, vehicles, airplanes, speceships and harvest and farming the land for materials.

Basicly we need other kind crafting possibility, than just enchance gears.

    2. Combat (reason)

The combat at the moment is nicely done, but it has no meaning except level the character. If it doesn't mean something, even how fun it's first, it will become booring. So they need to improve it as giving player reasons to fight. The outposts are good example to correct direction, but it's not enough. Here is some examples.

If the zone map would work like this:

    h o o o o

    o o o o o

    o o o o o

    o o o o o

    o o o o b

h, is the main base of human operations and b, is main base of banes. The o:s are outposts in battlefield, like territories where the war is. So the idea is own as many as possible territories in the zone. This happens by controling outpost in territory. The idea is that controled territory affects the spawn system in that territory, outpost owners npcs activity is stronger and opposite npcs spawn weaker in that area.  So all spawns happens in h or b or controled o's. So, the other side tries to take out the outpost to get control the territory. If also every territory would have some unique benefit, it would make it more wanted. So the benefits the owning the territory should be alluring to make the outpost or the territory wanted.

Also the strenght of the npcs could be controlled like this:

    Base outpost strenghts are:

    - Main base = 20 (h or b)

    - Outpost next to main base = 10

    - Other owned outpost = 5

    - Outpost next to enemy main = 1

Every same side outpost near by, will add +1 to it's own strenght.

This is just number about how strong or how many npcs are in that outpost and how strong they influence are in that territory. So, more and stronger troops in the outpost where number is bigger. You can get You own outpost stronger to take control outpost next to this territory. Basicly it simulate situation that supply lines gets weaker as more far You are in You own base operation.

If that was inside the zone situation, then You can use same stuff to zone it self. Like zones it self are the "outposts", so the higher level zones are the "main base" of bane and lower levels are "main base" of humans.

    3. Exploration (secrets)

We are in new world with something magical. So we look logos, but wheres the buzzles and secrets, like solving something could give player some benefit. I don't want to get new ready define powers, because I grid for levels. I want to get them because I solved mystery or founded it in some where.  I want to learn the stuff by exploring the world full of secrets. Oh, going in there is dangerous, but's what is there? So more minigames, buzzles and something worth of solving. I want to find the zen master to teach me, how to do stuff.

Uhm.. I can some the game up in about two words:  carebear content.

"clan war"?  What a joke.  Might as well be no pvp and let all of you who can't hack pvp blow away npc opponents over and over again into redundancy.  It would have to be the last MMO on the planet before I'd waste my money buying it alongside paying the 14.99 until actual pvp comes out.

Which is rare in most MMOs today.

Like most Sci-Fi mmos, they're destined to die.

Well.. there is something like a thousand storyline missions in the game that help you explore the story of the game.  So you might want to look into doing some of those.

Otherwise, i see from your sig that you've played many other MMOs.   Aside from SWG (let's not talk about SWG), what specific features did any of those game have that you would like to see in TR?

You say you want to be able to go to a bar and socialize.  Why is it that you cannot do that in TR?

There are bars (numerous).  There is music in those bars.  There are bartenders in those bars.  There are people relaxing in those bars.  There are dancing emotes for you to use.  What is stopping you from going to the bar and socializing?  I remember AO had some crazy wild parties... all that was needed was a place to hold em and /disco emote.

I'm not saying you don't have a valid point in there somewhere, but be mnore specific.

Where did you hear this? The last I heard they had no intention of adding player housing. Did they change their minds? Do you have a link to some info on this?

So, to continue this analogy, you are treating TR like a one-night-stand?

Since TR is a MMORPG the folks at NCSoft and the devs would prefer to get a long term commitment from their players.  The real life-blood of a successful MMORPG is provided by the players who make that long term commitment to the game.  I'm pretty sure we all know and accept that obvious fact.  But most of the posts in this thread don't deny what the OP is saying.  They do, however, suggest we treat TR like that person we pick-up in a bar for a one-night-stand.  I'm sure that's not what NCSoft is hoping for. ;)

It took me less than a month of play to get bored with TR.  While the game is LOTS of fun when you start playing it gets old fast for many people.  It's not random that NCSoft is going with a 3 day free trial, as 3 days is just enough time to get totally hyped about the game.  I like making a long-term-commitment to a MMORPG.  I like developing my characters over time.  TR doesn't do that for me.

Well with 3 posts under your belt, I dont even know why I am replying.. But...

The other Sci-Fi I recalled being axed was Earth and Beyond, what other Sci-Fi have been canned?

We still got Anarchy Online, Eve Online and SWG. And they been around for quite some time now.

