CCP has issued a warning to all players who upgraded to Trinity Premium: Do not reboot your computer!
*Update: Players using Windowns Vista, Linux, or OSX are not affected by this issue. Likewise, YOu are not affected if you have EVE installed on a drive other than C:/.
If you have Windows AND upgraded EVE Online: Trinity Classic before 4 A.M. GMT to Premium using the content upgrade path then you MUST read this before doing anything else.
We have removed the faulty updater so anyone installing the Trinity Expansion now will not be effected.
- PLEASE DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
- Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file. Boot.ini file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to be able to see it. You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Recovery : Settings (third button down). Windows will alert you if the boot.ini file is missing.
- If boot.ini is still there then you are not affected and do not have to take any further steps.
- If boot.ini is NOT there then please click here: FORUM LINK
A new updater will be available shortly.
We apologize profusely for this error and are working on offering more extensive help those that have a non-working Windows PC, so please stay tuned.

A multiplayer online game patch that kills your Windows PC because it deletes critical system files in the computers root directory ... thats a first !
Better check the next patch file of any MMORPG for that "Format C" line ... just in case ...
NEVER PLAY ON PATCH DAY !
Hmm, problem existed between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. GMT ... prime time for the US players I guess. Knowing the US legal system, I wont be surprised if CCP and White Wolf can look forward to some nasty legal action.
Have fun

Sadly it's not the first MMO to have this problem. All because of a misplaced .. LOL
it's happens. moving software from test to live is never as simple as people make it out to be. there's usually alot of things that need to be changed and many opportunities for typo's and such. trust me i'm doing that very process now.
Make a difference!
LOL i am glad i dont seem to have any problums, i think i may have got the patch after the problum was descovered btw the new exspansion looks awsome to bad with grafics on max i get 0.2 fps
You dont have to max it realy Keep HDR, normal shadows and high Resolution and its best setup. I got 200fps in 1600x1080 using HDR Bloom High, Normal Shadows, and 400~ fps in Clasic version lol
I would not say thats slow. Only kiler for your fps if you set Shadows for Extreme ( think its resolution of the shadows, It will not realy improve you visual experiance greatly, but it might kill your fps by alot but still playable around 60~ fps for me
Anyhow, New update is MAJOR speed bost, and remeber to reset computer after patch update, it tends to get super low fps til lyou rebot your pc.

Whats CCP gunna do about us poor fools rebooted before the warning.
GROSS NEGLIGENCE - Failure to use even the slightest amount of care in a way that shows Recklessness or willful disregard for the safety of others.
Whos gunna pay for the customers operating systems that have already been buggerd and they dont have the know how to fix them. Is CCP gunna pay the 100$ reapir bill? CCP's latest upgrade was worse then any virus i have ever had the pleasure of being infected by.
If your operating system was buggered please send a email to the New York Times.
It is a sucky thing to happen though, and I'm sure the person responsible both feels bad about it, and got a sufficient kick in the arse by their boss.

