My concerns

legba11legba11 Member Posts: 17

with TR now is there seems little reason to group.  I play these games to group up (there are way better SP games out there IMO).

Am I wrong, as I am only 18 atm?

I grouped for a few instances, but even then it was a bunch people soloing near each other, rather than grouping...

    no, you are right

in TR you are a legion of 1

You are right, soloing is very easy in TR, so not much point to group.

Some quest are easyer with group, like Eloh Temple Trial.

    Try Treeback Camp solo.

Groups are nice, and as you move along in the game they are needed a little more.  A smart player though can solo through the MMO, but if there is anything aside from the game mechanics... grouping is just more fun.  Its more fun to go out with a group and accomplish something together, chat, socialize, you know the things that make it feel like your in a MMO?

As said too in Starr Longs interview, squads and multi-squads in certain maps will be a norm, so grouping as you move along will be more of an aspect to the game that it may be for you right now.

Early on, you are correct...at least outside of instances.  You need groups for some of the earlier instances unless you outlvl them.  Later, you can't get much past the door in many of the instances at the normal lvl for the zone unless you are in a group.  Later in the 30s, even regualr missions start needing more and more group work.

Besides, mob counts in instances go up with the number of members in the group.  Get a full group and run an instance and see just how much of a blood bath it can really be.

The 42nd on Pegasus got together Wednesday night, a 6 man Squad and ran Treeback.  Pure slaughter, intense and absolutely fun.  There was one guy who even said he had more fun in this instance than 2 years worth of WoW.

I usually solo and enjoy it but I'm glad grouping is an option when my friends login.  I just read the new article on the main page and they're going to have squad and multi-squad instances.  But you're right, just for going through the mission motions you don't need a group at all.

For that matter try running Incline, Mires, or any higher zones solo as a Specialist Class... Wont happen.... Grouping is major in this game later on....

Well I think thats an issue in the now, more so later for me when I reach those areas.  Round the time I get there, more players who play like myself, will reach these areas as well.  So hopefully that won't be as big of an issue at that time.  Besides There isn't a time that I log on, and I don't have a clan-mate not there to either help or have them come help me.

    Time will tell.

From experience I can tell you that the sapper and soldier classes are HIGHLY complimentary. Try teaming up and see what I mean... if you haven't already.

While you CAN solo most of the game, more or less "at level", there is a strong INCENTIVE to team up.

Nice having teaming as optional rather than compulsory.

I actually find grouping in TR quite difficult.

Most other games I have played (Asheron's Call {BEST MMORPG EVER bytheby} Anarchy Online, EQ, City of Heroes, AC2 {Worst MMORPG ever} and now Tabula Rasa... )  anyhow, most other games the teaming is easier.

Here in TR the teams end up scattered all over the map, the maps really-really bad in the outdoor areas; they don't show your teammates on the large map!  A lightblue colored pointer is about as useful as someone in Denver pointing East when a person asks how to get to Paris.

The Teaming interface is TERRIBLE.  Why can't I click on a teammate from the team list like I can in City of Heroes?  ( <--- Take a look at the interfaces in that game to see how ALL MMOs should be done in the future; they are a decade ahead of these other games)  As a healer what the hell are you supposed to do, just keep spinning in circles and hoping by some miracle the flash of colored bars with microscopic text was somehow, maybe, perhaps the person that actually neede a heal?

Rediculous!  Switching back and forth between shield - health - gun ???  And somehow being near someone that actually neededs one of those?  What is the point of playing a medical toon?  Bleh the team interface is like something off a pathetic nintendo game - mindbogglingly poorly done.

I have leveled five characters up to 11ish to 14ish so far just to make a bank of characters to use for clones later if I still play.

Anyhow, the teaming frustration at the lower levels has made it a solo game for me so far.

We shall see if I play again what happens once I am out of the lower levels.

actually, team mates in your zone do show up on the larger map.

and no...you can't click on team mates...this game doesn''t have that type of targeting system.  Want to shoot something, you point at it.  Want to heal something...again...you point at it or use an AoE heal.

The team mates show up?  Hmm, I must have missed that single pixel of bright blue against the tan background of the map.  (OK, I huge a huge monitor and some of this game seems to designed for kids sitting with their noses pressed against the display... )  I will look for those little blue pixels again next time I play.

As for the support characters designed for "teaming" ... {Cough}  Spamming AoE heals or buffs defeats the purpose of having a T-E-A-M.

This game has potential, but it swerved a little to close to the FPS-crap.  Running over clips of ammo?? I thought we had all outgrown those childish games?  This game is a persistant DOOM game - Which is exactly what the designers knew how to do, but DOOM was 10-years ago and one should have expected something more out of modern games made in the 21st Century.

MMORPGs require excellent Chat Controls, Fantastic Teaming Options, Outstanding In-Team Support Choices...

City of Heroes missed the MMO Boat in a few areas, but it has exactly what Tabula Rasa completely missed when it comes to grouping for teams.

Well Ricky, you gave the game modern graphics, but you just rehashed old 1990's ideas and have prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you don't understand what a MMORPG is supposed to be.  nice try though.

I play on a flat screen 22 inch with the resolution at 1680x1050.

never had a problem seeing the blue dots that show where my team mates are on the map with those settings and at 30, y eyesight isn't nearly what it used to be 15 years ago.   Thanks for reminding me.

Because without "toons" like me, players who go beyond level 14 will get there asses handed to them in certain situations.

Kardash Atta Colony, a 3 man squad running the mission.

    1-26 level

    1-25 level

    1-22 level (me the medic)

As a group everything was going great, we stuck together, fought and made it through some tough points.  When I used a personal transport, I went back to a vendor to repair, and they decided to move on a little bit while they waited.  No sooner than their next battle they were down.  These guys were no dummies either, but without someone like me keeping them repaire and healed, they we down quciker than Pam Anderson on a.... well.

Point is there are points and reason behind a lot of things in this game, you just have to move further into it to see how it all molds together.

You may benefit from better team mates...  If you play on cassie? Send me a PM and we will see what can be done... We need a healer for our hunts and I am notoriously picky about who I team with. Might be worth a go.

I understand your frustraion quite well, believe me.

Ohhhh... I almost forgot... Happy solstice! *grins*

I play these games to group up (there are way better SP games out there IMO). I'm sure there are games that give certain benefits for grouping, as far i know TR doesn't have reall benefits for grouping other then having fun in a squad or duo.

Am I wrong, as I am only 18 atm? So NO you're not wrong, but like i said it depence what you expect from grouping.

I grouped for a few instances, but even then it was a bunch people soloing near each other, rather than grouping...Just a case of not the right group, it's in ALL MMO's, sometimes a PUG is fun and really exciting with members of the group communicating with each other in chat, speaking tactics or warnings when some might already know or have seen the dangers ahead, sometimes you can get into a PUG and like you said feel like you still doing it solo. That is kinda the price we have to pay when playing largely solo, meaning if you want more involved groups i would suggest to get into a clan, PUGS always give you this 50/50 change of getting together with the right set of players.
