Greatest game ever created.
could u tell me a few of the cool things about it .. lol i tryed playing it like a year back but the comp i had at the time couldnt run it was thinking of trying to play it agin but not sure
is the combat system full fps? or wat freind told me it sucked but he didnt say why..
The combat system is not only a full fledged first person shooter, but it's also a full fledged combat simulation. Everything is simulated according to history. Your guns bullets all travel out at a specified velocity and drop as they travel. The penetrating power and damage of the bullet is capable of inflicting are also determined by how far it has to travel (further out it has less power). When determining the penetration of armor, other factors are considered such as the angle of impact relative to the armor plate, type of ammo used, caliber, mass, the type of metal being hit, and spalling effects.
If you want a point of reference to understand what to expect from WW2OL as a shooter, the closest single player game to it would probably be operational flashpoint or armed assault. But even that is stretching it, because WW2OL really is totally unique and nothing can compare to it.
Some cool moments I've had in WW2OL:
=Being part of a large coordinated paratroop operation to secure an objective in advance of armor columns. Jumping out of a plane and seeing dozens of other parachutes. Then working with them to secure the nearby depots and hold them against enemy attack until ground support arrives.
=Calling in targets for bombers and watching them annihilate enemy positions.
=Acting as a infantry spotter for a Stug infantry support vehicle, calling out targets and protecting it from enemy infantry.
=Street to street fighting between infantry with some tank support.
=Infiltrating into a town, through a thick enemy screen, as either a sniper or sapper, and then harassing the enemy in a variety of ways.
=Cutting a swath through enemy fighters in my FW190 against overwhelming odds and getting out alive.
=Activating the siren on my stuka to scream down directly over targets before dropping my bombs.
=Rolling towards a town as part of an armored column, with dozens of friendly tanks around me.
=Setting up an anti-tank gun in an ambush position and taking out several enemy tanks before they even see me.
=Flying as part of a bomber force two dozen strong, with fighter escorts, to bomb enemy factories. Then trying to survive as enemy planes intercept us.
=Crewing a destroyer and shelling the enemy as part of a large naval battle for control of a coastal town.
hey trench u got a msn or yahoo or xfire or somthin so i can caht wit u easyer and asak question then this forum lol : ) u got in a bit intrigued
I PMed you my MSN.
Love this game, its the closest to rl combat you can get game wise.
Just love beein in the heat of it all, aa guns, atg, explosions damn its hawt like hell.
What i like the most is sitting in my PaK waiting for enemy tanks, just love to shoot them in the a$$.
para drops is fun like hell, once we had 3 full transport planes with ppl, damn what a sweet moment.
But this game really needs more ppl to get the feel of real battles.
But, if you do then remember a few things:
Good luck.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
The infantry combat in this game is abysmal, what.. nearly 8 years after release and the models are still hideous, and the glitch 10 yards at a time so good luck aiming properly.
Tanking consists of driving to a certain area, turning off the engine and hoping the low res.. horribly ugly 1995 esque models don't simply decide to cloak so that you cannot aim at them, thus providing them with an easy kill as you can stare directly at them and not even notice them.
Flight also has cloaking, even more often when a large battle happens, I think 24 bombers is a tad of an exaggeration for an ordinary raid, the most I have seen during prime time on the weekend were about 12/13 with perhaps 4 fighters in escort, and that was back before most of the player base became alienated by CRSes lack luster development routine.
The naval aspect of the game consists of sitting in a patrol boat, waiting to be bombed or hit by a large AT weapon.. hoping to get a kill so that after a few months you can drive the poorly rendered, extremely vulnerable destroyer model, and thats where it ends.. apparently destroyers were the largest ships featured in WW2.
This one is going nowhere fast because of an absolutely cheap skate community that refuses to update their antiquated equipment to be on par with modern mmorpgs, and a tiny subscriber base that cannot really pay for any large updates to this title.
I played on release when the server went down every other 15 mins from a crash or for an "update" I wanted this game to succeed quite badly, stayed subbed for over a year out of loyalty.. stay away, it was a good idea, but awful execution and early release for this one.. it just came out of a true beta state a few years ago.
Toughest PVP, get lucky or die because of our glitchy graphics and cloaking models that spasm 10/20 yards at a time.
And spare me any tripe about my PC, I can run COD4 and even Tabula Rasa with little to no lag.. this game is like a gigantic roach motel, that just wont close.

No-one is making excuses here, but can you show me another WWII MMOG that does not play in a shoebox?
For all it's faults, this game offers things that no other game does.
Sure, if CRS can't get a new engine out SOON the game may die a painful death... but until then you can still have fun playing it most of the time.

