Last year there was a Huge contest here on MMORPG.COM with lots of goody and 250 beta keys and these (lucky) are probably playing the game right now. Would be awesome to have another one this year with even more beta keys. This is an official community request! /sign

Well, considering the players that won beta keys for AoC in LAST years Christmas giveaway are not in yet, I'd have to say no thanks. Too much hype and not enough substance coming from Funcom. I know, I know... the fanbois will come and /cry saying stuff like "They were promised a beta key, not when they'd get that beta key. As long as they got a beta key before the beta servers shut down prior to release Funcom fulfilled their obligation." Ya ya ya, we all know that. The point is, when we win a contest we'd like the fruits of that contest in that same calendar year, not a year or two later.

oh ok.. so to make you feel better about getting a beta key, funcom should go ahead and open up beta servers to you, reguardless of what's going on with the game or beta? Ok, yah that would be a brilliant move on their part. "Hey, lets open up the beta to winners of a contest (which of course was a random drawing, not really a contest) to make them feel better. We're not ready for that yet? It's ok, we want them to feel better."
ah, yah.
I don't think that's what he's saying. Looks more like he's saying that if it isn't there...don't give it.
For instance..if there is no beta to get into at that time...DON'T GIVE AWAY BETA KEYS TO A NON EXISTANT BETA! I don't think he's saying to change the game or patch a server together just so he could play.
They should have had a different prize.

I can totally understand the frustration. But patience with something like this is a must. Funcom knows what happens when you rush a game out the door.
AO was awful at launch. I was in the early beta stages of AO. It was pretty much barely out of alpha when we started and we figured the game had a year, at least, till release. Then Tommy Strand decided at or around E3 to announce release 1 month later. I was at that E3 and told Tommy straight up that it was a mistake. He shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing he could do. I think the mentality of a developer right now, that is trying to make a BIG mmo to compete with the big boys, is going to take as much time as they can to make positive they don't have a dumpy launch. Tommy lost his job over AO's flop. Doubt anyone at Funcom is in a hurry to follow his path
Anyway, like I said, I understand the frustration. It's been a year. I'm sure when they agreed to the contest they intended on getting those folks into beta asap. But things happen and I'm sure it's for the best in the long run that it's taking this long.
So, who wants to see another big AoC Christmas givaway? There was a cool PC last year with powerhouse enough to run AoC. It's this last year contest that made me know of MMORPG.com.
MMORPG.com has a big Christmas giveaway every year.
As to what will be given away as prizes that's up to the developers/marketing teams.

An AoC beta key Christmas giveaway thing would be awesome, I wouldn't mind my chances of getting into beta being risen for a small amount of time.

That would be great, but I don't see it happening. Like the others have said. It seems like they have enough people waiting to get in beta who actually have keys already. You never know though:)
That was an awesome contest, and i did get mybeta key a year later.
I did get the sword and 2 singed comics now i all i am waiting for is my copy of Age of conan and i will be set haha.

You got your key????? LUCKY! I did get the sword and comic but no key yet, and all they tell me is to wait and a bunch of other bullsh*t. I e-mail them every few months and they just tell me to wait. Well looks like my "guaranteed spot" will actually just be an open beta key.

Anyone else think this year's X-Mas contest is a little lame compared to previous years? You know, considering all the sponsors are F2P item bank Korean grinders. I was hoping for some AoC or WAR keys... *sigh*
