Well with the number of times people bring up helmets as a defining issue that must be corrected I thought it might be interesting to validate this or see is SOE is correct in focusing on other area's and leaving helmets till later. This post is for people that are not already subscribed.

Nope, but if they add dynamic weather I will.
Oh, they are? Goodie, off to reactivate my account then!

When in doubt, troll.
Nope, but I may subscribe if they ever offer a 14 day free trial and then reduce the price for what is known by most as a subpar MMO. I wont pay that much for a game that had as many issues as it did when it came out. And I wont pay more than 20-30 for the box and 10-12 a month regardless of how well they fix it. I dont think SoE has figured out yet that the release of a game is just as important as what they do after release.
Its gonna take alot more then little cosmetic issues like helmets, tails and dynamic weather to get enough people to resubscribe again. They have to rework and fix the entire game; polish everything up completely, including all those boring quests, add an actual engaging storyline to those dull quests, not to mention get all those features they promised at launch actually working.
The helmets have never been an issue for me and as for the polish and quests... I am very happy with the state that the game is in at this moment and see things getting better each update. I don't know how you can say that the lore and quests are boring.. I'm enjoying the hell out of each and every quest and the quest dialogue is most of the time very exciting or funny/entertaining. but hey... it's my opinion that this game is one of, if not, the best fantasy mmo out there atm.
Good job SOE! Keep up the good work

Are you serious? What good does this do? I think nearly all the people that frequent this forum could tell you how this poll will turn out, which negates any need for this poll. Are you trying to prove something to the people who think helms should be a priority? I doubt they care what the majority thinks and just want their damn helms.
You're skill in stating the obvious has increased!

Sorry double post!
Which brings me to the point, more important than helmets would be giving the models more life (e.g. facial animations, which was one strength of SWG IMO).
With me it would have to be a number of things as I have said in many a topic now.
I think I will reactivate and come back when they have all this in the game until then I'm looking forward to Warhammer and Age of Conan (finished games with helmets).
A lack of helmets is just one of the overlooked features that helps yield the great void of Vanguard.
mmm
If they show helmets
If SoE hires Brad McQuaid, John Romero and the old Perpetual gang
If they make it a free subscription, like Guild Wars
Add Hobbits
Tell me again that "This game will set you free"
Tell me again that the game has 30mil+ invested in it.
Buy me a new 64 bit computer with 2x SLI 8800
and last but not least, lower gas prices
Then I will resubscibe
I'm already subscribed and loving the game. It just keeps getting better for me. When they add helmets, I'll enjoy them, but not having helmets seems like a strange reason to either get me to play or keep me from it.
This is a silly poll and a waste of time is you ask me!
What do you mean?
What I mean is, this entire thread is based on broken logic. The OP states that people refer to missing helms as a "defining issue", when I haven't seen that to be the case. People mention it as an indicator of progress or the lack thereof. Furthermore, he plans to "validate" this with a poll that includes the lack of tails?!
I think everyone would like the option of having their helms show, although for most players it's not a game-breaking issue. I think the fact that players don't have the option of visible helms is a sign that the focus is on game-breaking issues, and that is why some people won't play a game with no helms.

But the very point you're making is the one you're missing. I may be giving too much credit to the OP, but if I see what he's saying correctly, he's making the case that too many people are fallaciously using "missing helmets" as a false indicator for the progress the game has made. Indeed, if improvement always had a linear progression, starting with the implementation of helmet graphics, then Vanguard would be in deep trouble. However, that's clearly not the case - performance issues, character remodeling, gameplay balance, raid implementation, etc. should trump helmet graphics.
Frankly, I'm surprised how many viral responses there are to this game and how adverse people still are. Yes the game was bad upon release - very bad, even. However, condemning it forever seems pretty unreasonable. There's no reason to hold a vendetta against a *videogame* - yeah, it's okay to be upset and disappointed, but to swear upon hearing its name is a little sad. I played the game on release and my experience was not so bad; I'll openly admit that I was probably one of the few lucky ones. But, I also didn't have any huge expectations for the game. I only remember being interested and excited about the character classes and the notion of a huge open world, both of which the game managed to deliver (but not without faults).
With that being said, I don't think that anyone owes Vanguard *anything*. If you don't want to play the game, that's perfectly fine - to be honest, there are plenty of games in the future that look very promising, such as WAR, AoC, Aion and so on. However, to continue to relive the past on forums to the discredit of a game that hardly resembles the sorry state it was released in is strange. If you argue that you're simply exercising your right to vent off your frustrations caused by the game - well, that's fine. However, I'm SURE you've already done so in the past - many, many times.
But there's a point where people should just forgive and forget. The game is already on its last leg, and to continue to hurt it by speculating in excess that the game will never amount to anything is just spiteful. As people have made this point before, the game already has the foundational aspects which can make it great. With enough support the game has the capacity to turn into a fun and engaging experience. EQII managed just fine and now it's critically acclaimed by many of its players. So why can't Vanguard do the same?

I think you are giving too much credit to the OP. I offered him some insight as to why some people were mentioning helm graphics. If he had thought of that aspect beforehand, this poll wouldn't exist.
My point is not whether helm graphics is a valid indicator of progress or not. My point is that some people use it as an indicator. You're statement of helm graphics not being a valid indicator might be threadworthy. However, I find a poll referencing it as a "defining issue" to be nothing more than a jab at those who think it should be a priority.
Kinda funny how some statements are 2 dimensional and others aren't huh? Having read my post you projected it onto the OP, whose post was so whimsical it included tails.

I don't bash the game. I give the game exactly what it deserves. My experiences in VG were both good and bad. Be it good or bad reflections, it's reflections nonetheless.
DailyBuzz,
Point taken. I do think you're right in that I gave too much credit to the OP; however, I did see it as a satirical poke at people who frequently make references to the lack of helmet graphics as a reason to think that no progress has been made on the game. Further, I didn't mean to imply that you were bashing the game either - I realize that because I quoted your post it seemed as if I might have been addressing you directly in that regard - sorry about that.
No worries.
I guess I can concede that i do a fair amount of bashing after all. But, I only bash the aspects I feel are worthy of it.
I still maintain that VG has the absolute best classes and combat of any game I've ever played.

Maybe it is just a notch over renaming betatorch 1 and 2 in the to do list.

Perhaps we should add that as the 5th option to the poll.
Nothing short of making the game solo friendly and solo equal to group would bring me back to this game. I destroyed my discs as extra incentive to never come back.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
Lack of helms has never bothered me. In fact, I disable them in EQ2, and hid them in WoW back when I played as well.
At this point, the only thing that would make me take a serious second look at Vanguard is the free trial they're working on. Once that goes live, I might give the game another go to see what I think. Beyond that, everything else is just details.
