Hey all, i recently finished leveling 6 out of the 8 game classes to level 30.
Current 30's are.
Spy , sniper,grenadier,guardian, demo, engineer.
Working on the medic and Exobiologist atm.
So if anyone has any questions about the classes at lvl 30 i'll try to give a fair and un-biased opinion on them for you.
I know one guys opinion is anothers garbage, but i'll try to do my best, and maybe help lend some class or spec or even leveling help to the newer players out there.

this will decide which class i will continue to level.
out of a guardian, spy and enginner which class do you enjoy most and could you give reasons : ]
thanks
This is a great opportunity, thanks for taking the time to offer your insights.
Anyway, I have a few general questions; first, what do you consider to be your playstyle, and second which class did you find to be the most enjoyable? Also (this one might be harder to answer), given your experiences which class seems to be the most played/popular?
Finally, what are you thoughts on demolitionsts - are they useful in groups and are they fun?
Depends on what you want out of a class for yourself. But..
Out of the 3 you listed, i enjoy playing the spy most (As do many). But, bare in mind i'm talking solo play. If i had a constant team of people i usually teamed with, i would have to pick engi, for there sheer support role.
A spy has many options available to them as far as soloing, and teaming. Be it PvE or PvP. Plus there a really fun class. Many really useful talents/skills. They can do massive damage, and can even be a support role when needed, as far as healing and repareing, even reviving downed players ...
Guardians are a really strong second. in the fact there armor is the highest based in-game. Also staffs are -really- useful and fun. They can take a beating, also do good damage. not on par with sniper or spy, but like i said a close second. It's a toss up between (more damage-less survival) / (More survival-less damage). Classic mmo changup
Engi's are great as well, but for my personal playstyle i was somewhat let-down buy them. i wanted a engi as my main chr, but this is not the case.
They bring a lot of support to a team, and with 5/5 pumps into bots they become really useful, as well as 5/5 turrets you can drop ALL 5 at a time, and plink away at a target.
But, turrets are kind of buggy, when you drop them, they take FAR to long to actually initiate targeting and combat. Bots are great but there follow speed i feel is a little too slow, and the fact that pump 5 multi bots do almost next to nothing as far as damage turned me off. Granted, sapper classes, Engi in perticular have high survival rights. Just seems to me that the entire AI of bots in general run on the speed of jello, when playing TR you need a bot that was finished with it's action 5mins ago,not 5 days. yes armor tools come in handy, and will save you and your team.
Again it's a personal playstyle. I feel like the ENTIRE spec' class trees are lacking in many things to put them on par with soldiers as a whole. But if you like healing and being a support role, then obviously engi would be it, out of the 3 you asked.
But honestly, with 5/5 polymorph, a spy heals and repairs as good as ANY spec tree class. So yea... You can be a spy and have team support to boot.
Atm i think for newer players to get used to the game, have fun, and experience the fun of this game. Roll a soldier class 1st. Until they revamp specialist classes, or give them some more virsitile~ skills. Just my opinion again.
Many players enjoy playing different classes, and thankfully thats what is great about an MMO. Also please keep in mind, that there are literally so many spec options in talent trees for classes, that maybe changing a spec up for a certain class, can and will lend you what you are looking for as a new player.
Here are some links to help you decide on specs.

Yes i shot myself for letting SOE cost me that much $ hehe.
RiP- Old SwG.
Nice info thanks! I'll probably make a Spy after my Guardian hits 50, or an Engineer if they patch their issues up before then.
1). My playstyle.
I would probably but myself into the role of a general playstyle, let me explain. I've been gaming with two real life friends for the past...4 years.
One ALWAYS goes dps, tank in any game we play. (He's a guardian in TR)
The other ALWAYS like playing a support role, healer. (he's a medic in TR)
myself i always try to put myself and class, playstyle to fit in between these two. But i also solo alot, as we all do when the times call for it. So i usually find myself leveling MANY classes and trying different specs, to see what fits best into our team combos. So lucky me i get to level 5 times more then they do in most games lol
But for solo play, i enjoy more often then not classes that do range damage, with kiting potential and support. Allbeit Sniper in TR, just my opinion.
2). What class do i find the most enjoyable?
