Asheron's Call Darktide: Amazing

Ive been playing MMO's since they came out. Back on the Pacific server of Ultima Online my blacksmith could make one hell of an ingot. From there I went to Asheron's Call, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heros, Shadowbane, Lineage 2, FFXI, EvE, Lord of the Rings, EQ2, and WOW. For the past couple of months I had been extremely bored with gaming, and could not find very many quality MMOs to play. I tried to go back to Lord of the Rings, and WoW, but neither could hold my interest.

Then I heard about the 14 day free trial for Asheron's Call. Downloaded the game, and got signed up. Fairly easy process, and my god am I glad that I did. My search for a game is over!

The game has - hands down - the best PVP of any game ever made. Darktide is a fluke. The game was not designed for Darktide, but the game works amazingly well with Darktide. For those of you who do not know, Darktide is a server that has FFA PVP. Anyone can kill anyone. Funny enough, right after resubscribing and finishing the tutorial my level 5 melee character was killed by a level 197. Yay. While getting ganked can sure be a pain in the ass sometimes it adds something most MMOs these days are lacking - a challenge.

After getting killed I was able to observe some fighting going on in the town, Shushi, that I arrived in. Ten people running around casting spells, jumping, healing! It was chaos, but awesome chaos to watch! I then proceeded to the nearest dungeon I could find to get a few levels. Hit level 7, and figured I needed to move on as I was progressing too slowly. Decided I would hit up a leveling spot I remembered from a while back, but got killed along the way. Discouraged, I decided to look for a patron instead. I announced in general I was looking for one, and took some grief, but eventually found a great person to play with. Similar play times, and a great group of people in the monarchy.

Anyway.. enough about what Ive been doing. Heres the good, and bads about the game!

Good: 1) 14 Day Free Trial

2) Best PVP ever made

3) Great gameplay

4) FASTER leveling

Bad: 1) Outdated graphics, but better then most free to play MMOs

2) You will forget what the sun looks like

Hope this convinces a few of you to come back, or try the game. Ive been having a blast ever sine I came back, and I havent been doing much but leveling. If you need a patron then look me up, Vives.

Summary: Darktide PVP is amazing. Everytime you dont play on Darktide God kills a kitten.

its definately the best mmo.  I'd recommend this game to anyone who wants a real game experience instead of the new junk they make today.

I dunno, that a level 197 would even want to kill a level 5, no matter what the reason is probably enough to keep me from trying it.  But to each their own.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

obviously you haven't played Asheron's Call on Darktide server then Trollstar. It's kill or be killed.

Darktide was without question the best gaming experience I've had.

Unfortunately, you had to experience it back in the day, because its gone now. After player housing, and most importantly mansions were put in, the best part of that game died.

To this day though I've never found a game that I've had even close to as much fun with.

Darktide was absolutely amazing back in the days before mansions.  I remember my allegiance had a nice Lifestone picked out near the southwestern shore of the Direlands, good hunting and it had a vendor nearby and a portal to one of the cities in the east.  It was quite a trip to get there if you weren't tied there so raids were fairly rare but every now and then we'd get wind of someone in our area and have to start patrolling the area tracking down the intruders.  It was one of the more intense and immersive MMO experiences I've ever had.

All this talk of AC has me resubbing and downloading the updates now lol

Ac was my first game. I played on Dt from early 2000 until doac came out. I went back this week with the free trial but wont be staying. The game is just silly overpowered and all the heart is gone from it. The people their now would quit without buff bots, power leveling and third party apps to bend the rules. All this little visit did was remind me of why I left.

Oh and Thermatagy was the best concept for a magic system I have ever seen in a game. It was so raped by the community in a quest to cheat it that even turbine scraped it. What choice did they have? The players screwed this game over

for example they could of made it so that the right spell components changed once every 3 weeks or so. Than everyone would have to relearn the right spell components to cast spells with.. It would keep the magic system balanced so that only the people who were willing to learn and keep learning would be able to use spells

Here's a link to the free trial:

    http://trial.ac.turbine.com/

Here's a link to the home page for AC:

    http://ac.turbine.com/

    Some rate info:

    http://turbine.fuzeqna.com/asheronscall/consumer/kbdetail.asp?kbid=1434

This is a wonderful game and if Turbine would upgrade their netwrok code, I'd probably still be playing it.  I live in an area that doesn't use the antiquated data transfer protocol that Turbine uses for AC...unfortunately.    :(

Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!

