I have played to level 30+ and I will tell you now, the quests don't last. You WILL have to grind alot, don't get deceived by the beginner levels after 20+ the quests (when there are any) will only net you about 10-20% of a level at most then the rest is grinding. Regarding leveling up by PvP, that is only viable in level 1-15 PvP. Trust me level 20-30 PvP is not going to level you up.
I saw it has : Cooking , Blacksmith , Herbs , Alchemy
Sorry but no, it doesn't have any of that. None of that is implemented yet and probably wont be for a long time. You can upgraded your slotted weapons/armor by putting stones in them but that's about it.
By the way I love this game and will be playing it in Open Beta and beyond but I don't want anyone to have misconceptions about it.
Thought what the heck, WAR beta is offline, so I DL'd the client.
I played it for an hour at which point I nearly wiped it...few days later gave it another go and actually started to enjoy Shaiya.
It does remind me of L2 especially the skill system and pvp, but that is good IMO. The big difference for me when comparing to L2, is that I have yet to experience any major lag unlike castle sieges in Lineage where I usually spent an hour of the siege running back or totally lagged out.
It is not a fully rounded MMORPG but what it does it does well. Compared to other freebies it is pretty good, better pvp than Rappelz, less grind than 9Dragons or RFOnline and way more polished than 2Moons.
The combat is fun and some thought is required when taking on mobs. The movement is both WASD and click2move (which I actually prefer...get to drink my coffee while running to mob locations) some of the animations are pretty cool, nice back flip if you double tap the S key. There is a lot of running around in this game but nothing is ever too far away and there are some excellant mob location maps on the forums. Some of the localisation on quests etc is a little wacky sometimes but most of the directions are accurate.
The UI is nice and uncluttered but the chat text size is very small on higher resolutions with no way to adjust the size (even via the ini) although the chat box size can be altered via the ini.
If you want something to, do while waiting for the next big western release, this game is quick to get into and does not require weeks of gaming to get to the pvp. It's not revolutionary, it's not original but it works and works very well.
Jeez i can't believe it is 18+ game. so much kids running around anf the pvp section sucks big time atm. It's like a big map where whenever you get hit by an enemy you lag for 10 secs :K Otherwise quite good basic korean dingdong pong
How old are u ? Really , it seems you are just played for like 5 min then you quit. Then you came here and said it sucks.
First of all the Arena PVP is nice + whenever you kill a oposition player , he can drop items , whenever you kill an oposition player you gain XP , but if you died you lose XP too
Second , the quests are really good too and nice rewards + there are some nice dangeous .
I saw it has : Cooking , Blacksmith , Herbs , Alchemy which i believe is oki. Also it has some kind of upgrade items. I just tried once but it failed
The W,A,S,D movement is more then good , not like Archlord if anyone knows what i am talking about. Is like WoW control.
I did not liked any game from AeriaGames but this one seems to be OK and free.
I did not like the items from shop. I saw they have a potion which increase like 200% exp , which is not cool !
In rest is a good game , i enjoy it and you may give it a try.
I played the game and i'll give my honest opinion. The game is pretty much like ALL other korean type games. You can load any of them up and get the same sorta playstyle. The quests are same old same old,i'll let you decide if that's what you want or not.GO kill 10 fox get choice of reward.
As far as WASD goes i can NEVER see any normal conclusion as to why this ancient setup is still used?In the very old days nobody used a mouse/keyboard combo,it just didn't exist.Nowadays i got my right arm outstretched onto my mouse and my left arm outstretched to the far left side of my keyboard and that is comfortable??not on earth ,it's a horribly uncomfortable way to play. The key mapping does not work or is just not implemented yet.Perhaps you could map them in the config file i don't know didn't bother to look or try.
The texture useage is very low poly and the mapping is again typical asian style. The buildings like other asian games are pretty much for looks and not interacted in the game. This basically means the NPC stand in front of the buildings because you cannot enter them.
Really i havn't got any issues with this game as it's very typical of F2P[or L2] asian type games, and exactly what i expected to see.If you can't afford to play the better pay to play games out there then i guess this is as good as any of the F2P games on the market. There just a little too boring for me to hangout in because the content is non existant, graphics are low poly, and battle engine is very simple/weak.
It really appears to me that the korean community or that neck of the woods is still hanging onto there old MU online style of gameplay only marginally upgrading graphics into our modern era.
