Being one who is really looking forward to playing the Lich class, I find it disheartening so little info about the class has been released.
I've watched almost all the videos release for AoC and have seen a rare few containing the mage class (except for early videos which are obsolete for sure).
Being an avid MMO gamer for more than 15 years, I have the gut feeling that the mage class is being re-worked and dumbed down. With so much demand for the class (according to their own results) how can they possibly do nothing about it.
Here's to hoping they fix the mage class and include Lich's in-game.

Funcom has released very little in regards to the classes. Only lately have I found some decent information and that was on the Ten Ton Hammer website. They've been releasing biweekly Q and A's with the creators of AoC. Apparently they've reworked the classes and gotten rid of some of them such as the Lotus Master and have incorporated some of the ideas from that class into the assassin's skill trees.
They've done the fighting classes (tanks) and are now going through the rogue/assasin archetypes. Eventually they'll get to the casters so until then just hang out and watch for the info.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Understandable that some classes were removed during development of the game. Sad thing is if they start to remove classes now 2 1/2 months before "release" instead of keeping what they have and building on it.
I wouldnt worry much. The balancing of mages is the hardest part. It has been that way since forever. For AoConan its maybe the best to build the melee combat classes and the make the mages fit into it. I dont think they will remove any class.
From a technical point of view they most probably will go into feature freeze mode after the holidays and concentrate on testing and fixing through the betas till release.
The description of the Lich is not clear indeed, but i think he is kind of a battlemage. Just his armor is not plate but undead power. Maybe sort of a beserker battle mage I guess he will draw his power from his enemies (if anyone remembers the whirlwind barabarian in D2 with life and manaleech items) Powerful as long as he kills, weak if out of combat... just my 2cent. I am not in beta
The Lich SHOULD be in. It is the most popular Mage according to their newest what do you plan on playing poll. Doesn't mean it will make it though.