Hard question, honestly they are ALL fun to be 100% truthful. in -solo- play i enjoy playing a spy or sniper, more-so sniper because it fits my playstyle. Granted my sniper spec is probably different then most general players. But i find them really fun. that's whats great about TR, you might be up in arms about what class to choose, so take time to figure how you will spec them, look at all possible angles. It will help make a choice. Everyone has a different spec, and playstyle.
A spy is probably close second due in part they seem to be the most thought out class in-game, they are a wrecking ball solo. But teamed i can use polymorph to heal my buddies given the sinario needed.
So solo (Which i don't get to do much) Sniper.
Teams Spy.
But many players out there have fun, and find there role as a support role via spec' trees there ace in the hole.
3).Which class is the most popular?
I play on Pegasus EST server. buy far the most popular or played are soldier classes, Specced into Spy, followed close buy snipers.
3rd would probably be guardian, then grenadiers.
i feel that most of the spec' class trees need some help. They can heal and be useful solo, or teamed in -PvE-. but most fall short ....real short as far as PvP. which i know is not many players cup of tea, so rejoice in knowing there still viable in PvE. Also don't take what i am saying as Spec classes are weak, just in my opinion they need some changes. to make the learning curve for newer players easier, and especially in pvp.
most new players i help can't even get used to the repair/healing tools, so hopefully they make some changes to help newer players straighten that learning curve.
4). Demos.
They are a rare breed Personally the class skills/makeup is there and set to be a great class. But they fall short in many departments.
One being polarity guns are so expensive to use it makes newer players shy away from using then (when they should) because they will go broke firing them. Well not broke but they are way to expensive atm to use. Also they don't do nearly enough damage even at 4-5 pumps. There only damage spike comes from Releasing the polarity for a sudden spark of impact, which is good, but you wasted 15-20 rounds getting it to that point. Not to mention when your buddy sitting next to you is popping rage, and using a grey rifle hitting for 2k more then you, tends to be a kinda "awww, thats it" moment.
Two when you hit 30, myself and everyone else went right out and tried to AOE the hell out of everything we could to see the big booms! Which they do, but there damage is honestly right under grenadiers, i mean skills that list EXTREME and ENORMOUS even, turn out to be tricycles in a moped race, sadly. It's there, but not nearly high enough.
This is what happens most times, Your buddy agros, gets em all grouped. You aoe the hell out of them, then die from the agro, cause it leaves them at 45% -60% most times, Then your back to trying to spam heal yourself to live, or using a polarity gun which is NOT a suitable weapon in this sinario.
But don't forget about reality ripper, Its basically a AOE CC, with higher pumps comes higher CC duration. It's useful. In both PvE and PvP. but again more often then not, you drop RR, AOE, if there still alive you have spent so much power on doing your initial onslaught that your left again, spam healing or trying to single target kill with a polarity gun.
There a fun class in teams, don't get it wrong. But i am just trying to give an un-biased opinion here. Hope it all helps. Many might disagree with me, some may agree. But i've given each class ample playtime after hitting 30 to test them all. I haven't done everything but probably enough. To lend a helping hand and or offer insight.
i'd also like to add, that even though this is just my opinion on things. Please bare in mind that if you are -set- on playing a certain class. Please don't let anything detour you from doing so. If you think a certain class will be fun, then guess what? 99% of the time there going to be
Tabula Rasa is a new game, that brings a breath of fresh air, into an MMO market dominated buy "Traditional" gameplay that needed to be retired before the tradition was started but hey, i'm not knocking on other games either. Adding a Spy Vs. Sniper Vs. Grenadier , cause i know someone will ask
(Taken from my other thread in class intel forum).
But as far as comparing Spy-Sniper-nader.
I've tried to maintain a duel/pvp retrospective while leveling each class to see each ones weaknesses and strengths. As well as maintaining the ole' PvE focus.
But Spys are a pretty complete class it seems to me, in both PvE and PvP. There damage output is at most times ground shattering. As well they have nice team support abilities in 5 pumps via polymorph,Magnesium flash(sp?),Traitor, etc.
Now don't get it wrong, in pvp polymorph heals, or armor repairs are in no way going to save you. one being, if your low on armor and almost in the red, then switch to poly rank/2 to repair. Once back to full in that form, if you switch back to human form, you go BACK down to your previous damage -before- poly/repareing. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not.