As far as F2P games it's a 9/10 but compared to the upper echelon it's only a 4/10.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I played the game for two weeks. The community is full of crap talking kids, the classes are very unbalanced, and its a big grinder. The game looks like they cut, copy and pasted L2, most asian mmo's steal from eachother. The admins on the Shaiya forums behave like angry kids. They keep this game for now in closed,/open to all beta, like they have somthing special. All in all the game is just another run of the mill, basic asian item mall grinder. If you have been playing mmo's for many years, you know when thought was put into a game.... there is no thought in Shaiya. You can count on when the game goes open to live there will be alot of asian gold farming rings doing the whole botting mobs, botting sales spam and power leveling spam.
I dont know about you guys, im hella sick of asian item mall grinders. I hope some new pay to plays get released in 08 like Darkfall Online, Spellborn or Age of Conan.
I also was not impresed with this. It was ok to start but after you get through a few levels you start seeing some bad sighns like in other poor f2p's. Trash talk, disrespectfull AoE'ers ect.
It amazes me how cookie cutter most of the Asian Item mall games that have been recently coming out. Well i guess not compared to the number of them that have been popping up.
But it seems like the more they release the more chances they get to people playing them and spending money up front. Because I dont know anyone who would play most of these games very long....

I feel you mate been there also. Many many L2 Clones out there atm.
Try Perfect World in the wait for Aion and Spellborn and post your thought on that one.
i think shaiya is a great game also to be and american version is also great for a f2p i think its a 10 .open beta starts on 12/20 n i will be there if i want to pay for a game i will just buy more games for my xbox360 it isnt a computer games that can top xbox or ps3. but for shaiya to be FREE TO PLAY i know i will be plying that game when it open. AERIA is doing a great job ,its just some people are plan stupid dont blame the company.
I dunno I got to try this game and would have to say it stands a good shot at doing well.
Remember its a game allready played in Korea so it has updates to come.
Also its PvE and PvP aspects will apeal to those that preffer one over the other and for the non hardcore the PvP offers a change from the romp over the country side or even the dungeon romp(nice feature the dungeons)
What would be great is if this game had the Tabula Rasa game engine..then you'd have a intresting mmo
Maybe I'm out of the loop living in the US and all, but I've been enjoying my time in Shaiya. I don't argue it's an L2 clone but I love this so much more than Lineage II, which I could never get into. This one, yeah, it's cookie cutter. But it just clicks right. It's been relatively lag free (even the PvP lag isn't that bad), there's been plenty of builds to experiment with for each class. The grind is faster than most imports. Is it the best game? Hell no. But it's far from the worst game. I'm hoping the guys doing the NA version clean up the feel a little bit (kinda clunky WASD controls; I've found myself still using the mouse movement to escape fast in PvP).
it has the potential to have be a cult classic in the F2P market. If you're looking for the fabled WoW killer or top production value MMO, yeah you're gonna hate it. If you're looking for good PvP and some quick and dirty combat, this game rocks socks.
I've been having a blast playing this game. I just started playing it about a week ago, and it is great. It has excellent graphics, the community is nice, and it is just a fun game to play.
Wow, I haven't posted in here in so long...good to see u Riki.
Anywayz I'll give u guys a honest to good review of Shaiya.
I played this game like 3years back when it was in open beta in korea. Had a clan called the Mage Alliance of 300 guild members of mostly (90%) tanker class (human, I forget what the class was called) and Mages. I even had an interview from the online magazine portal NoriNuri. (Some people even jumped servers to join my guild).
Anywayz, the game was broke class wise. Tankers weren't even useful, neither were the mages any good in PvP, either than in spamming magic in mass group PvP or Boss raiding and hours of grinding during those peak levels (Mages were like dog food to assassins cloacking to backstab, if u got stunned... GG)
The best class possibly after and before the patch were still the ranger class (elves). Why? simple. Before the patch, the agility stat attribute was broke and so was the luck stat. If u had good set of items with luck gems embedded to get u 100% crit rate with rest invested in agility, rangers were unstoppable. That is of course if u had a "hard" character after hitting ur "normal" character to lvl50.
Although the classes weren't balanced in PvP, they all had their advantages. Mage and tanker party of 4 mages and at least 1 tanker basically melted mobs like lava through dungeons. The whole PvP areas according to level was a great idea. And the PvP was actually fun, making certain dungeons where valuable items were dropped were limited to higher and lower end PvP area dungeons.
Crafting system, I can't really say for sure, since I didn't play after release. But the game had a pretty decent upgrade and customization system. The stat attributes u invested into ur characters were actually visible while u PvP or kill mobs. Such as ur attack speed and crit rate.