If TR is too carebear for ya, head over to Eve Online for your intense PvP action. Unless you like Lineage 2.

Guesstimate of what is to come:

Clan owned CP (vision stated by NC) (could be similar to player "house")

Mech bodysuits (prolly in January 08)

    Factions

    Vehicles (vision stated by NC)

End Game Content (has to be, game is not complete yet)

    Revamed tradeskills (confirmed - ongoing)

All in all the game has a really good basis for some VERY interesting new features. I am looking forward to see where this game is headed.

No I dont think so.  They are saying enjoy it in its current form and see what happens later on.

If you meet a nice girl (or guy) do you immediately start thinking about what will keep you interested in this person 2 years later?

No rather you enjoy the time with that person now and if in a few months you fall in love with them THEN comes the long term commitment...

I don't understand why people need to worry about 36 months from now, right now..

You really spend your time worrying about stuff like this?

Lets worry about 3 year in 3 years.. I worry about my enjoyment of a game on a day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment basis. The moment I feel like this game is no longer fun I will quit. No fanfare, no melodramatic forum threads, no grand proclamations.

I'm not investing in a mutual fund, or purchasing a sportscar, I am playing a game. I have much more important long term concerns. I envy those who have the emotional real estate to worry about stuff like this.

I played three days on a trial key and here's my first opinion.

    1. I loved the graphics and smooth play on my pc.

    2. I didn't really care for some of the combat abilities and thought they were kinda useless as I pursued the path to guardian. Almost made lv 15.

    3. Ammo! Ack I burned up so much ammo all the time that any profits I had made from killing stuff and selling it was obsolete.  The guardian class can use staffs at lv 30 I don't see why you can't have that option earlier.  I hate games that make any ranged class or weapons a major chore getting or buying ammo.  I did make some crafted ammo a few times but I think after the recipe is used you have to find another.  If you retained that knowledge to make ammo I missed it somehow.

Over all I thought TR was pretty good but I personally think it was released too early with alot of things missing.  For the cash it takes to buy the game and then pay per month there is not enough classes, abilities I like, ranged or mele options, options for vehicles or riding an alien type mount etc to justify the costs.  If and when they add a free content update i might try it again.

This is not a rant or TR bashing post, I like the game but I'm more of a Fantasy mmorpg fan than a Sci Fi fan to begin with.  Planetside and Coh/Cov were my favorite Sci fi games.

I'm assured every MMO player likes to think about the future and being able to see themselves playing in the future and having something to look forward to.  I'm sure there is some truth to people saying "I play for today," but honestly when we pull a good item, or unlock a certain ability we've been working towards or achieve a goal only to look forward to the next task tommorrow it all falls into the future of a game.  When an MMO is made its not really made to be played for today (albeit every day is supposed to be fun)...because it takes alot of invested time to create develop, enhance, become skilled, etc.  Successful MMO's are founded on players who are there for the long haul, players who look forward to the future and are excited about what is coming, that's what keeps that monthly subscription going, so no amount of posts is going to convince me that not every MMO player doesn't play for the future because you do to some extent or another, and frankly TR's future is looking dull atm.

And not every MMO player plays "for the future" as well.

I'm not playing TR cause I know it will be captivating me 12 months down the track.  I am playing it cause it is captivating me RIGHT NOW.

I recently shelved Eve Online cause I have been playing it a long time and feeling a bit burned out on it.  TR is filling the gaming gap for me and is doing it well.

I still have an active LOTRO account but I haven't played it since TR came out.

This doesnt mean that I will forever leave Eve Online and stick with TR.  Nor will I drop LOTRO for TR either.

It means for now I am having the most fun with TR and will probably go back to the other games when I get a bit bored with TR.

To be honest I have no idea what game I will be playing 12 months down the track...

It does mean I am wasting my LOTRO subscription in the meantime as I'm not playing it.

I'm keeping it in case I want to go back but if after a few more months I don't then it will get cancelled as well.

It's all about what game am I playing RIGHT NOW!!!!

I do exactly the same thing. And I have dozens of friends who do exactly the same thing.

I'm not certain why some folks have such a hard time understanding that some people actually play these games to have fun.. not in anticipation of having fun in some ambiguous long-term scenario.

For those 'not finished' thinkers i'll put it to you this way, you should never play anything on release anymore, as even singleplayer games are getting in the habbit on 'release now, patch later'.. even console titles are starting to do that downloadable content is avilible for them (see: asassin's creed for ps3 for example) the only difference is MMOs are generally playable up until a point as long as you don't power your way thru them...

So unless you can accept that and enjoy games for the enjoyment now, don't buy anything until 6 months AFTER released

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