But spys lvl fast, they are not a hack and slash class like most people think. Yes they hit stuff, but sometimes you have to think what to do, if your starring at a group of 10 bain covered in a shield drone, and you HAVE to kill the boss in the middle of that cluster, it gets fun You have to start using your noodle sometimes. (Which keeps the class fun)
Also in pvp, spys are on a general playing field IMO. some will disagree in sue of traitor being kinda bugged atm. But 90% of the time any class has a pre-counter, or counter to this move. I know assuming players ALWAYS use there noodle to it's full potential /sarcasm off. In the least there not a hard fight if you -can- think.
But games like wow that adopted and raised this new age of players that expect pvp to be a mindless effort seems to out weight EVERY players potential. Most seem to gripe more then question what they are doing wrong. With that said.
Snipers, are another great class. We all know they do extreme damage. Remember spys that do ground shattering damage? Snipers can one-shot the earth lol.
Torque shell rifles are -probably- the most fun weapon i've had to use in ANY mmo i've ever played. I got 15+ mmos under my record so yea lol thats alot of weapons used.
Snipers aren't a Repetative class, that Spys seems to hover into. Snipers when soloing have a ton of options at there dissposal, weather it be using a TSR,shotguns, chainguns, etc.
Some people complain there not a team based class because they offer no support. But i'd HIGHLY disagree.
You see my sniper pop crit wave+rage+called shots+target painting, when using my chain gun. You will see the best fireworks show in-game,and who evers buy my side is gonna get goose bumps to see there own damage skyrocket. (If not) this games not for you in general lol. It's -really-fun though.
You just have to know when to support, when to one-shot a stalker, or when to cover your buddy in an instance.
Plus on all my ranger toons, i took 3/5 pumps reinforcements, for the medic. It has saved me and my team mates numerous times.
In duels/Pvp they are a class that IMO you have to think before, and act after. Yes they can kill from 80m away, but if you have a commando class closing range to 60m to get a rushing blow on you, and his engi buddy coming in close behind. What are you going to do?
Me i use called shots Rank 1 on the commando to slow em buy 75%, try to get a net off on him. Called shots rank 5 (Headshot on his engi buddy) take him out. Then kite , and deal with the commando. (Not always easy) but if any class has the keys to kite properly it's ranger/sniper. if you don't survive, chalk it up to a fair loss. again this isn't wow. You can't expect to solo 3-4 people on your super cool mage, and laugh later all the time.
It's fun esp' if you take 4-5 pumps into motor assist armor. Yea, you will take a survivability hit. But sometimes it's worth it when trying to kite.
Grenediers are a different class all together. They IMO fit better, and shine in a team based sinario. Weather it be Pve or PvP.
I'll say one skill that makes this class viable, and it's Rushing blow (As well as guardians). If the commando classes didn't have rushing blow. They would be lacking alot in both departments.
People complain, especially in pvp about rushing blow, because #1 with 5/5 pumps it's active from 60m away (max range) for most classes. #2 the knockback mechanic on it it's at times to extreme.
I don't mind being knockedback or doing it to someone. But the duration on ALL knockbacks in this game is too long. It last i'd say a -good- 5+ seconds, which is a lifetime in this game.
That being said, this games not so much based on pvp so we'll move on.
Nader weapons, Launchers seem kinda lackluster at best most times. Unless your using rage+sacrifice when using them.
Propellent guns are awesome (i think). some will disagree. but with 4-5 pumps, they do really great dps. Also if i see a nader in my face using a propel' gun with Virulent damage, and have him drop a Virulent grenade in my face it's most times GG for me or anyone.
They do really HIGH damage, but when i'm playing solo i find them great until i'm fighting a team of bain, and get one or two drop ships in my face. I'm usually dead. they lack an "ohh crap i know this is gonna end bad, so let me prepare" move. Besides taking the 10 toe taxi to GTFO street.
Also with naders, i think there weapon choices are so much that you have to think about what kind of nader you want to be before specing. Chainguns/launchers/propellent/firearms.
It's alot of choices. Now i'll be honest at 30 i cloned guardian. So the nader was an after thought as far as leveling him for hours, and hours. But i have played him for quite some time, speced him right (to my liking). So i hope i'm not being to biased.
