walking in the stations

TechcasualtyTechcasualty Member Posts: 14

this may seem silly, but the only thing keeping me from eve is any kind of interaction with the actual character. For some reason I just can't get into it because all I see is a ship, makes me think of auto assault or something. Anyways.. I remember hearing a rumor that they were going to allow you to walk around the stations, is this true? Is it in trinity?

It has been confirmed at the last FanFest that they are indeed working on this.

They said it will be implemented sometime in 2008, no exact date has been given, but there has been some infor on what you will be able to do. I believe there was a brief interview here on MMORPG.com even.

    Edit: Just found the link.

What about the atmospheric flight demo? There was a lot of hassle about this but CCP mention nothing about it for some time..

    Quoting from their Drawingboard:

    "Simple Planetary Interaction

The probable first step for planetary interaction, where you can manage planets from a Station or other suitable structure.

    Moderate Planetary Interaction

This would feature flying over planets and interacting with the planetary surface. This will likely follow on from Simple Planetary Interaction.

    Full Planetary Interaction

Planetary RTS or other hybrid game form. Yarr. The long-term crazy professor phase of planetary interaction."

They still want to do it, but keep in mind that ccp is rather small with limited ressources. First comes walking in station, then they will focus on another thing.

You can do search on "Ambulation". Ambulation will be a free expansion (all expansions are free) introducing avatars to the game. It has been slated for the summer of 2008.  The artwork and time that has been put into this free expansion has been extremely creative and a hugely successful- minis the boot ini—ooopps! They just released “Trinity” which is an upgrade to the graphic engine. This was a major accomplishment for a MMO. Every singles graphic was updated. And the beauty is that you can still play the old client if your PC cannot handle the update. The point is – this game is moving towards the Avatar and you can expect it too never copy the typical MMORPG format starting mid 2008. Also think of the ship as your avatar for now. That helped me to discover the beauty of this game.

I thought CCP now has 230 employees? I wonder how many of that are geared towards the required programming that these free expansions. I would love to see a department breakdown.

It doesn't seem silly to me, it seems like a really good point. I would love to see this incorporated into the game. However, EVE is fundamentally a lawless 0.0 PVP game and I don't see anything changing that. I would also imagine that any changes would be designed to augments this core not change it. I. E. I don't expect to see avatar combat compete with what the game is already about. I could be wrong, but thats the way I see it.

I don't believe we will see any avatar combat. That really makes no sense. I expect it to be only an RPG element that will give even more depth into interaction in the game.

Avartar fight would be nice...imagine new ways to assasin someone when he is out of his ship ;) that would be interesting....

I palyed Eve for a short time and problem was that i expected something little different...what i would like to see implemented is manual flying (with option to turn it on/off), cockpit view and multipersonal crafts...

None of those will ever work in EvE.

This is why many people have left the game...Its not what we signed up for, nor wanted.  I wish CCP luck with their future, and I really miss my old Eve...But this new crap aint worth my time.

Herkmeck- what are you talking about? Do you mean that CCP misleads players about the gameplay? I see no ads for avatars on space stations? No offense but what do you mean? If anyone misleads with marketing it is SOE with Star Wars Galaxies! And  how is a graphic engine update that is amazing and proves that existing online games can be updated "crap"?

Now you said you miss the "old eve". Since I am a noob to Eve what do you mean? I can relate between pre SWG NGE and post SWG NGE> Also subscriptions have been rising 80% since 2003 per year. CCP seems like a better  company than what I went through as a gamer with SWG SOELucas Arts.  Personally Eve is a solid game compared to the market I have been a part of. The lore that backs up this game is amazing and is spread all over the official web site. The artwork is extremely talented and doesn't adhere to any restraints. The quality behind management in  treatment of the Eve community is effective and fair. I see nothing but the utmost respect for this game within the circles I know of within the game industry, the entertainment industry, and the technology industry. Oh and especially the writers industry. And I am drawing from 10 years of RPG gameplay as I have watched this industry grow from a small garage to mass media.

I really don't view EVE as being fundamentally lawless.  The rules are quite clear, and with a little bit of common sense you can easily adjust the safety of your game experience.

Sure, there's scammers to beware of, and gankers who'll nail you if you make a mistake, and sometimes, you are just going to get your ship blown up no matter what you do to avoid it.

Overall the game is extremely well done and ambulation will only help to make it more personal for those folks who enjoy having it.

The old EVE is still there. You just can't hit mwd'ing frigates with battleship guns anymore. And yes, i can know, i've played it since beta 2, never took a single break.

Ambulation is just an optional expansion. If you don't want to use it, you can keep the current station interface - no one is forcing you to step out of your ship.

As for 'many people leaving the game': I think EVE is the only MMO that has managed to keep growing for more than 2-3 years. Every single other MMO has gone into decline after that time, or at least stagnation (see mmogchart.com), not counting some of the smaller, free MMO's. There are always more people joining up then there are people leaving, even when taking into consideration that there are a lot of multiple account users. The subscriber number keeps growing, and unless veterans keep buying new accounts (very doubtful, it's gotta stop somewhere) this would be impossible without a steady influx of new players.

    0.0 isnt lawless either.
The laws are quite simple for many Alliances:

    If red = shoot
    If neutral = shoot
    If blue = dont shoot.

LOL, I stand corrected. I don't know how I could have missed this rich legal structure.

    Mh, one should add:

If you shoot blue, then i shoot you.

Its not at all lawless, the laws are made by the ones inhabiting the space. So if you come in and go all "yarrrr" and start shooting at my friends, my friends will start shooting you.

    Its soooo easy! ;)

    //edit: oh, by the way:

Several months ago M.Pire surrendered to Morsus Mihi. They lived in Branch, thats very far from next highsec. They were given the standings to pass through our systems and get their stuff out, except pos fuel and poses, which had to be handed out. Every other assets were tolerated.

During their odyssee into highsec we intercepted some of their freighters + escort and scanned the freighters. What happened after that is quite unclear, but it appears that a) illicit goods were found (fuel + pos) and b) M.Pire opened fire when they knew they transported something not-so-legal in our space. What happened afterwards was some stress with our diplomats, but still they were granted safe passage. (the convoy died, though, due to our people responding the fire)

Thats far from "lawless space", isnt it?

Well, for me im very neutral for Ambulation, BUT I know for a fact its just a testing ground for their WoD mmorpg, they want to test the engine and such. Pretty smart and solid for ccp if you ask me.

This is the best  I just gotta   get some less workload at work to be able to continue playing eve.

Walking in station will bring a hell alot more players to eve.
