EVE Online: Trinity Launch Date Announced

CCP has announced that the launch date for Trinity, the free content and graphics upgrade for EVE Online, will launch on December 5th, 2007.

Reykjavik, Iceland - November 28, 2007 - CCP, one of the world's largest independent game developers, today announced that the highly anticipated EVE Online: Trinity expansion for its popular massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) will be available on December 5, 2007. Available as a free online download for all EVE subscribers, Trinity features a next-generation graphics engine that sets a new aesthetic standard for online games. This expansion comes on the heels of another important milestone: more than 200,000 players now subscribe to EVE Online.

The release of the Trinity expansion fortifies EVE Online's position at the forefront of three-dimensional game graphics, creating a breath-taking cinematic experience during actual gameplay. In order to achieve its visual goals, CCP developed a new graphics engine, architected for Shader Model 3.0 and above. In this first showcase for the new engine, all ships, stations and stargates have been reconstructed. EVE Online: Trinity employs advanced lighting techniques and complex surface materials to make these highly detailed models even more realistic.

"EVE Online players always inspire and amaze everyone at CCP, and it is invigorating to see our subscription numbers surpass 200,000 as we prepare for the Trinity release," said Hilmar Veigar Petursson, Chief Executive Officer of CCP. "We're pleased that advances in graphics technology allow us to present the world of EVE as we had always envisioned it. We look forward to sharing the Trinity edition with the fast-growing, dedicated community that shares our passion to remove the barriers that constrain virtual worlds from meeting their full potential."

Hmm.... Does anyone know if Eve:Trinity is requiring an upgrade in minimum system requirements?  I've been able to run it on my laptop on integrated graphics (intel950 or whatever) -- I wonder if I'm gonna lose that next week?

Still, even my son (who doesn't play eve) was drooling over the pretty trailer...!

You will still be able to play, but the new shiny content wont be running on your machine. Its quite nice actually, that the new content will be optional.

IIRC, system specs should not change unless you choose to use the upgraded graphics engine.  The legacy client is still supported with Trinity, albeit with the lower-res graphics.  Also, I believe they have introduced some optimizations that should actually improve your experience with your existing system.

The new graphics can be viewed on Sisi (Singularity Test Server) and are gorgeous!  Even the Dominix looks good now.  :)  Just need a Shader 3.0 video card to download the extra graphic content.

    I'm so happy.

Making another character, I'm training support skills for now until I see if any changes send me into a different direction as far as racial ships.

If I download new content for the test server, will I still need to re-download for the std server after the update?

Yes you will have to re-download it.

I gotta say, it's tempting to renew my subscription, but after having my t2 fitted NightHawk concorded in the middle of a lvl 2 mission of all things,(can tank -Most- lvl 4s with my eyes closed) and the gm's telling me it's nothing outta the ordinary, I dunno if it's worth my time. It's not the loss of the ship that bugs me, as I've lost a dozen Ravens/Drakes in a week, and had no problem with it. It's the fact that I know 100% sure that it was a glitch in the game mechanics, and they refused to even acknowledge it. before someone even suggests it, I'm an 05 player (was.. just canceled last month), and do know exactly what will and will not get you concorded. I wasn't partied, so it wasn't another member that did something.. the mission complex was empty except for myself, so no, I didn't shoot anyone I shouldn't have.. Nor was I smartbombing, so that one's out as well. It was a kill mission I've done a million times.. a "named" merc and his 4-5 wingmen.. downed the merc, was on the 3rd wingman and Boom, concorded.

CCP seems to be joining Sony as far as their concern for the "small guy" goes. If I do go back, I won't bother reporting bugs/glitches or exploits, because ccp doesn't care one bit about the existance of the three. After all, they are workin on the new expansion which will just cover up all those existing bugs, right?

so for example if I have a graphic card without shader 3.0 support, (radeon X550 series), would I be able to see the new models?

Omega, it won't even offer you the option to download them.  You will see the old graphics.  Only those with shader 3.0 or later will be offered the new graphic download.

Basically the initial patch is like 28 meg and it has all the new content exept the new graphics engine [it does upgrade the engine to DirectX 8 tho].

However if after testing your computer it finds you can support the new shiny graphics it will offer to download them to you.

Yeah, the graphical part was the main thing as far as accessing with a trial account. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the new graphics, as well as the new content. EvE has always been one of those games that just couldn't catch my attention much ( although I do maintain a sideways glance when it's not looking), but the more they add to it, the more it's starting to look better to me every time. So, I'll start a trial after launch, and see if it can hook me this time.
