Way to hard to choose just one of those. It was the combination of them all that made AC the greatness that it was and why every other MMO after has just lead me to boredom.
The best things about AC are the seamless world, portal system, loot system, and non-stereotypical characters. I also like the non-instanced, limited supply, housing system (except for apartments).
The skill system is OK. It's not as great not as free as everyone claims. Players still end up with fairly standard templates and categories (mage's, melee's, and archer's).
AC PvP is extremely over rated. Trying to glitch the animations isn't fun to me. Dodging is a nice feature, but combat has no variaty. Dropping items on death is annoying. Finally, it's almost impossible to play the game without turning to a third party site.
AC is a great game, especially when it came out. The seamless world is still superior to every other game.

QFT.
The patron vassel system was good in theory but ultimately was one of the leading reasons for the demise of the game along with 3rd party progs and of course the macros.
The wide open skill system was a great thing when the game first came out as was the magic system and magic economy(how many playing now actually even remember or know about that).
I'd like to see a true open skill system, seamless world sequel to Asheron's Call. AC2 doesn't count as it was nothing like the original.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
One thing I didn't put in the poll that I really miss about AC: Patch Day!
I loved reading the patch notes, seeing what came out when people hacked the cell.dat, getting in game after the update and looking around to see what had changed.
Seamless world for me. Even though the graphics were blurry and chunky, you really felt the scale of the world around you. Seeing mountains in the distance (and being able to run to those mountains) made the world feel more real in spite of the graphics.
Its for this reason that I cannot stand current MMOs... they all put you in closed areas with only a couple pathways from one place to another. You're always surrounded by tall, unclimbable cliffs and you are perpetually trapped in a large rat maze. WoW and its clone LoTRO are particularly bad in this respect.
Another thing - AC's map was great. Just one big ambiguous map without pre-defined areas. You really felt like you were exploring uncharted wilderness when you walked outside of a town.
A previous poster mentioned that to complete the game you had to rely on third party sources - to me this was a blessing. I liked having to seek out knowledge to complete a quest, rather than having it all handed to me on a silver platter, as the current MMOs do.

I voted for the wide-open skill system.
Bah, was such a great game...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
