Is it FFXI like in the fact that if you want to log in you better have a group to do it with?
Or is it that you can max level solo, but not get any of the worthwhile gear or quest chains?
Or.....can you get half way to max level then it's a crawl for every inch grind?
MMo's are by nature one of the three..I was just wondering which path TR took?

Grouping, someone groups in Tabula Rasa
You don't need to group in TR at all. I'm at the moment level 26 ranger and I haven't grouped at all in hole time I have been in TR. Actually I did group ones for hole 2 minute in one outpost battle. Don't know why the other person wanted to group, because it was not needed there.
How ever I think doing instance quest with group, could be very fun. Some of the quest are really nice. So far I haven't seen any quest what can't been soloed.
MMORPG.COM has worst forum editor ever exists
The short answer is, it is about the opposite of FFXI, in regards to grouping.
However grouping can be loads of fun, and I expect it to continue to improve.

I like that you don't need to group to do most of the content, but instances SHOULD require grouping. Otherwise there is no reason to group for anything in the game.
They need to make instances scale with your level up to a certain point, and they need to put mob numbers in there that make tackling it solo extremely difficult.
Very solo-friend game here. You can pretty much solo the entire game including the instances. Instances spawn more mobs when you have more players teamed up and entering the instance. So, if you go into an instance alone... not many mobs will spawn... if you go in there with a 5-player team.... a ton of mobs will spawn... get it? Makes it possible to solo an instance
I will say this.... as you progress past level 30 you will notice that the playfields get harder and harder.... also... if you choose to be a specialist (especially a medic) it's easier to team up and take on big mobs (striders, juggernaughts) as you get past lvl 30. Not to say a lvl 30+ can't take down the big mobs... it's just easier (more fun) and this last paragraph is more opinion than fact.
I don't know about never grouping in TR, that is a bit false. I was level 25 on my Ranger in Incline and had a hard time doing the missions there on my own.
Awesome thanks for the answers..I'll give the game a shot if I can ever get someone to pass along a trial key, it sounds different enought that it might hold my interest.
Edit got a key downloading now I'll let you know
Grouping does the following:
100% xp for each group member per mob (i.e. xp isn't shared or divided, everyone gets 100% value for each kill, if they attack it or not).
Quality of loot drops improves.
Instances scale with group size, which improves xp and loot.
aye right,
you can solo alsmost everything, but it has to be some lvls bleow your char then.
It would still be fun and a good amount of xp by the missions in the instance.
Grouping on the otherhand gives you tons of more xp, loot you can actualy use causeit will be at your lvl.
If you have a coordinated group i would always!
choose to group for instances.Voicechat is
integrated also if you love that.
BTW there are some missions and *the raging patriarch* you would more or less need to group but theyre not long and dont need much time
so you will have many people help you.
Thats a thing Tr does right, it dosent force you to group but grouping pays out in faster lvling and
+fun +gear.

Non-instanced missions to me don't require grouping at all, for instanced ones you can solo if your lvl is 2~3 higher than the mob boss, but you will die a lot if the mob boss is just one lvl above you because they can one-shot kill. It's far better to group for instanced missions, not a full group, 3~4 players seems to be the ideal number, because in some missions the enemy mob is insanely big for a full group and you end up using more ammo than if you were soloing. It's a very balanced game, you can easily form a group with players with similar level questing the same missions. So it really comes down to your play style, the options are there for you.
