Get the Ps2 if you don't have that much money to spend. Get the PC if you have a nice fat wallet for upgradesimage

    PC - better Graphics
    Better controls (personal preferance)
Can look up stuff on the net real easily... (admitadly u may have a PC next to the PS2 which you could use.. but that envolves movement)
No lag unless ur near playstation users - never got serious lag at all tho
    Not as expensive to buy
Can have Mp3 list going in the bg (I suppose u could with the playstation on and the pc running aswell... but u only have to have one thing switch on if ur playing on the PC)
If your a TV lover.. you can play whilst watching TV (unless u use ur TV as a moniter)

    PS2

    - LAGS... and makes other people lag....

    - some people don't bother getting a keybored

    - More expensive.. but you do get a HD with it.... but i hate it when PS2 users play that don't buy the KB.. they have to use an onscreen one and therefore it takes them about 10 mins to even type a one worded answer and half the time they don't bother speaking because of it.

    - To be honest.. i can't be bothered to write anything ore down... just buy the PC versian hehe

I have both.  And i find that use the ps2 version more often.  I like sitting on my couch =).

It'd doesn't lag as much as people say.  A keyboard is a MUST.  Pretty much any usb keyboard will work.

The controller is nice for Melee classes, but if you are a mage use the keyboard =)

you forgot the option C: Neither!

    Here are your choices:

    PS2= more expensive
    PC=Cheaper
    Both with monthly fees

In 3 months from now If you purchase the ps2 version you will want to shoot yourself for wasting an extra chunk o change on it!

PC would be the cheapest and least bit of a headache at the end.

Final Fantasy XI is just a huge selfish baby's level grind game

and um. you seem to be confused.

Pc graphics are much better than the ps2 graphics!

  • I would say go with the PC, the controls may be a bit awkward but their easy to get used to. While the Ps2 is more casual, it takes up a TV you could be watching during downtime it you are unfortunate enough to get in a "all business no play" group.

Also the PC version is more customizable so it can get better framerates if used right.

Either one is great for a great game, but the PC version is a better buy.

oh just fyi there are online guides to convert an xbox controller to a PC gamepad, which you can use for FFXI. If you get a wireless Xbox conroller and convert it, you can play as if you were on the ps2 but without having to shell out the extra cash.

I would say the only time you should conside getting the Ps2 version is if you already have all the peripherals.

Basically theres factors in the versions u want.

PC: Advangages: Better Graphics, the game is cheaper.

Disadvantages: Takes a while to turn on comp. You might need to upgrade comp which costs $.

Ps2: For Lazy people and just turn on and your there (advantage)

The game itself cost double of PC version. U lag and junker graphics.

Just use these factors to decide! image

What is all this lag you talk about on the ps2 version ?  I have the ps2 version and it doesn't lag much at all.  The only place it really lags is in Jeuno near over crowded auction house. Other than that it has good performance. In fact i could say that the ps2 version has less lag then the PC version on ocassions. (not compared to the best computer on the market, but compared to what the average user has.)

And i agree a little with the graphics, but it's not that bad.  The only big difference graphics wise is the resolution.  And with good TVs that is not an issue anyway.

It's not that the PC version is better then the PS2 version. They target different audiences.  If you have a so/so computer and don't have the serious cash to upgrade get the ps2 version.  If have a nice computer then get the PC version.  There is many other reasons to get one version or the other.

Don't forget with the purchase of FFXI for ps2 you get the hard drive. Thats where most of the money is.  A few games already out make use of it, and there will be more. (Resident Evil Outbreak uses it, GT4 will, SOCOM II i believe has support for it, and more to come)

Anyways, whatever version you choose,  Have fun in FFXI.

Only place I lag is near the south AH in Winhurst of everywhere I have been. I get occasional seconds of lag other times but it is for a second or two and is gone. The lag I experience near the AH though is generally a menu takes some time.

I have seen ppl though who look all jerky when I see them moving.  I am not having any problems but I was in a group that I was staying with the leader and kept falling behind rest of group because he was jerking. I have really enjoyed playing on the PS2 because I am not lagging.

I think PS2 is better choice. With a keyboard and ability to sit on couch that makes it much more relaxing to play is my vote.

If you don't have FFXI yet, I would get the PS2 version of it.  It may be an extra $50, but chances are you will find yourself wanting a harddrive anyway, if you play other PS2 games...

If you have a good computer, then PC would be a better choice just for gameply then.  It would look alot better, though you probably don't get to sit on your couch... image

Personally, I think it would be great to get FFXI for PC and only because it is a little more convenient that the game is at the end of a keyboard and mouse rather than a joystick and controller. Whatever floats your boat. Also- is the PS2 online or something? That would be wierd....

I am also thinking about playing this game but it is a little expensive.image

you can play with a keyboard and mouse with the PS2 version of ffxi.

standard usb keyboards and mice will work.

Wow! That's crazy! Does it plug into the PS2? Or do you need a cable? Is it online? Like an X-Box or something?

You can use a usb pc-ps adapter on your computer and use a ps2 or ps controller on your computer...

That takes away the "easier to move" part from the ps2.

Basically, if you got a good comp that can run FFXI smoothly on pretty high settings, then you should go for the pc version (also buy the USB PC-PS Adapter, only $10 or something)

If you got a crap comp and can't handle the high settings for FFXI then get the PS2 version.

I have it for both PC and PS2... the only thing tha the PC has going for it is that it looks better. I don't know who said it but no you do not lag around PS2ers I party with them all the time. I don't even know how you can tell if there PS2ers or not, maybe you comp just sucks. Anyways both have there bad and good points... but heck its FFXI as long as you have it thats all that really matters.

get the PC Version becuase of these main reasons

    1) This is where online games belong (in my opinion)

    2) It keeps you from haveing to ask in the game on how to do "Insert Question Here" on the PS2 Controler

    3) It allowes ya to still play your PS2 while you are patching or even playing FFXI while your waiting for some dork or just waiting in general.

I personally have the PC version and it works just fine. I dont have the PS2 version because i dont have a PS2 (GC all the way!) The PC version has good graphics, and having a mouse helps alot. Plus you can wait while waiting an hour downloading a patch looking at stuff on the internet while you wait. I have almost NO lag (and i live in Panama), so lag isnt a problem with me, although lag is caused by your internet provider, what kind you have, and how good ur USB cable is plugged into ur Compy/ PS2.

This is kind of late but get the PS2 one because you can lay on your couch/bed and when waiting you can easily go to you computer and look on the internet for what ever (even chat with friends who have the game on some other sevice) plus you don't have to wait with lags on your computer (if you have a cruty computer).

    Nah, i prefer PC version.

I dont like console controls (except the Xbox control, its cool and comfortable image )

PC: great graphics, not lag at all, cheaper

PS2: crappy graphics (IMO i dont like the graphix) , lag, expensive, you can sit in your couch

  • ZordhasZordhas Member Posts: 40

Ok first I'm getting the PS2 version cuz I ain't got no comp! *cries* jk. My bro's bringing it to university. Well, I was already thinking of buying the keyboard of course, but would a mouse be uselful? or even.. VERY useful in this game? Tell me about it please ! XD Thanks

And I think that if you have the good computer thats required, go PC, if you only have the PS2, go PS2. Cuz if you think of it, it's kinda predictable that the PC runs better, better graphics and all. Though the PS2 won't have any hardware problems thats for sure.

If you see me walking towards you, be at guard. If you also see my Blade, you should concider fleeing.

Wow, this popcorn looks good! I think I'll eat it!