All in all i know this is a long post, but sometimes a person just has to rant
In the end, each class is viable. You will ultimately have to make the decision for yourselves, and what you feel you will have the most fun playing. Also your spec can change a class from day to night (Remember that). I mean snipers and spys lack an AOE but if i take 3 pumps shrapnel, and carpet bombs. BOOM! says me.
Spys are good all around, and if you like melee there the best and most viable in game probably.Solo or team based. Guardians are great as well, but the OP didn't ask about them
Snipers (My fav) are just really bottom line fun. It won't suite many players playstyle. But if you like to maintain long range combat, and methodically choose your bullets next victim. There for you. But don't bypass em when thinking they cant support, or be in the middle AOE'ing, shotgun spamming numbers down. There still a soilder class
Grenadiers are fun, esp if you have some friends your always going to team with. They are great solo, and don't take my post to make them seem like there weak in any way solo. That's not the case.
I just -think- they shine better as a class and whole, in a team scenario. They have the highest armor value in-game, knockback resistance, crazy damage, alot of spec options, a TON of spec options matter of fact.
Hope this has helped. Also remember i'm only giving a lvl 30-35 opinion, and as always one mans opinion is anothers toilet paper. So yea..Maybe some lvl 4-50's can lend some more in depth insight.

tgreer,
Thanks for answering my questions, it helped a lot - I wanted to ask you some additional questions about grenadiers. I've looked around, but I haven't been able to find much feedback on the class or footage. The questions I have about grenadiers are the same ones that I had about the demolitionists; are they fun? What's the general playstyle like for grenadiers? Thanks again!
Edit: Wow, you actually anticipated my question. I guess you can disregard this post!
Does h2h stack with Guardian Staff skill and Spy Sword skills?
H2H atm currently stacks with guardian staffs. but not Spy sword skills.
I don't know if it is a bug or working as intended. But i do know atm, Guardian staffs are borked in part due to Physical damage staffs are benifitting from increased staff skills 5/5 pumps, etc. But all other damage types are not benefitting from those skills, IE: Ice, Fire, Virulent, Emp, etc.
I also don't know if this is intended or not, but you can in fact tell the Damage difference, maybe they are aware of this issue, and currently trying to fix it.
But to be honest Spys hit so hard a knock back would be too much and also, a knock back would mess with the synergy of the class.
I for one wouldn't want to beat on something only to knock it 12m away, then have to run to it and get behind again, etc. Would not suite the class imo. Guardians however have a rushing blow so it kinda goes hand and hand (no pun intended) hehe.

I'm going to make both a grenadier and guardian. Can you tell me about the skills they have, which are worth getting, which should be avoided, and how high I should aim to pump each?
Hi Tgreer,
Thanks for offering to help, i think i need it.
I was wondering if you could tell me how you used your attribute points (ie what you put them into, Mind Body Spirt ). I'm a bit worried about specing wrong because its permament and doesent reset when you clone, if you could remember how you specced your Guardian and Spy would be a great help.
Thanks
There's a little secret about TR that I'll share.... medics are the best solo class by far, no contest. My lvl 40 medic can solo stuff other classes wouldn't dream of trying. I'm sure some people will laugh at this, but if you have actually tried medic, you'll probably know what I'm talking about. I hesitate to say too much about this because I'm afraid of the fotm crowd dropping their spies and picking up medic.....but I'm sure it's just a matter of time anyway.
Ohh... I agree with you by the way. Love my medic.
-Recruit tree-
4/5 hand to hand
-Soldier Tree-
4/5 Rage
-Commando Tree-
3/5 Rushing blow
5/5 graviton armor
-Guardian tree-
3/5 reflection (Soley 3/5 at lvl 30 because the 1st three damage types of protect are very common during lvling, and 5/5 maxed will come from lvls 30-40)
5/5 Staffs
1/5 vortex
With this setup it will leave you with 2 pnts at lvl 30. Save them and bank on them till you can max out 5/5 reflection. But with this setup at this level you have the most damage, best armor protectant value. So leveling will be funner and fast.
From here on out i would suggest 30-40 being focused on maxing reflect. then just spend 40-50 on what you see fit (You already have the bases covered)
Grenadier spec , we should do something like this at level 30.
