Wanna come back but...

bobafett573bobafett573 Member Posts: 50

I've had a long history with eve.  i did 3 trials before finally buying the game...and then stopped after the free month.  why?  i really hated running npc missions cuz they were just simple warp in, destroy, and leave missions every time.  i tried mining but it was really really boring.  i finally tried science/research and that was kinda fun...except i couldn't do much.  I am at a loss of what MMO to play.  I'm sick of fantasy MMOs and so my choices are quite limited.  I wanna come back to Eve but I'm discouraged by one thing...I don't know what to do.  Like I can't do pvp because i only have like 1.5 million sp, no one needs recipes for projectile ammo (lol), and mining is a better sleep aid than an activity.  Can anyone help guide me on how to actually get going in the game?  I've done the tutorial and I know what the game is capable of but I just don't know where to start given that 90% of people have more sp and experience playing than me!  All help here is greatly appreciated cuz right now I'm bored out of my mind with no game to play!

Yes I agree....the PVE is a major sleep aid and since you really need to make isk you don't have allot of choice. Have you thought about EVE University? The trick IMHO is to find a small to mid-size group of people with the same basic start-date who are on line at the same time everyday. You also need a few experience players in the mix. This often happens in starter corps that dissolve and join bigger corps as players get more comfortable with the game ( this often leads to alliances as well). But to start out, a group of noobs learns to make isk first, then slowly moves in to low security space for PVP. When Its done like this, mining ops and mission running are not the rule, but are done between market transaction (selling large quantities of Mega to other corps or through sell orders), or excursions in to low-sec for a little fun. If your small corp works together and does well they will be gobbled up by a bigger corp looking to expand, and this will take you deeper into 0.0 space.(If your small corp does well, you can sell it to a bigger one). I think the most important thing is to spend some time looking for a corp you feel can help you and that you can grow with. It really is a team sport. www.eve-careers.com might help.

This is the perfect situation to put forward an excellent parody song from Curzon Dax: Noob, you'll have an e-peen soon

It's one of a score of Curzon Dax's EVE-related parody songs, and is really hilarious. Links to the rest of his parodies can be found from this EVE-O forum thread.

And yeah, being a noob and paying your dues is a painful time, and EVE's not the easiest of games to start. PVE is booo-ooring once you know what you're doing, mining alone is definately not fun by any measure, and there's not that much you feel you can do.

However, find a decent corp, and that'll all change. You'll get help (both in resources and teaching), and you'll figure a whole new way to look at the game.

What you have to remember at all times with eve is that it is a Sandbox. One of the only ones out there, which means you have to find your own content it won't find you.

Finding a good corp/clan is essential.

     EVE is great BUT:

You have to have the skills, I recommend finding a pvp role you like, then not worrying about playing until you have the skills to fully run a ship that can do the role you choose.

YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE A CORP

Eve is a deadly game, its hard to learn, and you never can master it, so get a great corp to join and go kill each other. Dump a 15 dollar pop into a game time code and make 200million ISK off of it, just once, that will get you started.

I play it, I love it, but I also let it go when it runs me into the ground. Nice thing is, you can update your toon with out doing battle, so give it a break for a month, but keep the game and do all the skills. Everytime you come back your toon is better than before. TO me thats the best. I can dump the damn game, pay 15 bux for the month, and when I come back, my toon is like twice as good. but let me repeat

YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE A CORP

no solo here, thats just freakin boring.

I am the same got into eve 2 times in the past but made a real go of it now and have been able really get going, purchasing a good character with ISK I have saved up on the Character Bazaar forum

Only thing is I am corpless, need to find a good corp to get into with good 0.0 access and easy access to empire and active members involved in PvP alot

Thats Eve there, Life in the beginning is sht. Theres nothing else to it.

What you have to do is stop soloing it, this isnt a fantasy based game where content keeps you involved all the way through, this isn't a hack and slash, where farming makes you "better", richer yes but not better. And the Number one thing, this is NOT solo friendly. Doable, yes, enjoyable? Heaven's no.

