HP Pavillion 9500 series. (Ick)

Here is a heads up to my fellow gamers looking for a secondary machine for travel and to play games on.

The HP Pavillion 9000-9500 series laptop which is touted by salesman at BestBuy and backed up by a sticker of having a GForce 7150 series Video card (which wouldnt be bad for on-the-road gaming) does in fact benchmark at around the GForce3 series level.  The lower level can be found in laptops in the 300-400 dollar range where as the NEW all super high speed 9500 series HP laptops cost 1000$.   You get the performance form the lower level, 5 year old,  machines but for twice the price.

This is more of a buyer beware kind of thing.  Check the benchmarks on the gear you buy or get stuck with a piece of garbage.  Games will have reduced framerates, poor rendering, and no Direct3d support on the HP versions of the GForce vid cards in the 7000 series.  If there is a workaround feel free to post it here.  This is information currently available to the problems experienced as of today.

Its a sad day when the stats on a computer aren't really it's capabilities.  I think I'll stick with my desktop when Im not deployed and so much for video games while I am.  Well,  that and that 1000$ I spent on a lemon.

I should have stuck with my old addage of "Never buy HP!"

Oh well,  had to try it once.

Uh, you bought a computer with integrated graphics, what did you expect?

Integrated graphics are only good for watching movies and playing 2d games.

It is not HPs fault, you should have researched before buying to be honest. I am sure you could build one with a dedicated graphics card from their website for a similar price.

Or you could have just looked for a completely different brand of laptops, but don't blame it on HP for putting integrated graphics because most brands do put integrated graphics in laptops.

Uh, I think the point being made was that I was sold this after being told it would suit my needs perfectly.  Unfortunately sometimes we lead very busy lives and don't have the time to research everything as well as we should.   We still buy things and when we are lied to we get unhappy.   Perhaps if I had all the time in the world before deployments I'd spend all day researching things.

Now if you actually had anything helpful to say instead of implying that people are just stupid I might enjoy your remarks from here on out.   Looks like the only game I get to play is minesweeper except it will be with IED's and losing isn't an option.  How fun.

Well then don't blame it on HP, blame it on the best buy sales person.

Check Newegg for laptops or something. Or look into dell (vostro laptops have a choice for dedicated graphics cards, are pretty cheap, and have an XP option when customizing).
