EVE Online: Why Are EVErs Looking Forward to Trinity

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

The MMORPG.com hosted EVE: Downtime Sucks chat has been a huge success. While we had so many players gathered in our chat room, we decided to ask them why they were looking forward to the Trinity expansion.

Starting on Tuesday night and running straight through until Wednesday night, MMORPG.com has been hosting a chat in our IRC channel on Coldfront. The reason for this unusual chat is the 24 hours of downtime that CCP needs in order to update their server with the highly-anticipated Trinity expansion.

Trinity, which hits the game when the servers return on Wednesday evening, is a free expansion that many of EVE’s players have been looking forward to for quite some time. The crowning glory of this expansion is a full and quite honestly astounding graphical upgrade if the screenshots and videos that we have seen are any indication.

A new look isn’t all that Trinity brings to the table for fans of the space-based sandbox game. The expansion will also include new ships, new content and a slew of other odds and ends that promise to expand the already popular universe’s player base.

During the 24 hour chat, MMORPG.com asked some of the attendees what exactly they were looking forward to about this expansion:

I'm probably looking forward to the updated graphics the most. The bug fixes aren't a bad thing either.

Anyone who has upgraded to the improved graphics patch needs to read this before rebooting their rig

The new gfx engine looks very good and gives a lot more athmosphere to game. Especially the stations now look really awesome. Though i'm quite a bit dissapointed of Trinity, as i anticipated the new ship classes even more than the grafic boost. Having only the old models with just new attributes is quite a shame.

Trinity looks nice but will it's performance improvements alleviate the hideous lag in the Saila/Motsu area?

To me, this is CCP's last chance or I will be quitting.  I, and many others, have given them many suggestions on how to alleviate the lag but they have turned a deaf ear (simplest fix is to add more L4 Caldari Navy agents that give kill missions somewhere else in high sec Caldari space but they seem to not want to do that).

For at least the last six months (probably year), the game has been unplayable many times when I've logged on (for doing kill missions from the high quality Caldari Navy kill agents in high sec).

Adding new things is great but I would think making the game work for existing players would be a higher priority.

No thanks.  CCP claims they support all play-styles when they basically don't support Caldari carebears.

I have no problem being called a carebear when the alternative is to face regular gank squads in low sec (it may be fun for the gankers but it's definitely not fun for the gankee).

I have very little interest in pvp so joining one of the big alliances is not really an option.

The only time I'm likely to go into low sec is if I gather a gang to do a L5 mission.

I have found the Trinity patch to be very bland and dark. i mean its very DARK, oh wait my comp wont boot up. Trinity  made my PC unbootablealong with many others.

Well I was looking forward to the new ship clases esp the new BS. Geuss i will have to wait for the PC tech to get my system up and running again to see all the new stuff. what a time for EVE online to trash my system, i mean with christmass and all every penny counts.

The premium content dropped my fps from 130 to 15-30 fps.  Before anyone flames on how you can not see anything over 60 fps. I can see a huge difference going from 130 to 15 fps.  I see that they sat unless you have more than a 256 mb card which I  do not  to not upgrade to premium content. I have two 6800 256 cards running in sli and game is laggy for me so I am staying with the classic engine for now.   EVE devs were smart in what they did.  They put graphics in place that will be good for the future and they left their game open so could stay with old graphics.  I will stay with old graphics for now until I can upgrade my vid cards.

What I tried to mean with a little (LOT) irony is that it's not always the game that need to be changed but the way we play it. Specially with EVE where you can do about anything anywhere.