When your customers have their boot file for their operating system rremoved yes it is Gross Negligence. how many hundred or thousands of customers who only have 1 pc dont even know what happen? Many people pay thousands of dollars for a PC from the store and have the stor install the software. not everyone is going to feel comfortible or have the knowledge to get their systems going again.
Personally i could give a frack about CCP or the guy who worte the patch. Do they care that my Operating system is not booting. Are they gunna pay a tech to come to my house to relaod it.
Many customers who were on the fence will surly leave EVE now. I just hoping somone starts a class action lawsuit. Trinity patch was like a virus! Whos gunna make us hole?
Have fun
DAM, you are taking this out of serious proportions, it was a mistake, everyone makes a mistake.
it wasnt a virus, it wasnt intended, it has been fixed and such. new patches comes with new problems that needs to be fixed, they wont get sued over such a thing as a mistake. its like suing someone for accidently making someone lose their homework or whatever.
When an operating system allows a typical user to remove critical system files... now that is whack!
While it is obviously not a virus, to say people are taking it out of proportion is a bit short sighted in my opinion. Hundreds of people who aren't comfortable messing with their operating system are without PC's at the moment. These people may not have even seen the message yet that it was EVE's doing. The idea that ccp can't be sued for their negligence in the matter is pretty absurd, considering in America a woman wins a lawsuit against McDonald's for spilling hot coffee on herself .
Gross mistake.
Not to talk about people who use their computers for a living and might have been damaged more than the usual uncomfort.
Weird how something like this slipped through
Immortals [EU] - Darkfall Clan: http://immortals-online.eu/
Read my "funny" DF1 blog: http://casualdarkfall.blogspot.com
ROFL.
The EULA protects CCP from any kind of leagal action from those who have lost some very important information (and dont know how to get it back), some people have more than porn and ripped music on their systems, think small business, developers, artists.. they now have to spend a few 100 bucks by taking their PC to a shop who will most likly just reinstall windows.
Why CCP did not test the download on a clean machine I realy dont know, testing the patch on a typical customer system is 'how to run an MMO 101'.
Just how dumb are CCP?.. and why are they messing with boot.ini file any way?
Who the hell installs games on their C drive anyway? Most people who play EVE are fairly competent with computers.

I have to agree that a mess-up like this requires a LOT more than an apology. Give this a few days and we'll probably learn the full extent of the damage, but right now there are people who have to shell out money to fix what CCP broke. IMHO, this mistake IS like a virus, since it's damaging the computer system and will cost some people who aren't as familiar with computers as others are.
While suing them is too much (and people bringing it up should seek a reality check), saying "we're really sorry" definitely isn't enough.
CCP just cant seem to get away from these kind of screw ups and scandals.

I believe you meant to say "Trinity Patch removes the Virus"cause lets face it, if you're using Windows you're already operating in a bug laden environment. And worse yet, if you're using XP, it's time to upgrade.
But since you have to upgrade anyways, you should upgrade to a real Operating system... like OSX or Linux (insert Distro here)... That way you're running a OS that makes it impossible for these things to happen.

If it got screwed up just format it and start over... it takes a whole 3 hours out of your life that you would otherwise be sitting around doing nothing. At least your computer will be clean and run well for those of you who load the system full of barely useful programs that take up tray space. *shrugs

But OSX is Linux
And trust me Linux has its share of bugs, just less people use it so less bugs are found. If every one who tries to hack windows moved to Linux then Linux would die overnight.
They should just re-install, providing the shop gave them a windows OEM disk.
You might not have anything important on your PC but many do... re-installing is not a simple fix.
Well seems the problem has been fixed now so its safe to patch up. For those who got caught tho [like me] its not to hard to fix and took me all of 5 minuites to do.

Copy the above code into notepad and save it to "c:oot.ini"
Start > Run "msconfig"
Go to the boot.ini tab and click "Check all boot paths"
This will then go down the list and check each of the lines to see if it is valid for you.
You will get a popup telling you if any of the lines is Invalid and asking if you want to remove it. Click yes.
At the end of all the popups you should be left with a working boot.ini
msconfig WILL NOT rebuild your boot.ini if you do not have one. It will only validate you exsisting boot.ini
Just follow that and you will be fine.

exactly. the whole just reformat thing is the stupidest reply to yet another CCP screw up. And if it turns out that CCP was warned about this by testers and that warning was ignored as some a saying then this is just another scandal in a long line of scandals.

Bottom line CCP new patch has buggered many customers operating systems. their is a post in the EVE forums that they were alerted to this durring beta testing. If this is true its nothing less then GROSS NEGLIGENCE - Failure to use even the slightest amount of care in a way that shows Recklessness or willful disregard for the safety of others.
Make no mistake a game company that makes their player base's computers inoperable is a bad buisness move. The trinity expansion will go down in gamming history as the " Trinity Virus"
Ooooooo.... Hohohohohohoooo. This is so damn funny. Good thing I'm CET+1 AND had to go to work. This way I didn't downloaded the crappy updater.