Could you explain here three Allied wins in row after the introduction of TOEs? Your take.
The intro of TO&E was always going to be messy. Lot's of unknowns for both CRS and the players.
It looks to me like the spawn lists needed some "tweaking" in part.
There was new equipment too. Mortars had an interesting effect on infantry play. I think on the Axis side some of the players who were dedicated 'cappers' may have been distracted by playing as mortarmen... so they capped less? Maybe.
The Allied Brigade movement / spawn restrictions were lifted and this was a BIG boost to the Allied side at all levels. (Trust me, I am not HC but the farked up spawn / movement rules even depressed the hell outta me!)
So, there was an increase in allied numbers. I saw this in my squad where our online numbers are up 50% in low pop most of the time. And numbers are the big thing.
Then there was the Allied breakthroughs leading to quick campaigns with low tier equipment. That helps allied numbers as the sexy german equipment is in the later tiers. (Not that the german tier 0 stuff is useless - they have some good stuff - but the Tiger is just sexy.)
And the fact some of the rules still need adjustment for TO&Es. (I am not against softcapping or breakthoughs - but the rules need adjustment a bit I think)
So, lots of factors. I think that the Axis need a post TO&E victory to restore the status quo too. This campaign they may get it.

Simple. ToEs allowed the allies to function as a single cohesive side. Prior to this they had artificially divided themselves into French and British camps. Some squads would refuse to play on the other side. They didn't work together. They sometimes spent more time fighting each other than they did the axis.
It should be noted that there was never anything stopping the allied side from doing what they are doing now. It was the playerbase who chose to divide themselves into two camps and not cooperate. ToE's changed that by allowing French and British brigades to be placed in the same town, thus fostering a unity and cohesion in the allied side that they have never had before.
So then you might ask, well if all ToEs did was help bring allied organization on par with the axis, why did we see a cascade of allied victory? The answer is in the spawnlists. It's flat out better. Better tanks, better aircraft, and a higher ratio of quality equipment,. The axis have been telling the allies for years that they had the better equipment tables, if only they would organize better they would roll the axis with ease. Well, no surprise, that's exactly what happened.
It's not just superior heavy equipment, but the sheer numbers of it they were given. For years CRS has been trying to give the allies a crutch against the axis hordes, and they did this by adjusting spawn numbers until the allies started winning about as many maps as they lost. Unfortunatley for the axis, once the organizational barriers on the allied side were knocked down there was simply nothing that could be done to contain the sheer weight of their heavy tank ratios.
That's why we've seen a huge reduction in the allied spawnlists lately, in an attempt to make things more competitive again.
To OP. So who's fanboy or hater from us two (as you quoting us both)?
WW2Ol's release was one of the worse in history. We in Beta begged them not to rrelease in its conditioin but Strategy First their publilsher wanted a June 6th release and got their way. 3 days prior to releae their coloaction facility went banrkrupt and CRS had to find new support and the when they did at release their 10k server would not hold more than 1200 before dumping people. CRS brought in two 200k a year Cisco Engineers to find the problem which was elusive. John McQueen..aka Killer..one of the owners decided to break the 10k cluster into several smaller ones. They slept in their office for a week patcching constantly and looking for the problem. The Colocation facilty had a bad optical cable that was causing the drops at 1200 players and was ffixed but by then the damage was done. CRS let people play for free for several months as they patched but soon had to go into Chapter 7 and almost lost the company. They have over time patched updated, fixed, added, changed till it is now a game worth playing. The day one players know of the horrors and humor that was ww2ol early in its life.
It is in my opinion the best combat pvp games to be played. It is constantly updated, I llike to think that I pay for the updates and play for free. The physics engine you will find has rounds tracked for 3k, with engery, angle of impact, component hit, enegery lost computed as damage to the component, angle exit, energy of exit, next impatc computed angle engery, energy lost...alos Spalling created, concussion effects of HE AP rounds all till it either loses all engery or 3k meters has been reached. This is every round, rifle to 88mm..to 5" guns on destroyers. It allows up to 128 players in view, in all directions..128 east..128 west etc. The vies distance is 3k for infantry..to about 8k for aircraft. With all those objects in view, towns, bodies, hulks tracers, tanks planes, guns, infantry etc the graphics must be budgeted carelfully so that even midrange machines can run the game. The graphics will never look as good as any standalone 32 players game since they usually use fog bldgs etc to keep the view of maps to no more than 200 meters square.
Players understand that new players are the life of any game and ww2ol is one of the best newbie freindly games played. Squad tke in newbies and show them how to play to keep from being fodder and no question is ignored and you will get a correct greifless answer as you ask. If you havent tried the game, there is a 2 week freebie always so the cost is worth the try. Sorry about the log post I didnt intend to its being so long.