Who cares about you then? If you have no credit card you are not a potential paying customer. Good bye.

Yeah AC: Darktide was the best. Specially in the back of the days with Blood, The Gimps, House of Sagacious, Shollos and many that I have forgotten of those other legendary guilds with great PvPers.

Unfourtanetely once the devs decided to "fix" run/slide casting, a long time ago, alot of player skills was lost from PvP and many great PvPers left. Now the game is mostly about character skills and who has the best weapon/armor even though there is still some, more than other MMORPGS, player skills that matters in fighting.

How do you pay for any MMO then? Seems to me that even sites like Paypal need a credit card to set up...

Actually in AC1, he has nothing to gain by killing you that is true but pure grief... but the cool part about AC is that you do gain XP from fighting PC's :)  so you can use that to your advantage and gain some crazy xp by fighting him even if you die you don't gain death penalty until 20+ i think now.  So it really doesn't matter :P

Would I actually be able to fight him?  I'm envisioning the 197 coming along and oneshoting me at range before I ever saw him coming.

doesn't matter because in AC you gain XP differently than most other games, but yeah you wouldn't gain much if someone was using ranged.  But i've rarely seen someone do that to lowbie/newbies.  Plus there are a lot of dungeons around that do have level limits on them.  so you can easly hide in those from someone that is really high level if you needed to.  and you would see him coming if you are paying attention to your radar :P  besides, ranged you can dodge no matter what level you are :)  just like you can magic.

Every major MMO provides game cards and digital keys. I didnt have problems with any other title (and I played WoW, LoTRO, EQ, EQ2, EVE, dozen of other MMOs). As for the statement that Turbine doesnt care about me... well, I guess AC has too many subscribers for devs to wish more

Just so you know the game was designed for Darktide. The PVE servers was a last minute decision. The original devs departed because of it. Asheron's Call was supposed to be a free for all PVP only. PVE and PVP server divergence ruined the game.

Yes DT was and still is, amazing. AC was the best gaming experience ive ever had.

What Turbine should do, if they werent a bunch of money greedy hogs, they should simply make AC F2P similar to what Funcom did with Anarchy Online. This would draw tons of old and new players to the game (me for one) especially if they make a classic old PvP server that has a clean slate with no high levels. That woudl draw SO many players into the game. They could either implement an item mall or pay through expansions to have the game pay the bills. Too bad the people running Turbine are so short sighted. Such a shame they lack the brains to do nothing about it.

Hahahahahahaha! Yeah, like that would ever happen.  Not even the classic PvP server would happen.  Turbine doesn't care about PvP anymore, its no longer run by a group of students straight out of college developing a game that they think would be fun, but rather by a corporate machine that wants to make games to appeal to the masses.  See Lord of the Rings online and any other game made by turbine aside from the one that made them successful, Asheron's Call.  It boggles my fucking mind as to why their original recipe that brought them fame and fortune seems to escape their newer games designs.

AC is a relic, I am happy its still going strong. I played for 4 years.

Started off on HG and then Moved to DT for the thrill of it. Ended up making a lvl 126 BM and having a blast with it along the way. I was rich, had my Townhouse, My piles of pyrel notes, GSA/GSE, all the tinked armor, weapons etc etc.

I had to move on finally... I have played everother MMO out there and nothing has come close to ever being as fun. I judge all games by their AC similarities.

I even tried to play again awhile back after I heard of the level cap increase and the new race expansions but apparently my account is lost because I never transfered it properly off MSN Gaming Zone.

Was a great time, nothing like jumping off the tou tou lighthouse because you wanted too or pounding some lowbie bloods camping n00bs in Yaraq. I really do miss the game, but I am so spolied now by the graphics of newer games I just don't think I would get the same adreniline rushes as I once had.

You can use a debit or check card I think. You have no excuse for not having one of those unless age is an issue.

    *sigh*

    Morningthaw ftw!

Paraduck was one of the best pvpers on our server. I remember when they implemented that slide casting nerf.. you could still do it but you would have to slide back to about the exact spot you started casting at... or else you would have one hell of a bill from the dry cleaners to get all that fizzle dust out of your matty robe.. had to give your pink olthoi helm a rub down too.
