For PVP, are missiles as effective as other weapon systems or is it better to put points into drones, rails, blaster, or artillery for PVP?
It just seems like missiles are more for PVE and a waste for a character you plan to PVP with.
Just trying to plan my skill training....thanks for the help.

Considering the fact that the crow depends on missiles and is the best ceptor in the game (no discussion here. it is the best one. period.) and that the raven will have even higher dps than the megathron with torps (trinity-changes)..no, skillpoints in missiles are not wasted.
(look at the amarr missileships..they rock!)
You just dont use them in fleets.
Missiles in a fleet don't work.... but they work great in a Stealth Bomber gangs....other night my corp had 13 SB's..... imagine the damage that 39 cruise missiles inflict at one time...... even BS's drop in seconds....

Thanks.....I have a good base of training with standard and heavies complete....I'm just not sure if I should continue with cruise and torpedo's? (as compared to other systems)...sounds like I should and I'm kinda surprised by that. I haven't even looked at adding assault.
Cerberus + heavy or heavy assault II's is an interceptor killing machine
Raven + Torps will be the highest dps ship in game after trinity changes.
Only problem with missles is that they are delayed damage. But the biggest benefit is that transversial means nothing to them. Get the explosion velocity up and everything takes full damage. Its just they are not favoured because of their delay, but they are worth it. Specially with te tech II ships that have very nice bonus's for them.

Nothing wrong with missiles in PVP. If you are fighting at medium-long range just attack the secondary target in fleet combat. In small gangs there's really not a huge difference.

just to repeat, missiles are great on interceptors as you don't have to worry about tracking and torps are the quickest T2 BS sized weapon and after rev3 will be great close range gank.
also i was flying a disposable caracal with damps and heavy missiles in a small to medium gang, i was very surprised at how high i came on the kill mail.
Pretty much what everyone else has said here. Missiles are great on ceptors, HACs and BC/CS. Raven are PvE ships but with the Trinity changes that might change. Just stick to their bonuses and you will be feared
HAMs on a Cerb or Drake work well and torps should be their equivalent in trinity. Missiles suck against Intys as they either outrun the missile or they are going that fast they do no damage and even precision missiles dont work after about 5,000 kms.
Rocket Kestrels with 200mm plate and MWD are fun to.

Minmatar ships have split weapon systems. In my opinion, it is better to train missiles than skill for nos.
Minmatar ships are very good for PvP.
no missiles arnt useless though i haveto ask how did your missile dps increase on a raven since rof was decreased (meaning less dps)
atleast that and range decrease are the only changes i saw made to missiles.
If you use them, then train for them ^.^
maybe not get all skills to 5 like you might do in guns, drones or navigation and stuff, but definatly train some! a few skills trained can make a big difference to your damage.
1) Decrease in launcher rate of fire means the torpedoes come out of the launchers quicker, +25% damage dealt.
2) Missiles ARE affected by transversal velocity, please stop making posts if you have no idea what you are talking about. If you fly right into a missile with 0 m/s transversal (which is pretty much impossible but whatever) even doing 10 km/s you WILL take damage, it's just REALLY rare that it would actually happen as both you and the missiles shot at you are changing vectors continuously.
3) Missiles are still not a good option when it comes to pvp as EVE has become nothing more than gank and run tactics which rely on the DPS being delievered quickly. Furthermore, if you have to warp away, the missiles do not hit the target. As for stealth bombers, they are still fairly useless as even with the decrease in bomb cost it's like 5M to launch one and any other stealth ship is better suited for opening covert cynos. Yeah they hit hard, they also have less armor than an interceptor and are broader than the backside of a barn, nothing more than expensive toys with no practical use.
If you truly want to immerse yourself into pvp, start raising your skills in electronic warfare as well as minmatar ships as they are still stupidly over powered and CCP doesn't plan on doing anything about it in the near future. Get your missile skills to level 4 across the board (something like 1.2M skill points) you'll do 90% of the damage of someone who has 9M sp and will be just as effective if you plan on flying smaller ships.
With the 25% range and 80% reduction in cap cost that some of the ceptors are getting you're better off training your MWD/EW skills as you will be feared when you are disrupting BS's outside of their neutralization range for hours at a time. Ares and malediction will most likely have an increase in use since they will become extremely well-rounded tacklers.
P.S. : Taranis and Crusaders kill crows 1 o 1 ... but yes, they are the most effective when it comes to efficiency versus player skill as most ceptor pilots tend to not know what they are doing.

ahh i see. it can be interpreted either way so i figured they meant decreased as in slower
I have to disagree with dakilla666. I have been in fleets and they usually last a few minutes when they numbers and ships aren't completely lopsided. But you should never 'only' train missiles. If caldari, train up hybrids to add to missiles. If anything else, no point in bothering with missile skils...
I can pwn if I want to, I can leave my pants behind...
The velocity of the target ship is a factor when calculating the damage from a missle, not the transversal velocity.
I just wanted to add really quick here that the Phoenix arguably deals the most damage of all the dreadnaughts, and that is a missile boat.
Something can't 'arguably' deal the most damage. It either does or doesn't. Things that are arguable are what is the best ship and other normative statements. (maybe that term only applies to economics)
