I'm curious as to how many EVE players came from other games that failed or went bad for a period of time. (Specifically SWG, Earth and Beyond, Asheron's Call 2, Motor City Online, and any other possible game)
Thanks for the help!

Well you could say I kinda came from SWG,but I was playing eve online when I SWG was still in a sandbox and a nice game.
Nowadays I see alot of people comeing from WoW expecting a wowish sci-fi mmog and they quickly lay down a barrage of whine and leave.
The end of E&B was the reason for me to go to Eve.
The reason I came to eve was because i hade tried many MMORPGs, And when i did finaly get feed up with my favorit game, Ragnarok online. I started to look for new "subjects", and I fell for EvE right at the moment I saw it.
I came from WoW and tried to bring a bunch of friends with me. So far i've really been enjoying the game, but none of my friends seem to enjoy it at all. I wish they did..
Well not sure if this counts but 4 years ago i came from a game called NEOCRON. I was put off by its terrable graphics and to some degree the childish community [possable i got into a bad Corp].
It had good easy to et into PvP tho but in the end it was not enough to keep me.

the game I played before eve the second time was City of Heroes and WOW. I came here because I like sandbox rules
"And thus I clothe my naked villany/ with old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ/ and seem a saint when most I play the devil." Shakespeare's Richard III Act I Scene 3.
I just came to eve from SWG about 3 weeks ago. No, I am not one who hates SWG but I didn't find that I could play the game as casual as I am able to with EVE. What attracts me to EVE is that there is no end level and it involves strategy. EVE also has the best community and GM involvement of any game I have ever played. I am really stoked about the graphics update and the update coming up where you can actually exit your ship... Now I know why this game has been on the top of the charts here at mmorpg.com for a very long time.
I came from WoW
he he he he!
I went from SWG to WoW (like day and night)... to Eve (back to day).
I was playing & running Freelancer servers when eve was released ,,played for a bit dident really care for it ,,,went to a host of other games but kept checking it out through friends ...came back and have never left .
i played the face of mankind beta and was looking for somthing similar and eve was the only game that came close
I've been playing EVE since December 2005. If it weren't for the "nge" I would never have found EVE Online. Fo this I am thankfull that SOE told their entire player base to fk off.
I came across EVE through community members of "The Older Gamers". TOG is the reason I joined EVE. The complexity and open sandbox envronemtn is way I've stayed.
If SWG existed in a "pre-cu" version I am convinced I would still be paying for a subscription to it. SWG:"pre-cu" and EVE are the 2 best online gaming experiances had.
We have the incompotence of SOE and their developers to thank.
p.s. SOE refunded my pre-order of Trials of Obi-Wan when I informend them of their "wire fraud". I got the refund before there was an official statement.
I played GuildWars for quite some time..
Imagine the cultureshock when i came to Eve! Was addicted within 10 seconds (while creating my char..)
From Earth and Beyond. Still miss the game.....good times.
Beta tested SWG and Eve Online back then.
When I knew that E&B was ending in the fall I joined Eve Online on 2/13/2004.
I am still here.
Eve has come a long way.
I still play unreal gold and UT online once in a while.
All is good.
I came from Elite:Frontier, Freelancer, Freespace 1&2, X-Wing & TIE-Fighter series, Wing Commanders, Privateer, Allegiance, and from MMO's Jumpgate and StarSonata into EVE.
So... I've been around, I guess.
I came from WoW, and was very good in that game, but hated the whole BG thing. When I heard EVE was comprehensive and immersive, I checked it out, and was immediately frustrated. 6 months later a RL friend said come on in, we will get yah goin, and once I joined the corp, I was hooked. Now we are established in 0.0 space and I am having to much fun. WoW was ruined once they made battlegrounds, cause it seperates the world from the game, making it essentially, an empty world.
Before that it was Anarchy Online, Everquest, Ultima Online.... none of these games are truely up to date like WoW or EVE are. I like to play whats goin on, whats creative and challenging. WoW has the problem of topping out, but EVE is constantly changing and evolving, without a top limit other than how much ISK you can spend.
If WoW were to make a non BG server, I would play it again there, but the game is just to damn limiting otherwise. Its got this big giant world no one is ever in, compared to EVE, where everyone is in the entire world at the same time.
I would imagine the overwhelming majority of Eve's players have played some other MMO.
Eve is great but it's not the game I'd recommend to people who've never played an MMO before.
Played Earth and Beyond, till they shut it down flew my progen right through the twin suns and into EVE.
well if u want to get technical on a specific round date? id say roughly when CU/NGE came out and damn near had a coronary and looked else where for my fix. I always heard of EVE figured what the hell, ill give it a go. been playing on and off for about 2 years now. rest is history. im resubbing when i get paid the 7th of december. damn bi weekly paycheck doh!. either way see u in the new pretty oblivion of space :P

Eve was my 6th MMO. I am playing my 8th MMO now. As far as I know, all 8 MMO's are still up and running.
Ultima and Guild Wars.....Started EVE and Guild Wars the same day....only played GW for about a week
Exploiting a weakness in V'rix defensive protocols, i traveled through a V'rix warphive, escaping the destruction of the Jenquai people and EnB universe at the hands of the V'rix and there allies EA , emerging in a galaxy far far away.
I found myself dwelling amongst a capable industrious freethinking people, when suddenly, inexplicably,
i found my liberties under attack. under the guise of "improving the empire" The Mad Emporer Lucas unleashed his Dark Lord Smedley and Soetroopers in an all out assault upon everything good and fun,to replace it with a dark twisted "starwarsy and iconic" vision of what his empire should be,alas the darkside of the force.
Fleeing certain nerfdom i found work for a time as a Freelancer for some coprporation or another.
But as i had traveled the stars over the years, i had heard of the whispers and legends of another human spacefaring people, where a man is measured by his true worth, his deeds his loyalties, his indefagtiable will, a place called EvE may its stars shine long and bright.
I started playing Eve-Online about 3 or 4 months after it came out, purely as I had never heard of it.
Was playing Planetarion (and then StarSphere (4tw)), a space mmo web game. When I heard about Eve I was wtf? Planetarion with graphics? Surely not! W00t. Still playing it today, though I had couple of sizeable periods of inactvitiy.
I must have MMo A.D.D Tried Dark Age of Camelot with friends, grew tired of that. Went to SWG, what a let down for me, City of Heroes......not my cup of tea, Guild Wars was pretty cool, been stuck playing WOW for a couple years and just looking for something different and stumbled on the EVE article from this web site and its has definatly peeked my interest.
Planning on dowlaoding the trial and giving it a shot. Been doing alot of reading and it seems what I have been looking for in a game has been right in front of my face....go figure LOL