-Recruit Tree-
Nothing spent
-Soldier Tree-
4/5 Rage
-Commando Tree-
3/5 Rushing blow
4/5 Launchers
5/5 Graviton
-Grenadier Tree-
Sacrafice 3/5
Scatter Bombs 3/5 (these two you can play with, take 2/5 bombs to have 4/5 sacrafice, it's just personal preff at this moment)
4/5 Propellant guns
With this you have a good base set of talents and skills at 30 to lvl asap, and nuke the hell out of stuff. I ALWAYS choose to not max skills too 5/5 when lvling because your lvling, why waste 5pnts for one thing? when you can pick up multiple things to aid your process at that time.
So only go for important 5/5's like graviton armor, etc.
Hope this helps.

But, for arguements sake i havent reached 30 on my medic yet, my friend i play with has. So we'll wait to give it an honest review.
Yes medics CAN and DO solo things very well, because of immunity bubbles and regen from modded leech guns and what-not. Frighten stacking and insanity spamming ASIDE.
I can max traitor on my spy and -solo- anything as well. Mechanics like this will be fixed in the future so i try not to come in here and tell newer players what the "fotm" or what classes currently have the best exploits. It's a new game give it time.
That being said. Yes medics have there moments.

To be honest as long as during the leveling process you have a vague i idea of what class you will ultimately play. You can't really go wrong.
Take a sniper for example. From 1-20 i spent my pnts 1/1/1 evenly down the line. 20+ i started thinking to the future. Knowing i wanted the sniper as my main ranger clone.
Now sniper and spies aren't night and day, they both have medium armor rating, use lots of base power for skills, and have moderate regen.
So now im 30, my skills are base down the line from 20, 20-30 i saved my points.
Now i clone, my sniper is at 70-80m during combat most of the time, so he doesnt need body (Health) maxed. I started maxing his power and spirit in a 2/1 ratio. Power being the main focus.
With my spy i did the same because if i get in the red most of the time im dead anyways unless i've prepared for it.
it's really about player preff' but IMO i feel, research your chrs and plan them. You might want more health on a guardian to save you in those "ohh crap" situations, or you might want maxed power because you like spamming rushing blow, and specials whenever there needed.
I honestly don't think you can mess these pnts up so bad that it's class breaking. Were talking a few hundred pnts in the end.
Edit: I'd also like to add if you aren't sure. Save the points. You can do just fine playing and leveling without spending them, then waiting to see what and where you want to spend them.

I'll just say that I can tell you haven't really played medic.
I have a general gaming question.
I've just about run out of quests on Foreas/Concordia at lvl 20.
So my question is when you were 20, what/where did you go to continue leveling efficiently?
Playing: varies every day it seems.
20+ you should be in palisades. When complete with pali' move onto Plains, then incline, then mires, then platue. After or during platue you should hit 30.
generally, when you finish a zone, or come close to finishing an aren, you will get a mission to go see "So and so" in the next appropriate zone, for your level.
If worse comes to worse, i know Tentonwarhammer Has a decent leveling guide. Even some fairly informative instance guides.

Just skimming through... and this managed to catch my eye. Is it official that they are revamping specs?
They're revamping biotech (subclass for medic/exo) and medic. I imagine they're working on pet AI for engineers and exobiologists too. I imagine they'll end up revamping everything to some extent (e.g. soldier rage).
Really, and you figured this out on your own? Or was it the fact the thread it titled 6/8 classes....not 8/8?
I team with a medic daily (And can login to his account whenever i feel)...also i have a lvl 25'ish Bio atm, so i guess in 5 levels i will be able to lend advice on them. (Allbeit to your standards)? I'll make sure to change the title for you as well to 8/8
With that being said, your not going to tell me anything i already don't know about the class.
So, please don't make assumptions about people and what they know. I would rather try and be constructive , and help the newer player base out.I think they will also agree with me here.
If you enjoy medics great, but lets not pretend there not without problems, or what every player is looking for in this game.
They have probably the most bugs, and exploits in the game currently. But i guess we will leave secrets for another time, ya' know so the spies don't role your ultra exclusive class
When i hit 30 on my own medic, i'll play em for a few days, come back and give information on them. Hopefully helping a few people out in the process. When you can actually lend an un-biased opinion, how about come back here and help a few new players ? /Nuc Nuc