Find a corporation, anyone, in the area you fly in, on the time you are and you will be having10x as much fun. Having people to talk to in eve is the best thing. without them its just a pretty screen saver. Also without a player run corp, 0.0 is a no go zone, "Newb corp" players are a kill on site by every 0.0 alliance/corporation in existence. Unless you want to be that "logofski" Raven in Pure Blind I have been trying to catch for the past fortnight. I swear he's macroed to log off as soon as some one enters local...

Anyway, as I have stated, eve sucks solo, yes you can do it and you might prefer doing everything by yourself, but without friends in game there is no point.

Join a corp, see how fun it is to go in a gang, and have fun.

So true what binjuice said, but the same applies for most MMORPG's I played WoW for 2+yrs raiding with an amazing guild, I would not have lasted 6 months in WoW without the guild. MMORPG's are made to play with people, that is their core essence, you may as well play single player games like Freelancer etc if you don't want to get into a corp etc

To the OP and others that have similar experiences:

Join Eve University.  This is a corp dedicated toward people just like you.  They help new players by offering many weekly courses in just about everything from mining and exploration to Pvp.  They even have a sister corp in 0.0 called The Graduates that further train players in Pvp and 0.0 operations.

If you are stuck and have no idea what direction to take and/or having trouble finding a corp I would suggest Eve University.  Go here to sign up or just check them out.

    Step 1:

    Come back to EVE

Step 2: Get rid of preconception that 1.5 million SP characters can't PVP.  That's downright false.  I was involved in 0.0 PVP at that point in my EVE career and, while I wasn't breaking any records, managed a positive kill-to-death ratio just fine.. I think it was 2 or 3 to 1 actually.

    Keys:

Get in a solid corporation.  If you're just coming back now I recommend EVE University till you get your feet back under you.  Learn anything they have to teach.  Then, if you want to get into PVP contact Agony Unleashed and take a few of their PVP courses (they are quite good).  They are an excellent school for those who want to learn to PVP.

Now that you have the basics covered either stick with EVE-U or Agony Unleashed or join any number of other player corporations out there.  There are many.  Try to join one with 0.0 access if you can.  Empire corps are ok if you like PVE but I think you've already pretty clearly stated that for you it's just not the 'endgame' you want.  So look for a corp with 0.0 access if not territory of its own.  Join them, continue to learn, get in on fleet operations and you'll quickly learn that not only can you contribute successfully in PVP but you can actually excel in it if you give yourself a chance.

    Good luck!  And Welcome back.

Look, I read all the responses above and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet:

JOIN A CORP!!!  Come on people!  Get with it!  That is BY FAR the best advice for newer players.

(yes, I know it's been said already...  best advice for noobs, hands down)

Yes yes, similar story here as well.  Tried to solo Eve the first 3 trials I played.  Finally bought myself a 3 month pass so i'd HAVE to play longer than the trial.  Still tried to solo it, even made my own corp!  Yeah, 3 months later and I canceled again.  This last time I restarted that char and quit my solo corp and found a small corp to get into and haven't looked back, that was 4 months ago.  Find a corp!

You can PVP with low sp and be succesful. Don't worry.

    Check this out: http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=640798&page=1

And that's only solo. In gang you can always find a role to fill.

The pve is boring as shit. I only managed to grind up to level 3 and then gave up that part of eve. I moved into 0.0 when I had 800k skillpoints and started pvp'ing.  By 850k sp I was orbiting a dreadnought, nos'ing it and watching my corpmates blowing it up. Here's my tips,

    1) Join a corp. Don't join a little crappy one. You want a medium sized highly active corp, one where its not too big that you don't know everyone and can learn lots and make new friends. Be social and chat lots. I got lots of free expensive stuff for being social.

    2) make sure they're in 0.0

3)Make a nice bit of cash ratting (shooting npcs) in 0.0. If you don't have skills. Follow people around in your corp and ask if you can take the loot and salvage. Alot of people that are ratting in battleships cnat be bothered scooping loot. You can make alot of money that way. Youu can melt all the loot down into minerals and sell them.

    4) make an alt trading character to speculate on the market. You don't need to start a new account to do that. Just use one of your empty slots. You can get a decent trading character to buy and sell in one station without having to train up skills.

5)Buy lots of new shiny ships and then conquer the universe.