To OP. So who's fanboy or hater from us two (as you quoting us both)?
Not you. I'm talking to the people on both sides who are using this thread to post rants or opinions that are neither questions nor answers to questions.

Thats just it, I cannot have fun watching characters skip/spasm/cloak then appear 5 feet in front of me before hosing me down with a full clip from their SMG, then seeing them spasm off to murder my fellow players on the "death cam" if they ever address the cloaking issue with players/tanks/aircraft disappearing in a fashion that would make the Romulans envious I will GLADLY come back, until then its just a laggy game that does not deserve my loyalty.. or my sub for that matter, feel free to try the trial newcomers but don't expect any magical cure to this problem any time soon, so many of us did..
To answer your question I don't really think there is an actual WW2 MMORPG out there aside from this one, still.. being the only lemon in the crate doesn't make it any sweeter.
Ummm. Okay.
Normally at this point I would apologise for going OT... but in this case YOU have broken your own rules by

So, to summarise:
Now forgive me for my obvious "Bias" here but you say the Allied players were responsible for the artificial barriers between the BEF and French forces?
OK.
So aren't these the same allied players that somehow miraculously saw the light and started working together at exactly the same time TO&Es were introduced?
Wow. That's some coincidence huh?
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
That's not true and if you have ever played on the allied side before ToE's, then you should know better.
Before ToE's, the game mechanics forced the allies into 2 sides, British and French. Now, the two forces can exist in 1 town with out any problems.
I'll give you an example, before ToE's, a British brigade could not retreat through a French controlled town and vis versa. Instead, if it was forced to retreat by the axis taking the army base flag, it would be routed from the map for 6 hours.
Here is another example, if both a british and french brigade attacked a single axis town, the allies had to control which forces captured which flag. I have had first hand experence where the french controlled all depot flags, were about to capture the AB and win the fight when the allied HC commanded that the AB should be captured British so a British brigade could move in. So the French troops in the AB waited while under fire for 1 lone British infantry to not get shot and come and cap the flag. Fustrating to say the least. The hard core Axis players would never know what the above situation is like because they never had anything like it.
This game mechanic restriction was a big bitch point for all hard core allied players. Lifting that restriction, I believe caused a large influx of allied players and thus the 3 wins in a row.

Hey, I know that.
In fact, if you do a search on the Playskool forums I posted an almost identicle post to yours about 6 months ago.
Explain it to Trenchgun.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
I have a couple questions:
It has been a number of years since I last played and I was on the Axis side as it seemed to be the lower population team.
1) what side has the lower population for the North America time zones? (I tend to play the under dogs)
2) What is ToE? (Abbreviations are a nightmare for people not in the loop)
3) I think you are talking about brigade spawning. How does that work? I usually play solo for a while until I find a good group to join. How does it affect someone without a kampfegroup (I think I got that right).
4) How does the mobile spawn points work? Something about a truck sets up shop somewhere and makes it a spawn base? Same question for airborne drops.
5) I loved to be a driver/support player. Can you get out of a vehicle yet and become an infantry? Same question if trucks are used to set up mobile spawn points. Same question for artillery.
6) How dies it feel to take a direct hit from an 88mm!
Best advice I got when I first started playing which echoes what you said:
Take your time to find a group to play with. It pays off.
Practice offline
Expect to get dead a lot when you first start playing.... and not understand what killed you.
Thanks in advance.
1) what side has the lower population for the North America time zones? (I tend to play the under dogs)
Not sure. But when you log in the game tells you now.
2) What is ToE? (Abbreviations are a nightmare for people not in the loop)
Table of Equipment OR Table of Organization and Equipment (Depending on which Military nerd you ask :P )
It refers to the equipment each Brigade has.
Right now they are all the same but soon CRS plans to allow Panzer Divisions to have more Panzers and less infantry where as Infantry Divisions will have... well you get the idea.
3) I think you are talking about brigade spawning. How does that work? I usually play solo for a while until I find a good group to join. How does it affect someone without a kampfegroup (I think I got that right).
Not at all. You will not notice the difference if you play alone.
Equipment moves with the Brigade now though - so a beaten up brigade cannot retreat to a new town to get all its equipment back.
4) How does the mobile spawn points work? Something about a truck sets up shop somewhere and makes it a spawn base? Same question for airborne drops.
A mobile spawn lets you spawn closer to the action.
Paradrops are a whole different thing though.
5) I loved to be a driver/support player. Can you get out of a vehicle yet and become an infantry? Same question if trucks are used to set up mobile spawn points. Same question for artillery.
You cannot get out of a vehicle (although I hear rumors "bailing" might be on the way?)
