Hello
I have the Vanadiel Collection(original game,Rise and Chains). I tried to play FFXI about one year ago or so and I had to stop because of financials.
I am wondering if it is worth to restart FFXI from scratch.would I need all the expansions to enjoy?
Would I be able to play with other people without the expansions?
Thanks
Comments
simple; yes, it is worth it. Heck i'm just started and the people in the gaming are very nice. Yesterday i just had a guy helped me level and didn't ask anything in return. Im on Asure server.
Oh, and you don't really need all the expansion to enjoy it, but you could the the whole package for like $15 now i think.
^^
i think it worth
Its cheaper then wow and 100% more contents then wow.
What else can you ask ?
P.S it take as long in this game to get as high in wow (for decent player that know how to play (not elite)).
none
The only bad thing is the force grouping but, hell, im gonna pick it up (again for the third time lol) tonight (including expansion)
Can anyone recommend a good server

First of all, why mention WoW? Have you even played WoW?
Secondly, stop spreading lies. No matter what you say, it takes much more time in this game to reach max level. Consider all of the things required in between grinds; level limit breaks, sub job leveling, making gil, finding/creating groups, travel time, etc.
For the OP: You'll want he expansions eventually, but you likely won't use any until level 25+.
because wow is common and a great stepping stone for comparsion and yes i played wow having level 70 characters. Thanks for the UI i am also able to compare playtime.
It is cheaper (you know it), and it have more content then wow (and you should know this). I actually spend most of my time idle waiting for groups too in wow for dungeons as well. Hence i can attribute the same amount time in seeking group over there.
I don't know about you, i am a pretty active player that take initative and doesn't idle when there isn't a need to. Hence i achieved a completely new account with chr corsair @ 75 with /rng @ 38 ninja 37 brd 25 and whm 30 (not slacking off being cheap either) under 31 in-game day with Most missions done (normal mission and ZM 15...cop still @ 2.5 TOAU @ 16) P.S this is done without any plevel. I only got my chr from recent return campaign. (i am not proving i am superior or anything)
It took me as long on priest to hit 70 as well.
Hence i am NOT giving lies while these are my own records.
It is facts that it take long to level in WoW as well it took 6-7 hour just to level a class from 59-60 and 10 hour on 69-70 as well. (i take 4 hour per level in 72-74 for my whm currently)
Of course, if you idle whenever you log on in this game to seek group that's because your own play style, i usually log off and find something else to work on if i don't see good group possibility, i can idle on wow on every mob for the same duration to make it the same.

Cheaper than other p2p games and alot more content than other mmo games.. Yes, the leveling takes awhile to reach the max but the journey to max level is alot of fun. The community they have there is great, everyone helps. I played for almost 2 years on the Seraph server. I am actually considering going back to playing this game again. I tried other mmo games but none really can compare to FFXI.
How so? I don't believe this statement.
That's just stupid to compare your slow wow leveling, to FFXI's leveling system. Leveling is a piece of cake on WoW because you can do the whole thing solo. Of course it's going to take a long time if you stand around cities checking auctions and looking for parties. If you are efficient about it though, leveling shouldn't take you more than 7-8 days /played. I really can't say the same for FFXI though because xp is fixed based on the level of the mob you are fighting, plus you have to look for a group to do much of anything, and that's impossible to tell how long it will take to find one unless you have a group of friends or active linkshell around your level.
What?
And yes, you are 'giving lies'.
Oh please, it only takes about 2 hours to go 59-60 on wow, probably less with the new leveling system.
By the looks of it, you're just pulling this stuff out of your behind. I doubt you really played WoW, or at least if you did, you were a very poor player. It's understandable that you'd defend FFXI, it's a good game, and I really enjoy it. But you are comparing it to the wrong game using outrageous reasoning.
Do you know for certain?
This game is VERY worth going back to, I have not played on my own account personally for 3 years after going through, Rose, Guild Wars, WoW, Monster Hunter(ps2 game, pretty cool), and a bunch of other games...And I will be returning to FFXI this winter because no game comes close to matching up to it. One of the great features they have are the translations as well that allow japanese literate players to interact very well with english literate players. The community makes the experience long lasting. I'm not sure why I quit....But I'm going back, and will stay with the game for it's remaining duration, which by the looks seems to be a long time,
One of the best things this game has above any other game is a story line
... a true, and interesting storyline with cutscenes and real meaning to the missions you are doing
Not quest after quest for gold or petty items...You quest so you can get to the next step...
