Keep in mind this is written after becoming VERY annoyed... I just hate when things don't work... when things don't do what they are supposed to do.
So I get my Beta invite for the Pirates of the Burning Sea MMORPG [11th mmorpg beta in total]. Cool, right? I'm always eager to check out and help out a new MMORPG in development.
So I have to make an SOE station account. Damn. Okay whatever, I get that done. Now I have to link my SOE station account to my potbs.com forum account. Sure... wait... I can't sign in. Hmm... I request a new password. New password doesn't work... odd, it says my password has been updated in their system. I know my login name... I've got this new password... try again, new password... still nope.
I've been in 10 previous beta's and NEVER has actually getting into the game been so annoying. Not even PlayNC's Tabula Rasa sign up [Which is annoying].
THE NEXT DAY: Finally, the login works... I spend time downloading all 4 gigs... eventually it asks me for the 20 character activation code. I copy/paste right from the E-Mail... and get this message:
This key may only be registered once, and this key has already been registered.
Going to support... you are required to enter information such as what server you play on, character/ship name and VERSION # which isn't on the login screen... thus a pop up doesn't allow the completion of a ticket because the version number must be stated...
In conclusion:
,.l.. Flying Labs Studions and SOE. ,.l.. them up their stupid ...

I know, how crazy of me. And I realize it's beta but hasn't the PotBS beta been around for a while now? Seems SOE might never get their sh*t together.
Only reason I wanted to beta test this game was because these guys were doing something different for MMORPG's so I'm 'proud' of that. I totally support that. But WOW... I really can't stand SOE's 'service.'
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
SOE have a habit of presenting a good product to you, suck you into it and just when you think you're having a great time: they shit all over you. It has been like that since 2002 and doesn't seem like things have or will change.

OK I had same issues. What I had to do is make a post in the help forums at PoTBS main website. Within 15 minutes I had a email from a dev explaining how he would help me and he did.
Forget the SoE self help. It's to complex and buggy and never really has answered any of my questions. I made a post in SoE help a week ago and I just now getting a email saying they can't help me
Go staight to the game's site and make a post on the forums
Actually, if you take a closer look at the support form you'll notice that only subject, description and game server are required fields, and game server is a free text so putting in a dash works fine.
But yeah, I read quite a lot about problems linking FLS and SOE accounts and activating the beta key. It appears that they'll have to put work in there before launch. A lot.
Thanks Hrica, I did just that. Seems there's a whole thread of people stating the same problem.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
yuck.....downloading it now. Hopefully by some freak chance I'll be able to post how perfectly everything worked in an hour or so...........

Don't blame this on SoE. Rick himself posted on these very boards that FLS coders coded that crap into SoE's system and the bugs like this are the fault of FLS and not SoE. SoE is doing two things, publishing/marketing and billing. Nothing more, nothing less.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