IF U GUYS WHO PLAYS THIS HAVE EVER SEEN "ULTIMATE" RANGER WITH FULL CRIT AND AGI, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN BY 100% CRIT RATE AND FULL ATTACK SPEED. (NOT TO MENTION RIDICULOUS EVASION)
There really have been only 3 games that I can remember of having significance in stat attributes. Those three would be RO, Rohan Online, and Shaiya.
The whole goddess aura thing was cool too, where u get more xp, higher enchant rates bla bla...made the PvP actually significant to the whole alliance thing. Otherwise, why would people want to PvP, when they can possibly die and drop items. Not to mention, if ur a "Ulitimate" char and u die in a PvP zone, unless ur revived by someone of ur alliance within a certain time limit, you can lose that character forever (put the whole reality perspective well there. Although it is a harsh penalty.).
Anywayz, the game is really good for a "free" game. At the time of the game's OB in korea, alot of people who played WoW previously and were tired were actually looking forward to Shaiya. But no~ SonoV had to screw everything up, and the game became trash. They basically patched things opposite of what people were complaining. (Figures) The game had massive potential, althought the graphics weren't pretty, I don't think WoW carebears have any right to criticize Shaiya's lack of Graphical excellence.
All I can say is...It's not worth making a Ultimate character unless u have a confident guild behind ur back...or ur just screwed if ur in enemy territory in PvP zone, and nooone can come revive u. And U won't know the true potential of the game's exciting PvP until u make a "hard" character to lvl50.
GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month? Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools? MAKES ME PHOBIC OF STUPIDITY!
The more i played this game the more it bothered me to where i don't bother anymore.
I am sorry to say but i do not agree with your assesment of the broken class whatsoever. As a matter of fact it po'd me to no end to constantly see noobs asking "WHAT stats should i use for this"are they not playing the game for themselves? wtf!Soon to respond is every high level player that thinks because they hit level 50 that makes them knowledgeable lol. There were players bragging about level 3o in 3 days again how does that make you learn anything about gameplay?
I actually spent the time to do many tests with the different classes and found many flaws. There is NO one way to setup a class that is good for every player, there is just too many factors that weigh out your options. Some full pty everyday ,some DUO/some trio, some solo, some PVP only, some PVE only, some use item mall, some don't ,many many factors out there.
I can tell you right off that there item mall is a joke for anything in the game. The crit rate pot you can buy from the item mall gives pretty much a 100% crit rate,so there is no reason whatsoever to waste any pts on luck.Using the item mall you can solo pretty much anything a full group tries to gain xp off of,this is why it's all AOE grps wich really stupifies the game, heh that is me new saying.
Rather than go into a full problematic outline of the game i'll just touch on one other flaw. The epic quests!Who set this up is a tard. There is obviously peeps VERY frustrated[i don't blame them at all] because they have better things to do than sit there waiting an hour for a spawn only to have some other group get the KS.So they sit there and wait and wait until peeps give up or quit.It gets to the point where groups start begging other groups who have spent there time to come there for a reason ,to not KS and let them have the drop [a big LOL].Unless you know about the crit rate pots from item mall and/or have a high level player you'll be frustrated more times than not.I actually felt bad because i was using the crit rate pot and i was a much higher level than any other player in a certain quest.Needless to say my group won out the KS everytime,i stuck around and helped a few get it done.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I also was not impresed with this. It was ok to start but after you get through a few levels you start seeing some bad sighns like in other poor f2p's. Trash talk, disrespectfull AoE'ers ect.
You see this in every mmorpg... so far I've been playing a week and I've had a great experience with it. Its a pretty decent game, if your looking for a new mmorpg try it out you just might like it. The pvp battles are pretty intense too =/
You dont see that in every mmo. Most new western MMORPG have built in systems where you cant killsteal or loot from other players. It's only really the Asian free-to-play games that foster competition between players. Cant say it's good or bad, it's just different. I'm not a fan of it, but it's obviously not targeted toward American audiences. We're just an after-thought.
looks like a bad rip of l2 judging from screenshots imo.
honestly..it is!
quit a 37 assassin on fury side a few days ago cause only charackters get party are oracles, pagan and guardians (aoe party) and all others have todo stupid grind up til 50 when u can shooose hard mode for even more stupid grind.
graphics are a joke
those people who say it looks like L2 never PLAYED l2.