This is game is very worth the while, and it gets better the longer you play it!!!! Try the 1month free trial, that should be enough to get you pretty far into the game...
My Rating on this game= 10/10
I won't argue with anyone about their achievements. I've seen someone hit 1-75 after having all limit breaks in a little over a week, he was being PLed the entire time.
Good Things:
As for the game which is the point, it is an amazing game and I still say it's the best mmo I've ever played. Now you need to look at what I look for in mmo's which is PvE. the storyline and the missions are amazing, well put together, and fun, the constant grouping I enjoyed throughout because I met a lot of cool people which I'm still in contact with today even though I will never see them again on FFXI.
If you just want to PvP you got the wrong game even thougn it offers the little bit it does, it was terrible last time I played which was a year ago last time a took a good look at it, as for now you should ask someone else.
The community was amazing when I played and it was everytime I came back to play again.
You can always level from the start because people are always leveling other classes.
People are usually helpful.
Chinese farmers get banned.
Bad things:
As for things I did not like about FFXI. I played from release so there was a lot more people on when I first played compared to now, but still enough for the game to continue growing.
Graphics are fairly poor on pc compared to new games, yes I know what I just said so here's the details for those that do not know. When my characters legs are blocky with a computer thats running BF2142, oblivion, TR, and other games on max settings with no lag at all, that gets on my nerves personally, other than that characters looked really nice.
Theres always the excessive DD in mmo's and on this game you basically only need a tank and a healer and then DD until higher levels when you use a BLM much more effectively.
The economy for the AH used to be crap, last I checked it was pretty stable except for a couple items.
Close:
Considering I haven't played since before the new expansion this could have changed, if anyone can fix anything I said above and give an actual fact for it I'm just saying thanks for the update. Everything I said is mostly a year old, but that's what I remember. FFXI was an amazing game and everyone I see say it's crap I usually win the argument unless they are stubborn and immature, I miss this game greatly and would be playing it right now if I had a stable internet connection.
Erhun on Bahamut server.
Final Fantasy as a game it has become one of the most solid ones so far. By far it is worthwhile to play again. Although the levelling process depends on many more factors and not only on personal initiative it still is much faster even on an average quality group. As far as content goes, the real difference is not quantity or difficulty of it since many other MMO's have that, but I find it's content is something that really gets you involved most of the time than not. Which I believe is one of the reasons FF players keep coming back.
A friend is not him who provides support during your failures.A friend is the one that cheers you during your successes.
Yeah, I've been in groups that when you look at the classes you say to yourself, "This is gonna be a really good group!" but in actuality you level slow and others that look bad yet end up gaining you a level faster than you can imagine.
The difficulty always grows when you level yet groups are still able to just plow through mobs. The whole experience that FFXI puts out there is what makes it one of the greatest PvE mmo's to date.
Well I've played WoW since beta and I recently left because of the expansion and guild/server drama.
WoW is fast paced, FFXI is slow paced.
In WoW I was in a hardcore raiding guild which we were doing dungeons all week from 5 pm to 1 am.
Yes, I had good gear but it was the only thing I was doing after I hit 60.... getting supplies and getting Add-ons for bosses. I remember it took us hours to get the positioning right and explain the fight.
And yet, the worst thing was we gave people godly items and they left weeks after.
The other thing.... UI.... in WoW the UI can be a big disadvantage to people. In PvP, the guy you're fighting knows what spells you use from an Add-on, they can check your HP, MP, and other things .
In FFXI you can't do that so I think it's great. Everyone has fair play.
I quit because of BC, the level cap and the capped 25 man dungeons killed every good raiding guild.
I was used to seeing a mage with 2-3k HP and now at lvl 70 they have over 8k or more.
The FFXI community is great compared to the WoW community. People would spam your server boards saying stuff like: OMG I JUST OWNED YOU NOOB. And then all the drama....
When you messed up in a raid, you'd get owned on vent by your guild leader.
FFXI is a long-term based game, and its way better than WoW.. As for WoW it's not really. Getting to 75 in FFXI is an achievement, in WoW it isin't. People were getting from 1-60 in a week/month easily. You don't find that alot in FFXI (1-75).
brd, pld, nin with well prepare gears and cash can really do 1-75 in a month easily on a normal basis. I have seen it myself and often as well.
While people who follow these people are able to keep up and do the same.
Just know your game and know your peers and you will be success (heck, this is for real life as well)