With the exception of the UMS (Un-manned Mobile Spawn) where the driver can leave the truck in place and respawn as infantry. But - you cannot get back in the truck later.
6) How dies it feel to take a direct hit from an 88mm!
Red and squishy. Followed by black and respawny.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
1) what side has the lower population for the North America time zones? (I tend to play the under dogs)
Axis, usually.
Unless the axis are winning and the allies have given up, in which case the axis will outnumber them in all timezones.
2) What is ToE? (Abbreviations are a nightmare for people not in the loop)
Tables of Equipment.
3) I think you are talking about brigade spawning. How does that work? I usually play solo for a while until I find a good group to join. How does it affect someone without a kampfegroup (I think I got thatright).
Equipment spawn lists are no longer universally the same and located at every town. Now they are deployed as brigades, and in the near future we can expect to see them divided into more specialist roles like infantry brigades and armor brigades.
These brigades can be cut off from supply or destroyed, in which case they are removed from the field and take 12 hours or so to be put back into the line.
For the solo player it doesn't force them to integrate into the High Command or tie themselves to a particular brigade. It anything it helps the solo player by making it easy to consistently find large scale organized action, which they can just jump into.
4) How does the mobile spawn points work? Something about a truck sets up shop somewhere and makes it a spawn base?
Exactly. Trucks function as mobile spawn points for infantry.
You're required to have an field base link from your town to the targeted facility. Supply is drawn from that brigade's field base.
There's also a minimum distance from the target that you can deploy the truck; about 300m.
Same question for airborne drops.
Paratroopers are located at airfields with transports planes. They load up, fly to the target, and jump out. They can also be loaded with normal infantry and glided down to the ground to release them safely.
Transport planes do not function as mobile spawns.
Currently there is only one type of paratroop: Armed with an SMG, smoke grenades, frag grenades, a satchel, and ammo resupply pack. But next patch we will see different paratroop types, armed with all the weapons ground infantry get access to. This will allow paratroops to bring more firepower to their dropzone.
5) I loved to be a driver/support player. Can you get out of a vehicle yet and become an infantry? Same question if trucks are used to set up mobile spawn points. Same question for artillery.
-You can't exit vehicles and become infantry.
-But you can despawn out of a mobile truck spawn, leaving the truck spawn there, and then spawn an infantry out of that same mobile spawn. These trucks also now act as ammo resupply points.
-You cannot detach yourself from ATGs. It's one of those features they've always talked about wanting, but which never materalizes due to the fact that it would require a complete rewrite of how the game works in some areas, and they don't have the time or the resources to do it considering how much other stuff they're working on.
-Actual artillery, not just anti-tank field guns, is not in the game. Except for light mortars. There's currently debate amongst the playerbase over whether or not it should even be added, and how it would be best implemented. I wouldn't expect to see artillery anytime soon.
[6) How dies it feel to take a direct hit from an 88mm!
As an infantry? Your world shatters. The screen goes nuts with shaking and turns red, then black.
As a tank? Depends on what you're driving and where you get hit. Maybe the shell bounces off. Maybe it hits your ammo and the whole tank explodes. Maybe it hits the fuel and your tank catches fire, burning the crew. Maybe it just takes out a track, immobilizing you. Maybe it simply kills the crew with spalling and the tank just keeps rolling until it hits a tree, then despawns.
Thanks for the answers!
When I said artillery I really meant anti tank guns. My mistake.
As for brigade spawing, I think I get it now. Each "brigade" gets a certain amount of units: infantry, tanks, planes, etc. Those are then assigned to a town? by the High command? A brigade and player run kampfe groups do not affect each other?
Those resources are then used when people choose to fight in that town/field base regardless of what player organizations they are in?
Brigade spwning...Units contain eqquipment...towns no longer contain equipment at ABs unless the Brigade moves into the town and movement is controlled and no longer instantaneous.
Let's say the axis have 20 army brigades, 6 air brigades.
Each brigade has a set supply list. An army brigade has various infantry, tanks, and guns all in different quantities. These units are attritioned as they are spawned and lost. A unit that has been lost takes about six hours to resupply itself at that brigade.
Each brigade is connected to a town, from which players can spawn using that brigades equipment at all the town's facilities and at things linked to those facilities.
The whole brigade can be moved from one town to another, either advancing or falling back, but this takes a few hours.
If the brigade is cut off from a link to it's HQ (by taking all the town links around where it's stationed), then it's routed and is gone for something like 12 hours before it can be redeployed.
The High Command of each side is responsible for moving these brigades.
But the High Command has no control over what brigades individual players choose to spawn at, or what equipment they choose to spawn.
