Lineage 2: The 1st Throne: The Kamael Overview

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

At the end of last week, MMORPG.com's Laura Genender visited the NCsoft studios in Austin to take part in a tour of the upcoming free expansion to Lineage 2, The 1st Throne: The Kamael.

Last Friday I visited the Austin offices of NCSoft to tour and preview Lineage II’s upcoming expansion, The 1st Throne: The Kamael. This new, free (as always) expansion is the largest in Lineage II history, including a ton of high end content, and a new player race and starting area. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

A History Lesson

NCSoft started our tour off with a slide-show history of Lineage II. The first expansion, Chronicle 1: The Harbringers of War was released over three years ago and opened up the original 5 castle sieges: Gludio, Dion, Giran, Oren, and Aden castle. This expansion introduced Antharas, the fierce land dragon and one of the first raid targets of Lineage II as well as auctions on the first clan halls in several major cities.

Chronicle 2: The Age of Splendor brought us the Monster Race Track and arena, a small area reachable by any town where players could gather for monster races or small arena battles. More raid bosses entered the scene – Baium and Zaken – and the manor system awarded castle owners more control over their land and the people hunting on it.

Read it all here.

Indeed; I'm going to give Kamael a try for sure.  I'm a little worried about the gender/class segregation - I want to be a female Kamael but I don't like ranged fights ;) hopefully there's something melee I can get into!

This update sounds amazing, can't  wait

This is probably the BEST time for a new player to join, seriously because many people will be making Kamaels so it shall be easier. Even if you do not make a Kamael it will be easier because once you get in 20s, you will have many others to party with. So I suggest joining if you are interested and you do not have to make a Kamael to enjoy .

Seems like a very nice expansion!

Too bad once you level a bit L2 gets 100% grindy and boring.

I hope this adds something to the game though.

The most important the forget as usual.. Ban the damn bots, that is the only way to make a good community and make people want to come back L2.

Isn't L2 dead to casual, normal player due the all the bots?

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

Thats the case with most MMOs now a days. Bots are not exclusive to L2. Sad but true. You just have a bunch of people who harp on it with L2 on this site.

Yes all mmo have bots but lineage2 have much much more bots that all the others mmo. I dare to say that on some servers there are more bots that players, no BS. And the worse of it all is that ncsoft doesn't give a damn about it. In C1 people get togheter and fight the bots, now 95% of the community use the walker or buy adena online.. What is the point of playing a lame game like that with a stupid community like that.. I rather play  microsoft hearts online that return to L2.

When was the last time you played?

L2 by far does not have the most bots. Its safe to say WoW holds that title now.

I like Lineage 2 , is an awesome game, but with bots its not playable. NCSoft need to change this situation ! damn they want to have many accounts just for money!   I hope    AION will no have bots ! I like WoW and i play WoW now from this reason they no have bots ! and the Auction House is awsome, you dont need to stay online to sale something, i hate to stay an do nothing just for sale.

Ya there are bots but if you think that 95% of people bot, now that is just horrible statistics. I still see tons of players asking for groups, etc. and I have yet to bot. Even in the lower levels, I see raid groups, etc. instead of botting. Of course there are some people that do bot but it is just like any other game.

Yes, is true, but if you play without boting you will risk to have lower lvl items on you and that is an horrible situation on PvP / PvM , it's not fair   To be more exactly , the bot system is for collecting items (more than 90% of cases), not for lvl-ing, that is the situation on L2 !

The thing is, bots have very little effect on other games like WoW, they have almost no dent in the actual playing of the game. Money = Vanity items all the good items come from PVP rewards or raids which are soulbound (untradable). Even selling accounts is no big deal cause unlike L2, gear doesn't define if you will kill someone or not, just level/skill. While gear does hamper/enhance, its not a defining factor.

So...that makes it "ok" in WoW vs L2?

Thats called a double standard. (or hypocrisy)

What it does is take a competitve game (L2) and shifts the competition from PvP to "Who can get the most subscription to bot-farm the best gear".   Its not  a double standard btw.  WoW power  = soulbound.  Different, see.

Oh I see, so I guess I can boot up a bot in WoW and its all good and then go on L2 and bitch about the bots.

Thanks for pointing out the differences.

It's not all good, clearly you're too stubborn to debate with intelligently. Have fun arguing for arguings sake.

But I do have a last quip, bots in all cases are bad, I was just commenting that bots in WoW as compared to other MMO's have very litte impact on the game itself compared to other MMO's who rely so dearly on their faulted, gear dependent economics. Now it'd be nice to have a game where everything is run by the economy and the economy is run by the players but one has to expect something like this will come into fruition, unless developers come up with better ways to deal with botters don't expect to have that kind of freedom.

There is no "debate" about botting. Its not good in any game. The "impact" isn't the point. It affects everything somewhere down the road.

L2 gets kicked in the teeth on this board constantly for a problem that exist in all MMOs and in some cases, worse in other games. Just because the bots are running in instances in WoW doesn't mean it has any less impact. It effects the economies and yes it does effect PvP in WoW also. The main difference is WoW's PvP has no teeth is if you can live with being beat up by alt twinks all the time who have the hundreds of gold to by overpriced gear, its no problem because there is no real impact or penalty where in L2 there is. The end result is the same, the non-gold buyer loses. (and the botter wins because more and more people caving in and buy it to compete)

Botting is an issue that has been around since these games started. I remember back when there were only 3 mainstream MMO's (AC., UO, and EQ) I played AC at the time and bots were an issue there even back then. We just called them "unattended combat macros" nothing has changed, its gotten worse in ALL games now. Ebaying of items and money has been around since the start. I know you can't put it on Ebay anymore but if you do a search, you will find hundreds of seller sites and most catering to WoW. Don't tell that is NOT effecting the average non-gold buying player in WoW because thats a load and you know it. So don't get up on your high horse about an "intellegent debate".  There is nothing to debate.

People who want to harp on about bots in L2 really need to open their eyes to whatever game they are playing. All that gold on sale at I*E and other sites comes from somewhere and its not harvested off of trees.

The volume of botting / farming in a game like WoW with its hundreds of servers has to be on a scale unlike anything else out there.
